Five minute walk to beach, golf and Sconset Village. At the end of its own private shell lane, our spacious, elegant house sleeps 6-8 in three bedrooms and a Sun Room, all of which have their own bathroom with tub or shower. The House has wide-plank antique pine floors, a large open-plan dining room and fully-equipped kitchen with black honed-granite counters. The living room is large and sunny with a working fireplace. The Sun Room has a 32 inch flat screen HDTV, working fireplace and daybed with trundle. The windows have beautiful, unobstructed sunset views over the moors and distant ocean. The house, porch, brick patio and large lawns offer ample space for entertaining or for kids to play. Amenities include: central AC, broadband, wireless network, cable TV, 280 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets, gas grill, outdoor furniture (including umbrella), beach towels, surf-casting rod, covered porch and brick patio. Available weekly from May through December.

Nantucket boasts a whaling museum, marina, antique stores, art galleries, designer clothing and gourmet restaurants. The island has miles of publicly accessible sand beaches and warm surf. It also has a large harbor for sailing. There are two public golf courses, tennis clubs, and a stable. The fishing is wonderful (call for details).

We are in Sconset, a true getaway that has changed little since whaling captains vacationed here in the 1800s. It is still a village of rose-covered shingle cottages on a bluff by the sea. It is small, safe and a wonderful place to walk and bike, especially for kids. There is a surf beach (which the harbor seals visit), a sandwich shop, and several excellent restaurants with bars where friends gather on the weekend. The village has three golf courses, including a public, nine-hole course that welcomes kids and is just across the road from our house.

Please join us for a morning walk to the village for a cup of coffee and a muffin.

Garden Visitors: We have regular visitors to our garden. There are many rabbits, who enjoy snacking on the lawn. A very large large ring tailed hawk that likes to sit in a nearby tree, and a family of deer come by for morning coffee and a few mouthfuls of hydrangeas. Last spring, the two fawns were still waist high and had their spots. They munched happily on the flowers while we watched from the sun room.

May and June in Nantucket: The weather warms up in May and especially in June. Until late May, you are welcome to play golf at Sankaty, a truly beautiful private course running through the moors, up to the ocean's edge, and past Sankaty lighthouse. Miacomet Golf Club is also open to all comers (and stays that way through the season).

Fishing in May and June can be spectacular. Stripers of all sizes come right into the harbor, where they can be caught from kayaks, the shore on Coatue, or the Jetties. They also roam the surf-side of the island and Great Point (four wheel drive required). Blues arrive in late May or early June and can be caught from the beach or boats around the entire island. The tackle shops are glad to give advice on where to fish and supply guides as well. I am also glad to consult on the local fishing (much more useful than my golf tips).

Town and Sconset are still tranquil and the shops are welcoming as they warm up for the season. Restaurants are almost all open and uncrowded.

September and October in Nantucket: September and October are the most beautiful months in Nantucket. The weather is usually crystal clear and warm. The beaches are empty, but the restaurants are open and the surf is warm.

It is perfect weather for golf, fishing, running, walking the moors, or sitting on the beach with a book. In September, the 9-hole public course across the street is still open and greens fees are under $50. On October 12th, the beautiful private 18 golf course at Sankaty opens to the public.

Through mid-October Nantucket hosts some of the best sport fishing in the world. Stripers, Blues, False Albacore, and Spanish Mackerel are all available from the beach--especially if you have four wheel drive. Offshore, yellow and blue-fin tuna roam the waters and are chased by local charter boats.

Best of all, our rent is a fraction of peak season rates!

Golf: There is nine-hole public course about a mile from the house--very inexpensive, no tee times required, beginners welcome, and the wait isn't too bad. There is a very good 18 hole public course in Miacomet, about a fifteen minute drive away.

Sankaty, a private club, is open to the public in April and May and again in October. It is well worth the trip.

Fishing: Nantucket is home to one of the great sport fisheries in the US. Bluefish, striped bass, false albacore, bonito and Spanish mackerel can all be caught from the beach, especially if you have (or rent) four wheel drive to reach some of the more beautiful spots, including Great Point, Coskata Bay, and Eel Point.

May--Striped Bass arrive for summer. June: the bluefish arrive and stay for summer. July: bonito make an appearance--but are more reliable in August. August--everything is possible, including small yellowfin and bluefin tuna in the rips near shore. Late in August, the false albacore arrive and stay through Columbus day.

From Labor Day through Columbus Day the fishing can be spectacular as the fish gear up for their migration south. 20 lb bluefish, 40 lb stripers, and big albies mix it up in feeding frenzies, sometimes only a few feet offshore (especially at Great Point). This usually happens a few days before I arrive (call ahead for my schedule).

Map & Owner's Profile

A
Public Golf

This public 9 hole course is a great place for kids to play and fun for quick round for grown-ups, too. Last I knew it was only $25 to play, no tee time needed. Waits are seldom long.

B
Fishing spot

Only accessible with four wheel drive, this is good place to find blues and stripers, especially when Great Point is closed.

C
Polpis Harbor

This is a beautiful place to launch a kayak, bring small kids for swim, or watch the sun set. There is sand boat ramp if you have a small boat. They also teach sailing to kids here in the summer.

Great House!

