Dr. Robert's ocean oasis is just that...a wonderful place to leave your worries behind and get away from it all. I brought my family/friends of eight to Robert's beachfront pad and it was perfect for us. There was plenty of space in the big house and the adjoining apartment. The house has three separate bedrooms and a loft in the great room. The sheets and towels were clean and the house was in nice shape. Bear in mind that this is Baja and any slight imperfections, in my mind, are part of the character of the place. Robert is a gracious host/tour guide and a wealth of information regarding the area. He took our group to a small village in the local mountains and we were able to observe how the real locals live. It was one of many adventures that we had and something we would never have experienced without Robert's help. All in all we couldn't have been happier with our five day stay and we're already looking forward to coming back. As a side note to all you surfers, the house is ideally suited to the right point break that resides just a short stroll away. The best time to go for surf is between October and April. We got really lucky and had a good swell the entire five days!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We had such a great stay at Dr. Roberts Place. Very relaxing! The balcony on the apartment was a perfect place for us to watch the waves, eat dinner and enjoy the warm weather. Such a beautiful place and Robert was so accommodating. Thanks again! Hopefully we will be back soon.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
Owner response: The athleticism of this group deserves to be commented on. Both the mother and daughters enjoyed running back and forth to Cerritos Beach from the house. Sometimes more than once a day. You go girls!!!

When we arrived at the Villa we were shocked and disappointed. We were told how many private bedrooms there were...technically there was one as you had to go through a bedroom to get to another and only 1 bathroom for all the rooms. We rented a separate room that when I had to make my own bed the mattress was so filthy I could not sleep as well as sewer was backing up in the shower. One day we ran out of water for our entire house! We were not told ahead of time that due to a shortage of water the hot tub is not filled with water and after seeing it I doubt it works anyway. We came for a wedding and were disappointed as what we were told and what we showed up to was two different things. Sheets with stains as well as towels. A pool table that had tears in it and in general the house is not what was portrayed. Additional family were staying at the Villa next door which was in fact extremely nice! What a disappointment.Owner response: I agree it was a mess.... when the reviewers arrived....24 hours later than the rest of their guests! During that time someone entered their room removed the expensive, not at all designed for beach use bed cover, took it down to the beach and got it wet and sandy. Someone else was sleeping in their room right up to the time they arrived and we had no opportunity to reclean it. I offered them a free upgrade to the apartment which they declined. The maids had left so I got down on my hands and knees and cleaned it up. Our town water system was having a pump problem so I didn't fill the hot tub prior to their arrival. Then their continual use of the laundry room to wash bathing suits usually hung on the clothesline and unprescented level of towel consumption (we have over 30 nice ones) caused us to run out of water completely on Sunday morning for three hours before i could bring in a water truck. It's the Baja folks, sometimes we have to be flexible. Septic tank was pumped within hours of their complaint. The rip in the pool table still exists but my girlfriend is flying down and bringing a new one. How our four bedroom house turned into a one bedroom house I have no idea. We are not a major Cabo hotel nor do we strive to be one.

We had such a wonderful time at Dr. Roberts. The pictures really don't capture how amazing it is... I literally watched whales jumping from the kitchen make dinner each night. Dr. Robert and Max are fantastic hosts and the property has everything you could want. It extremely family friendly. Our three year old LOVED the trampoline, and although the surf break is very large, the beach is scene is perfectly safe for little people to enjoy fun in the sun. We have stayed at VRBO's on four continents and Dr. Roberts place is as good as it gets. We will certainly be returning and with lots of friends!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Once again, our guests are just so amazing. Eric mentioned to us around the campfire that he had climbed Mt Everest last year using a difficult route. What??? As tho there was an easy one! These people represent a new trend with us: families with infants who come for several weeks or even a month. What a wonderful thing it is to see families with young kids coming, especially from Europe, for long stays supported by their countries and employers.

