My home is in Baton Rouge, Louisiana but quickly fell in love with the Mentone/Lookout Mountain region. I never tire of the beauty or the people and I hope you fall in love too and want to return again and again as I do.
Why the Owner Chose Mentone
We have traveled to Lookout Mountain for many years and decided we wanted a vacation home in this unspoiled area. It is so convenient to many other destinations and we often have intentions of using Hawk's Nest Hideaway as the headquarter for further adventures, but we end up falling in love with what the area has to offer in views and outings so we stay and never venture any further than a days drive away. Any time of year, any season we have never been disappointed.
The Unique Benefits of this House
This area is unique in that there is a little known fact that Little River Canyon is the deepest river canyon besides the Grand Canyon the USA and the river flows entirely on the top of the mountain. This area is so pristine, clean, uncluttered and unique. You will truly fall in love and want to return many many times. I welcome you and your family to my home.

We loved our stay at the Hawk's Nest. It was a fantastic hideaway, off the beaten path, but still close enough to enjoy all that Mentone has to offer. We have been going to Mentone for many years and this place was one of the best we've stayed in. The furnishings were comfortable and the hot tub was fantastic too! I know we'll be back for another visit soon.

We loved loved loved our Hawk's Nest experience. The only problem we encountered was that we did not have enough time to do everything we wanted. We hiked in a different location everyday and still did not get to Look Out Mountain. There were so many things to do in the area. The town of Mentone is a delightful place. Everyone was so friendly. On Friday night there was a bonfire with local musicians performing at the caution light where it seemed the whole town showed up. I got one of the best massages I have every had from Kerri B. who lives right off the brow (new word to learn when you are from south Louisiana). But probably my favorite thing to do there was to sit on the deck at the Hawk's Nest. If I had not seen the other homes coming down the drive to your place, I would have sworn we were in the woods. The place is nestled between two small patches of woodlands. The pictures on the website do not do it justice. The property and the residence are beautifully maintained. It is truly a place to heal mind and soul and we are very much looking forward to a trip back in the near future. Thank you Gary and Michele for creating and sharing your hideaway.

My wife and I were looking for a place to go to get away for a couple of nights (15 Years of marriage, 2 kids...LOL)... At any rate, I was a little hesitant, as there aren't really any good pictures of the Cabin and Property. You know, I hesitated to write this review, because HONESTLY? We love it SO MUCH, that I kind of selfishly want to keep it a "Little Known" Secret!!! From the GREAT Modern furnishings to the wonderful Secluded Area with NO NEIGHBORS in sight. We spent one afternoon hiking through the Creek behind the Property, and spent the rest of the Evening sitting on the Bench by the creek, sharing a bottle of wine! As the Owner of an Online Internet business, I was a little hesitant, as there is no Wi-Fi/Internet, and no Cell Signal with AT&T (unless you go out in the Driveway,) but in Hindsight, this FORCED US to spend time with each other and melt away, disregarding the rest of the world. Plenty of Free Wi-fi back up in town, and we checked our email and message once a day with ease. ABSOLUTELY our favorite Cabin in 15 years of exploring the nooks and crannies of North Alabama. No, it didn't have the Rustic "Cabin" Feel of a Log Cabin, but once you've done that a couple of times, it loses it's "Charm." I mean, even the SHEETS were high thread count (Egyptian Cotton??) on the Master Bed! The owner uses a local Rental Agency which allows you to book online and pay via Credit Card. But, I had a few questions beforehand... The Owner spent over 20 Minutes on the phone with me, answering every single question that I had, and could not have been MORE kind and gracious. Even if we HAD have taken our kids, there would have been PLENTY for them to do. TONS of woods surrounding the Cabin, the Hot Tub on the Deck (Screened in!), and the Creek out back. Not to mention the Pond across the street, which is absolutely wonderful! Looking for a Hidden Secret GETAWAY? This is it! (Just please don't tell everyone, as we plan on going back in a few weeks, and want there to be Vacancy!...LOL)
Recommended for:Girls getaway, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, age 55+.

I was looking for a quiet, restful place to escape for a long weekend and this property was perfect. The pictures do not do justice to the well-appointed interior of this hideaway. The cabin was exactly as described. It was very clean and pristine with tasteful decor. Located on a dirt and gravel road, it was rare to hear a vehicle pass by. The trees were not at the peak of fall color but there was enough yellow and red to provide an autumn experience. The cabin is surrounded by trees and a lovely little stream so no matter what time of year you might visit I think you would be pleased. I enjoyed sitting on the bench near the creek and one evening at dusk I saw a gorgeous crane in the pond. There was a fire circle with wood provided that I did not use, but I very much enjoyed the gas grill and having breakfast and dinner at the table on the deck. Everything I needed to cook was available and I enjoyed making many of my meals there. This property is a good home base for visting the nearby state parks as well as shopping like Scottsboro's Unclaimed Luggage store or the Collinsville Trade Days--whatever your interest you are not far from a source of entertainment, but you are also secluded and away from it all at the cabin. The dish network and DVD system make it easy to enjoy music, movies, etc.The beds and the sofa were very comfortable and there was great water pressure in the bathrooms. If I ever am looking for a place to visit in this area again, I hope this property is available. The owner answered all of my many questions prior to my stay quickly and accurately. I would definitely recommend this property to my friends.
