Bruce and his family loved it!
Jamie,
My wife and I were talking again today about our wonderful stay at your home in Vineyard Haven last August. The home is unique, truly the perfect place to stay while visiting Martha's Vineyard. We so enjoyed being within walking distance of downtown and Owen Park Beach that became our favorite beach on the island -- and we visited lots of them. Our now 2 year old granddaughter Lilah still talks about the visit and always points out the toys that we bought there and wants to see slide shows and movies of our visit, pointing our your son Nathaniel every time. The Perception Sailing Trip was also a highlight of our visit, a ride no one should miss if they have the opportunity.
If we ever decide to stay on the Vineyard again, I'm sure your home will be at the top of our list of places to stay.
Bruce from summer 2008
What Lisa Says:
Hello Jamie:
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your home and absolutely loved the roof and watching the stars! The design of the home is fun, different and there was lots of sleeping space for everyone.
We have rented on the island for about 12 years now and it was nice to stay in an untraditional home; I loved the feeling of being in a boat! Walking to town and the beach in five minutes was great too.
We aren't sure of plans yet for next summer but will be in touch.
Thanks!
Lisa from summer 2008
Design Notes from the Architect:
I designed and built this home for my family and it is exceptional in every way. It gives young people a chance to experience a thoughful residence that is so much fun that they do not want to leave and they never forget it. As a student of Louis Kahn at the University of Pennsylvania (subject of the movie 'My Architect'), I learned about the power of architecture to enhance a sense of wonder through the creating places of well-being and this home is one of the most exceptional homes on the Island of Martha's Vineyard. It is not one of the largest, and it is not gold plated or McMansion in any way, but it is a place of joy and wonder that allows many people to have a quality time with variety and privacy and joy.

Thank you so much for letting us come and stay and enjoy your wonderful house! It was such a treat to get out of the urban jungle heat and relax in such a peaceful home. The Vineyard is such a special place to get to spend a week especially in such a convenient and fascinating place.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1986
About the owner: I am One of The Vineyard's insightful Architects, I studied with Louis I. Kahn, subject of the movie, My Architect. Kahn was one of the greats of 20th century architecture and I was in his Master's Class and recieved many awards, grants and medals suring my time at the University of Pennsylvania School of Architecture. I live with my family in this home in the wintertime and spend the summers when the house is rented living in the harbor on 'Perception', a 50 foot gaff rigged Herressoff Schooner. I row to work in my office adjacent to the Black Dog Tavern.
Why the Owner Chose Vineyard Haven:
Because it is unique, fascinating, loved by all, especially children who learn from its architecture; because it is quiet, but in town with an easy walk to the beach and a cup of coffe, the library and the playground, the harbor and the ferry.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Being part of the year round community of Vineyard Haven gives you a unique ability to participate in a wonderful way with the Island. You can walk on tree shaded village sidewalks everywhere from beach to an icecream cone or a cup of coffee or the library to an old fashioned movie theatre with one screen and popcorn. A playground is a few hundred feet away. The home is secluded with fields around the yard in back but just open the front gate in the picket fence, go down the steps and walk down to mainstreet and Owne Park Beach. There are buses nearby that go everywhere on the island and you have the option of just wandering in a magnificent New England town.Owner Speaks: English, French, Portuguese