I had been planning my 50th birthday party for a year. i wanted it to be special and magical and invited 14 friends and family members to join me at Roberts Place. it was everything i could have hoped for. Not only because of the perfect location but because Robert set us up with amazing fruit platters each morning and an incredible caterer, and told us about all the perfect places to visit. Without the local info it wouldnt have been so incredible. Thanks Robert!!! We will we back! chris and gangRecommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: The way this group, spanning three generations of ladies, used our facilities was so commendable it deserves to be commented on. They had me move a giant shamanic drum out by the fire pit to help celebrate a birthday party. Then four twelve year old girls circled the drum beating in synchrony and singing an African tribal chant beseeching neighboring villages to come join them. As the visit progressed they sang songs in English, Spanish, Sanskrit and performed an Lakota Indian ceremony of great beauty and power. All this along with traditional birthday cards, gifts and balloons. On the last day, the group organizer, Chris, told me that her mother had just last year won a Grammy for producing the original recording of that very Lakota Heart Chant which she taught us around the fire.

Location- amazing. beach front. sunsets from the hot tub or the breakfast area. ocean views from 2 of the suites, pool room, kitchen and others. secluded, private, and at the same time, easy drive to todos santos or local shops in pescadero. Accommodation- perfect for a large group. Enough room and bathrooms to accommodate multiple combinations of people. Did I mention amazing? Clean sheets, comfy beds, nice bathrooms, plenty of towels etc. Robert is great. Always contactable for info/advice/suggestions. Never imposing. Couldn't have asked for anything more. Can't recommend this place highly enough. 18 of us had a 6day holiday we will never forget, and this is a group who combined have travelled most of the world. Get out of Cabo, come to Robert's place instead. Thanks Robert!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: I am rarely at a loss for words and describing this group is no exception. It consisted of two Australian honeymooners, who brought sixteen of their best friends along with them! The Aussie love of outdoor adventure was to be expected but the enthusiasm and can do attitude with which this group approached everything was hilarious. The first day they brought up a sick pelican which sent my visiting 25 yr old daughter Tallulah scrambling for the animal rescue lady. By the time she returned my guests had found the axe and were looking for a shovel. It turns out seven members of the group were veterinarians and knew exactly what needed to be done. My daughter and I shared several other adventures with our guests and by the time they left I'd like to say I made several new friends, but what actually happened is I lost my daughter! They all found cheap tickets to fly from Cabo to Cancun and on down to Tulum to go cave diving. My daughter went with them and I haven't heard from her since. So it goes. Thanks Kim and to all of you for the fun we had. Sharing the adventures that surround us living here in the Baja is really what it is all about.

Nine of us spent a glorious 8 days in Robert's home for my daughter's 50th birthday celebration. Everyone was totally comfortable in the home - those who wanted more privacy, had alternatives to the main house. The home is filled with charming rusticity - very comfy furniture and every convenience. Don't worry if you track in a little sand! There was bottled water in the kitchen and baths, so everyone stayed healthy and happy. The kitchen is large, so we often had three cooks working away. We grilled several nights on Robert's gigantic barbecue grill. We ate under the stars on the patio overlooking the ocean. There are views of the ocean from so many rooms - I slept beside a window that gave me a star-studded night view plus the ocean. The pounding of the surf is the best sleep inducer! All this made it possible within 24 hours to forget the trials and concerns of our reality left back home! Robert is the best of all possible hosts - there when you need local knowledge or assistance, and invisible when you want to do your own thing. The beach rarely had more than 8-10 people on it - and the water was WARM!! Half the clothes packed stayed in the suitcase, as the uniform of the day was a bathing suite and pareo (Mexican sarong). Robert introduced us to Baja Beans - the best coffee! The town of Todos Santos is charming and the bar across from Hotel California makes the best mojitos you have ever tasted! The beach house is about 10-15 minutes from the town - 'way off the highway via winding dirt roads. When you pass Einstein, the burro, you'll know you're almost there! There are really no words to describe the "other-worldly" feeling one gets after a couple of days at Robert's. For the first time, you will find yourself thinking seriously about chucking it all back home and becoming a Pescadero Beach gringo/gringa! We could hardly bear to leave - and we will be back! This must be the best of Baja California - may it never change!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