Guest: luvnantucket (Fairfield, CT United States)
Date of Stay: 09/01/08 Review Submitted: 02/14/09

We have stayed in this home 3 times with our young son. It is exactly as pictured in the photos. A lovely home, spacious, well furnished, and quiet. The location is convenient to everything and it is very nice to have the village of 'sconset down the street to pick up some wine, ice cream, whatever. We think the 'sconset beach is one of he best and has typically been fairly quiet when we have been there (slightly off season). We would highly recommend this house.

Owner response:It is a safe spot for kids--with a large yard, well away from the street. Easy for older kids to be independent and ride their bikes into Sconset for an ice cream. Only a ten minute walk to the Sconset beach.

Great House!! Great Location!!

This is a perfect 10. Great house, great front porch, great yard, great kitchen. It is a perfect place for entertaining and family to gather. Bathrooms off each bedroom is a real plus - not to mention the central air. Everyone thinks you don't need it on the island - but we truly enjoyed it. Lots of thought put into the architecture and decore. Definitely stay here again if available.

Owner response:Thank you for the glowing review--I am delighted your family had such a good time.

Lovely Getaway

Guest: Faith M. (Rutland, MA)
Date of Stay: 05/13/11 Review Submitted: 07/05/11

My husband and I were blessed enough to spend an entire week in this lovely home to celebrate our 20th anniversary. We did bring the kids and the in-laws with us for the weekend, since we were feeling kind, but sent them back inland on Monday. The week we spent on Nantucket was very wet which made us appreciate the beauty of this lovely beach home even more. We spent long afternoons sprawled on the window seat reading, walking the shell strewn driveway and cooking in the all amenities included kitchen. My husband, being a closet gourment, was in his glory with the spaciousness of the kitchen as well as having every tool he needed at his fingertips. Me, like a cat, I was curled in the window seat watching the wet world before me and listening to the sounds of small island life passing by. I STRONGLY recommend Eat, Pray, Love as the perfect book for this space. The master bathroom was a hit with all of us. My third son, Ian, told us after his first shower in the master bath, "that's like a miracle of modern proportions! The spray was constant, the water warm and the space inviting. I would come here again simply to take a shower!" Admittedly, the boy wants to be a writer when he grows up, but he was nonetheless sincere in his critique of the shower. The fact that our hot water was out at home the previous week certainly added to his excitement. The house is spacious, immaculate and chock full of everything a family of eight (in-laws included) or a happy couple of two could possibly want or need. The walks on the beach were terrific for the soul, rain included. My very romantic husband of 20 years even took time to etch a heart and our names in sand the morning of our anniversary; not something he would think to do in the hustle and bustle of life with four children and many critters. Rob and his family are amazing to deal with; quick to respond to both email and phone calls. We easily found a grocery store chock full of all of the fixins for both large family meals and intimate couples dinners. I highly recommend that you seek out a week in this house. Your soul and your mind will thank you for it! Oh, and don't forget to eat a homemade donut from the awesome breakfast place in the cul-de-sac nearby!

Daffodil Fun

Guest: Codys Family (Waterville Valley, New Hampshire)
Date of Stay: 04/21/10 Review Submitted: 05/13/10

We came for a long weekend during Daffodil Week and had an absolutely fabulous time. This home is as beautiful as the pictures-tastefully decorated and very well maintained. The open layout was perfect for us at the end of a long day of sightseeing and allowed our two teens to have their own rooms. Everything you need is here and very easy to find. We ate out every night, but the kitchen/dining area is well-equipped with everything you need to put out a feast. Sitting on the front porch in the adirondack chairs and enjoying a glass of wine was a great way to end the day. We had not been to Nantucket before, so didn't really know where things were. We certainly lucked out with picking this home in Sconset. Definitely our favorite part of the island. Though the stores and restaurants in this small village were still closed for the season, we didn't mind the drive into town for meals. When these spots are open, you have several wonderful dining options very near by. The Sankatay golf course was incredible. My husband is spoiled for life. If you are here in the off-season, you are allowed to play on this private course- a must for any serious golfer. Beaches were close, bike paths are close-this is an ideal spot. Visiting the winery/vineyard on the island was great fun and definitely consider a drive out on the beach past Wauwinet if you have a four wheel drive jeep. We'd absolutely select this home again in a minute and highly recommend to anyone.

Wedding Reception in Sconset

Guest: Amy L. (-)
Date of Stay: 09/25/09 Review Submitted: 01/02/10

I hope you're doing well and enjoying the Holiday craziness. My parents said they spoke with you a few days after our wedding in September before they left the island. As I'm sure they expressed to you, they - as are we - are so appreciative of everything you did for us. Our day was absolutely perfect. So you don't just take my word for it, I wanted to send this along to you as well - our wedding video - since it really captures what a beautiful day it was and what an amazing location your home made for our reception. It really was everything we had hoped for.

This home is perfect!

Guest: Lesley S. (Newton, ma)
Date of Stay: 06/07/08 Review Submitted: 04/29/09

We visited this house with our daughter and her friend ( 8 years old). We all loved the house and our vacation there. We had never stayed in Sconset before and we really liked it. This is a very private location, beautifully manicured grounds. Everything is brand new and pristine. The kids loved finding large closets which they used as a club house. There are nooks to hide out or to just grab a book and read. Easy to ride bike to beach. We mostly drove to the beach. I would highly recommend this house to any one looking for a very high end and immaculate rental. If there is any negative, the house/furnishings are too nice. We have tried to rebook several times and our dates were already booked. Looks like the photos.
