Paris Arrondissement 4 apartment description

The March 2004 full renovation was updated in December 2013. This 'chambre d'hotel' apartment on the Rue des Tournelles is just a three minute walk from the Place des Vosges, one of the most beautiful 17th century squares in all of Europe. We refer to this 230 square feet ground floor studio apartment as 'le petit bijou' or the 'little jewel'.

The apartment was featured on the Parisian TV magazine show 'Paris Premiere' in April 2004. The local TV Company engaged a well-known Parisian designer and produced the making of a luxury 'pied a terre'. From the demolition of the old, to the haute design of the new, it is an encapsulated history of our Parisian dreams realized.

The renovation is a work of art and features a restored limestone wall, stone tile floors, a very accommodating bathroom, pastel striped painted walls, and the very hip 'kitchoo' cuisine with stove, refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher.

All the furnishings have been selected to accommodate your most comfortable visit to Paris. Everything here is comparable to a luxury hotel except at one/quarter of the cost. The 4 star Pavillon de la Reine Hotel three blocks away charges 500 euros/night for a 150 square foot room and it doesn't come with a kitchen.

The apartment, in a 19th century 'Regency' style building, sits along the quiet rue des Tournelles. In the 17th century, the Marais was home to the most aristocratic families of Paris and 400 years later, little has changed in the architectural feel of this old quarter.

The very narrow rue des Francs Bourgeoise is now filled with 'hip' boutiques, and 'trendy' restaurants and cafes share the buildings of the old Jewish Ghetto along rue des Rosiers, but some of the quieter street like rue des Tournelles look the same as they did over a hundred years ago.

It's a short walk to the Notre Dame or the Louvre, but the Marais is so intoxicating, you could easily spend a lot of your time just enjoying the Place des Vosges, Hotel Sully, Museé Picasso, Museé Carnavelet and carefree walks through the small winding streets.

Services included in the cost are phone calls anywhere in France and in the US, cable TV, English movie stations, free and unlimited wireless Internet, linens, towels. Our bilingual contact will be just a phone call away if you need any help during your stay.

In the apartment will also be our guide to the neighborhood, favorite restaurants, cafes, wine shops, bakeries, and markets.

We had a fantastic six in the petit bijou in the 4th arrondissement. The location was perfect for our first visit to Paris, especially for me as a first timer. The neighborhood was perfect to walk around and explore in. The metro was literally one block up as well as many cab stations. Joelle is very helpful and provided us with excellent suggestions for cafés, patisseries, and restaurants close to the apartment. The apartment is very clean and really cosy - it has all you need for a comfortable stay. Everything was just perfect, and we would definitely stay here again. Thank you Joelle for being such an excellent host!

We had a lovely four days in Joelle's delightful petit bijou in the 4th arrondissement. The location was perfect for our first visit to Paris. A great neighbourhood to stroll about and explore. The metro and buses are all close (5-8 minute walk). Joelle is very helpful and provided us with excellent directions from the airport (very easy on the RER and Metro) and good suggestions for cafés, patisseries, and restaurants close to the apartment. The apartment is very clean and really cosy - it has all you need for a comfortable stay. Even though the apartment is on the ground floor we found the area quiet at night and slept well in the very comfortable bed! Also, a very secure building. The selection of guide books and maps to Paris were an added bonus - very helpful. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you, Joelle!

Loved the neighborhood...the Place des Vosges was OUR park! Some street noise was a factor, but overall we loved our stay here.

My wife and I spent four truly enjoyable weeks at the Little Jewel in May and early June 2013. What a pleasant “home” to have in Paris! So convenient to everything … cafes, bakeries, grocery store, outdoor market, restaurants, the Place des Vosges, and the center of Paris (a 20 minute stroll past attractive shops and cafes.) The Metro and buses run nearby to take you anywhere in Paris, also. The apartment is located on a quiet street and is on the ground floor … a real plus for our weary legs after a full day of walking. Building security is excellent. The apartment is as shown in the photos and is well designed. We had everything we needed … comfortable bed, efficient kitchenette, modern bathroom, good water pressure, excellent wi-fi. We never felt crowded during the four-week stay. There is no end to the superlatives we have for Joelle and her assistant, Moon. Such personal attention and prompt responses to our questions! Joelle has every reason to be proud of her Little Jewel. We are eager to return. Thank you, Joelle!

