We spent 12 wonderful nights here. This was our. Third year staying in this property and we're already looking forward to coming back next year. The main living area is extremely well thought out for a group of friends with lots of lounge space and easy to use kitchen. The pool is great . The ocean in front of the house is easy to swim in with no undertow worries. The walk to the local enramadas for a perfect margarita takes 7 minutes. The caretakers, Annie and Ernesto, are lovely people and their children are a delight. Annie is a wonderful cook....and will make you great mole if you give her $$ for groceries and her time. Ernesto can help arrange fishing or just a boat ride to Los Morros. ( the rocks you see in the distance) This would be a great holiday spot for people with teens or children ...read, walk swim play in the sand, take a trip or two to Zihuatanejo, visit the lagoon, take a cooking class, do an activity in the village at the Children's Library...the list of things to do here is endless...thanks to the owners who are always easy to deal with and keep the place in top condition.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you Joann the the great review...I wish Pat and I could spend more time there..We are so pleased for your family....I not sure what it is, but there is something special about that home.....Hope we here from you .... Thanks Bob & Pat Grandinetti.....

If you're looking to disconnect and find peace and quiet, this is the place for you! We had a family vacation, grandparents and kids and were all truly taken with this wonderful house by the beach. The photos don't do it justice, every detail has been thought of, there are views from every room, whether you're taking a shower or cooking a paella. If you like bird watching, fishing, horse riding, swimming, or just watching and resting, Casa Cabaña is the place to do it from. The kids spent their days in the pool, on the beach or playing games around the lush property. Ernesto and Annie, the caretakers, were discreet but available if we wanted more help. Locals were friendly and welcoming, fish and coconuts would appear with a big smile from a neighbour. Pat was helpful in every respect, from additional information regarding out trip to payment. We will definitely be going back soon!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.

We appreciated the great communication from Pat when making plans for our trip, and exploring the area with Ernesto. This was our third trip to the area and our best trip yet. We really enjoyed getting away from everything and the property here is beautiful and comfortable. We lived outside except for sleeping at night, and since we cooked a lot we enjoyed the beautiful view and watching the kids play in the pool or on the beach while we were in the kitchen! We saw lots of wildlife, some along Playa Blanca, and some at the Refugio de Potosi. On our last evening we watched dolphins just off the shore for over an hour, and we rode horses on the beach at sunset another evening, which the kids loved. Suggestions: brush up on your conversational Spanish before arriving, it will make everything easier and more fun when you can communicate with the lovely local people here! Also the time of year we were here (late October/early November) there were a lot more biting insects (no see-ums) than on our previous trips, which did not ruin anything for us but the bites are very itchy and have lasted for several days. We tried insect repellant but it didn't seem to do much, so if you're concerned about this you may want to avoid being outdoors early mornings and early evenings when they seem to be worse and stay near the fans to keep them away. The weather here is magnificent and the beauty of the area can't even be captured in photos. We loved taking long walks on the beach, swimming and bodysurfing in the ocean, and listening to the waves for endless hours. We will definitely be back!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.

My wife, brother and his wife and another couple had the best vacation ever this year on the property. The beach was wonderful with the short walk to the fishing village with good food and friendly people is hard to beat. It is only a short drive to town with all the shopping a girl could want and plenty of night life for the night owls. Staying away from the tourist traps and only going when you want is fantastic. I have traveled all around the world and would consider this a top notch stay. Hard to beat for the price. We will be back.Recommended for: People with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.

We highly recommend this vacation home. The accomodations are first class and absolutely beautiful. You feel very spoiled staying in this luxury home right on the beach. The beach is very long and secluded. The pool and living area are so inviting, you never want to leave. Annie and Ernesto are so wonderfully accomodating - they make your stay very personal and feel well cared for. Walking down to the outdoor restaurants is a very colorful local experience with delicious food for great prices. All in all, this is a definite favorite vacation site. Well worth it!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.

The perfect place to kick back, unwind and enjoy the scenery with your favorite someone and a cool drink. The house and grounds are beautiful.(The photos are not touched up, it's actually that beautiful!). So much so that passersby ask if it is a hotel. The layout allows privacy for each of the bedrooms and a "great room" for all to get together for good times. The caretakers, Ernesto and Annie, are there to help in any way, all you need do is ask. They see to the details and your comfort. If you are looking to relax, walk the beach, fish, eat, this is the place! A drive into town is not too far and brings more sights, beaches and restaurants. And once you've unwound and come home, you just can't wait to do it again. Paradise!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, age 55+.

We stayed here last May for my birthday and it was wonderful! The pictures don't do it justice! Ernesto and Annie were so great, and Annie's cooking was amazing! The rooms were so comfortable and everything was clean. The pool was perfect and we loved the outdoor living area. Also the full kitchen was great, I am sure we saved a lot of money by doing some of our cooking ourselves. We will definitely be back and recommend this spot to anyone!Recommended for: People with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.