If you're looking for a great getaway OFF the beaten path, look no further. First off, the location is just superb. This property is directly in front of the beach. If you surf, you are located with a 5 minute walk to some great surfing. Whale watching is spectacular, almost unbelievable. During our stay whales were breaching all the time. Robert has kayaks that you can take out into the ocean. The sunsets are extraordinary. Robert's place is very comfortable. His kitchen is fully stocked with all appliances and everything you will need to make all your meals. The main living area is spacious with a nice pool table and large peninsula with bar stools. The outside patio is also large and houses a fabulous trampoline. The kids love it (and the adults, too!). Robert has space for lots of people and families. He most recently added a room that we called "the kids dorm" and enough space to sleep about 10 kids. If you're wondering what's nearby: You can walk down the beach 10 minutes and take in morning Yoga at Rancho Pescadero (a chic spa resort), you can walk 5 minutes to have the most divine massage of a lifetime and enjoy the sweat lodge onsite (if you like), you can drive 10 minutes and have some of the best Napoli pizza I've ever tasted, you can drive 10 minutes to a lovely, almost deserted beach that has a stream running into it and gorgeous caves within the hills, or you can drive 20 minutes into Todos Santos for a taste of a quaint, local town. You'll find some good restaurants and lots of tourist shops. That said, my favorite moments were hanging out on the patio, watching the whales breach during sunset. Robert is a very generous host with his time. He'll tell you local stories, history, politics, etc. Or if you just want your own space, he gets that, too. Robert provided us with insights into all the best things to see/do that are mentioned above. He definitely was a part of our great experience, he even met the 1st arrival in our group to go grocery shopping in Cabo before heading to Pescadero!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Great time. Weather was a little cool. Accomodations were great, very comfortable. We stayed in the studio. Robert was very helpful with directions, activity ideas, and supplies. He even lent us his wetsuit when the others were being used. The trampoline was fun, too. Next time I'd rent a surfboard if the weather is warmer and we had more time. I'd also bring a flashlight for reading in bed, and stay at the house more! We drove to town almost every day. It was very relaxing to walk on the beach. Property was clean. I'd recommend this property. The Saturday market in Todo Santos was fun. Felippes restaurant was good and we found exceptional coffee at Baja Bean operated by gringos. Driving in Cabo can be scary and confusing, so take your time and do not rush.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This was a great place to stay on the oceanfront. You rarely see another person on the beach. There's a full kitchen, a pool table, a trampoline, comfortable beds, hot tub, bonfire set up, pretty landscaping and decor, kayaks, surfing, and hosts that will do anything to make you feel at home. It's a beautiful spot and I would recommend it to anyone of any age because there's a huge variety of things to do around. We were a group of about 10 college students and really felt like we were living a luxurious life at Robert's Place! It was the best spring break any of us have ever had.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car.

About the owner: Robert Winquist has had extensive experience both as an educator and entrepreneur. He has a PhD in Higher Education from the University of Iowa and was a University Professor, Vice President and administrator for many years. From 1993-2007 he served as the President and CEO of Vending Supply Inc., a Nevada corporation that designed and printed and distributed one billion machine vended children's stickers and temporary tattoos. Robert is a Minister of the Universal Life church, who performs weddings on the beach. He has four beautiful sons and daughters and is an avid fisherman. Robert owns a ranch in the Sierra Laguna mountains, east of Pescadero, and enjoys taking guests on tours of the area.
Why the Owner Chose Todos Santos:
Growing up in a family that loved camping on the Baja, I always knew I wanted to retire here. Somewhere that was easy to get to, natural and pristine. I drove the entire peninsula many times looking for the perfect spot. Whenever I drove through Pescadero I couldn't stop smiling because it felt so right. I honestly believe this is one of those powerful spots on the planet that attracts good energy. Robert's Place is a gathering spot for friends and family that we are happy to share with others.
The Unique Benefits at this Estate:
Surprisingly, one of the daily benefits I enjoy is driving the single lane dirt farm road that leads 1 mile out to the highway. The experience of slowing way down to enjoy the lushness of the crops and the pace at which they grow is its own reward. The standard of courtesy and kindness exchanged between very different types of people as we pull over to make room for each other is a genuine old Mexico experience.
Another hidden benefit which reveals the relaxing approach to living here is Whale Watching - Pescadero Style. You can sit for hours watching whales breach and spout as they swim past in front of the house. On a calm day it is possible to kayak out and sit quietly as a pod of whales passes within a hundred feet of you. Sometimes they linger for days outside of the breaking waves near shore. If you are the adventurous type, borrow a mask and fins and swim out! Welcome to Whale Watching - Pescadero Style!
Vacationing here is like living in a nature sanctuary. Egrets feed in the tide pools. Fishermen cast from shore for Spanish Mackerel and Rooster fish at dawn. And bonfires on the beach are a tradition. This is the Baja I knew as a child.