This was our third stay at the cozy "Bijou" and we will be back again because we love everything about it! It's location is formidable! and to have Henri Salvador serenading us each morning as we indulged in our beloved tartines and croissants from the nearby bakery is pure bliss! We love Joelle the owner, she is a gem! A stay at the Bijou is an experience that you'll love! Sue and Teri

Working with Joelle was great and we had no complaints with the arrangements or her instructions on how to get to the apartment. The only thing that I wished I had seen noted elsewhere was the fact that this is a first floor apartment and the street noise is noticeable. There is some sort of utility cover in the sidewalk just outside the window, which makes a loud thud every time someone walks over it. Earplugs are probably a good idea. The apartment is tiny, but we spent so little time there that it suited our needs. This was our first experience with VBRO and would certainly use it again. I would recommend this flat to anyone who is looking for a cozy retreat from the streets of Paris.

Owner response: Thank you for making us aware of the noise from the utility cover. No one had mentioned it previously. We are contacting the water department to have them stabilize it.

Wow! What can we say? The location was perfect. We walked five minutes down to the Bastille and got the 69 bus which takes you to all the major tourist sights in Paris. Marais has some great restaurants so we ate there after a busy day touring. The bakery at the end of the street has a great range of pastries, baguettes and croissants which you can pick up in the morning for breakfast. In conclusion,we would recommend this studio apartment for a couple or a single person wishing to tour Paris and stay in a safe and enjoyable district.

I couldn't imagine a more pleasant place to stay in Paris. I spent five days in Joelle's apartment from December 16 - 21. The week before Christmas is a magical time in Paris. I would describe Paris at Christmas as the City of Lights on steroids. The weather was cold and rainy, but the apartment was so cozy and warm. The hustle and bustle of Parisians shopping and preparing for Christmas was less than 5 minutes away, but the apartment felt like my quiet sanctuary. The Marais is my favorite section of Paris and to come home to the apartment at night added so much to my trip. It is an easy and pleasant walk to Notre Dame and the Seine. There are so many great things to do and places to eat within a few minutes of the apartment. I recommend the outdoor market at the Bastille. The apartment had everything I needed. Arriving and finding a bottle of wine on the table was such a welcoming touch. I immediately felt at home. Joelle is such a pleasure to work with. She obviously takes great pride in the apartment and does everything she can to provide a home away from home. The information book on restaurants was great. I especially appreciated her advice and her descriptions and recommendations were perfect. I went directly from Paris to London and also rented an apartment. There was no comparison to Le Petite Bijou as far as warmth, comfort and feeling welcomed. In fact, I was quite sad when I left Paris. When I arrived in London, I spent a night wondering if I made a mistake by not spending more time in Paris. I can't wait to return to Paris and Le Petit Bijou. Thanks Joelle.

We stayed at Joelle's apartment for 10 days over the 2011 Christmas/New Year period and it was a delightful experience. The apartment has everything you could wish for in an efficient and pleasant space. The bed is comfortable and the noise level is low. The building is secure and the location is outstanding - a short walk to la bastille and the metro station there. the metro is easy, safe, efficient and wonderful - think london's underground but better. Bastille is on the main line to downtown and nearly all the other lines cross it making it very easy to get around. The apartment is also 10 mins walk to Notre Dame (went to first mass of the year - amazing!) and to Il-St.Louis - well worth the time. You know your reasons for going to Paris and staying in Le Marais at Joelle's apartment would be a perfect compliment to your trip.