As we arrived at the airport in Zihuatanejo and found Ernesto waiting to drive us to the estate, I could not have imagined how attached I would become to the place and the people here. Our best vacation ever was about to begin. When we pulled up to the house, we found the most pristine gardens with hedges of hemerocallis and flowering and fruit trees. We made our way to our rooms and with three couples in our group, found that everyone had room to spare. There is a feeling of privacy that exceeded a home since each guest room is separate and each bathroom private. We stayed in a downstairs room that had two queen beds and found the sitting area and bath more than ample. The outdoor shower is amazing and I applaud the architect! I felt as if I were showering in a jungle waterfall - very romantic. The views from our room and our bed were breathtaking with waves and surf, the infinity pool and gardens at our disposal. We ate all of our meals outdoors and took many naps in the hammock and poolside in the lounge chairs. This vacation destination feels as if there is not another tourist in sight and is far removed from the costs and pressures of the tourist venues. Ernesto drove us into Ixtapa for a birthday dinner one night and took us shopping whenever we requested it, but I must admit, I was fine just staying put. My husband and I were privileged to work in the travel industry for eighteen years and stay in five star resorts in Mexico, the U.S. and Hawaii. We were amazed at the amenities and comfort found at the Barra home with Ernesto and Annie catering to our every need. The pool, the beach, the waves, the gardens...I could go on and on. Everything exceeded our expectations and then some. Annie's cooking was superb and I so enjoyed waking to her coffee and fresh hot tortillas every morning. Ernesto taking us to the real outdoor market so that I could try out my own culinary skills was a real treat. We bought a different homemade chorizo each trip and tried three different mole sauces. My husband said that there is nothing like pouring your own drinks while gazing at the sunset across the pool. Although we had never been to Zihuatanejo before, we found this area of Mexico to be very safe, peaceful, and charming. We walked down the beach the last day for fish tacos on the beach and bought beautiful baskets and jewelry from the locals to take home. We will be back again and again.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.

My family and I stayed in this beautiful home the last week of May in 2010, and it was easily one of the most relaxing and beautiful vacations we have ever experienced! We traveled with my mother and father in law, my cousin and her husband, my husband and our 7 month old son, and there were more than enough accomodations for all of us! The views are beautiful, the weather was perfect, and the home was very unique compared to many others! Also, having the family located on site to assist in scenic plans, meals, directions, grocery shopping, etc was so helpful, and really made the experience that much easier! We would reccommend this specific home to anyone and hope to return again soon ourselves! Every morning we woke up to a clean living area and kitchen, fresh coffee, and even fresh breakfast rolls. Our rooms were cleaned daily, and we always had all of the supplies we needed- if not- Ernesto was more than willing to assist! It was great to have our own kitchen, but there were also many little beach restaurants within walking distance. The infinity pool was my favorite, but my husband enjoyed swimming in the ocean daily! If you are looking for a REAL get away- this is the home for you!!!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children, age 55+.

I have been down to this home now 3 times and I can't wait to go back. With the outdoor living area, the infinity pool, and just a few steps down to the sand it feels as if you're at your own private resort. A typical day for me at the home included cooking breakfast while watching the fish play in the waves, taking a nice long walk down the beach and then laying in one of the hammocks while reading a book. Next we would walk down to the enramadas and eat lunch - shrimp tacos and a blended margarita - or two :) was my favorite. If we didn’t have any activities planned for the day we usually just spent the day in the pool and bogie boarding in the ocean. Then if Annie (one of the caretakers) is given enough notice she would cook us an authentic Mexican feast. Eating in the outdoor dinning area watching the sunset was truly amazing! Others activities that I would recommend - 1. Fishing. We've been out two times and caught two Dorado and a sail fish! There's nothing like fresh fish tacos. 2. Troncones is just a short drive and a nice little surfing beach. 3. Zihuatenjo is also just a short drive and has lots of shopping and nice little restaurants and is very clean. 4. For a high end dinner visit the La Ropa Beach. 5. Ernesto can take you out in the bay for a nice relaxing snorkel trip. 6. Walking down to the village and eating a very basic, but wonderful dinner at Dona Annie’s. The description of this home is right on and the pictures accurately reflect the appearance and the amenities. Every morning the care takers were up bright and early cleaning and manicuring the landscaping. Again – it felt as if we we’re in our own private resort. The owners of this property we’re very pleasant to deal with and answered all the questions that we had. I would definitely recommend this Mexican Villa!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, families with young children, age 55+.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2007
About the owner: We have lived in Sacramento, California for 35 years where we have raised our children and built a successful family business. We are fortunate to have our four children working with us and plan to turn the business over to them in the future so we can spend more time in Barra. We enjoy travel, golf, cribbage and spending time with family and friends.
Why the Owner Chose Barra de Potosi:
After traveling to most of the tourist locations in Mexico we decided to give Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo a try. From the moment we stepped off the plane we fell in love with the area. On our first day we hired a driver and toured the entire day from Troncones to Barra de Potosi. We had finished our day enjoying fish tacos and a cold beer at one of the enramadas in Barra. As we were leaving at the end of the day, we noticed a For Sale sign on a beach front lot filled with coconut trees. We were so taken with the laid back and friendly village of Barra that by the end of the week we had purchased the lot, hired an architect and had a rough sketch our Mexican villa.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
Our villa is on a beautiful white sand beach perfect for walking in the sand or swimming in the ocean. It is remote enough for a relaxing vacation yet close enough to Zihuatanejo and all amenities of a larger town. Here you can volunteer your time at the Children’s Library or El Refugio de Potosi or simply enjoy the local culture and their way of life.
