We stayed at the cabin for 2 nights and had a wonderful time. Beautiful area, lots to do in Hoodsport (and surrounding area), stopped at the Hoodsport Winery, and had a FABULOUS dinner at the restaurant in Robin Hood Village in Union. The downside: be very careful of cabin rules as they will cost you enormously $$ if violated in any way. We made the mistake of using a couple pieces of wood from next to the garage for our bonfire the last night there -admittedly "our bad". However, given a 5 piece bundle cost $5.19 at local store, and we used approximate market equivalent of $8-$10 of wood I have to say the $50 charged for our infraction was EXCESSIVE! Perhaps a $40 charge for pain and suffering. We grabbed a couple pieces of wood at about 9pm our last night and had a fire going until midnight. It was implied we used 1/3 cord of wood. Not even possible in 3 hours time. The wood we used up until that night was purchased by us. I believe this was attempt to recoup the $159 credit given for 1 night due to half day of septic problems and having plumber outside the front door drilling and snaking. Stuff happens to be sure, and we felt satisfied re; the 1 night credit for inconvenience. However, the excessive cost for a few pieces of wood versus the actual market cost has left a sour taste for me. We fully intended to return as a truly beautiful spot and more than lovely cabin but, afraid being charged for 1/3 cord of wood has changed our mind. Forewarned is forearmed. Had I any idea that we might be charged approx 5x actual cost (figure $50 for 10 pieces - or less wood), I would have just jumped in the car at 9pm and picked up 2 bundles at the store for $10.40! Expensive lesson learned. I will still give a Good rating for beauty of location and the cabin itself, and the owner was nothing but very pleasant to work with. FYI - We also had the joy of watching a mama seal and 3 pups nearly entire time there. What a treat!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: As much as I appreciate the patience of the renters regarding the plumbing emergency, I do moniter my property and private woodpile very closely. In addition, I do have full-time neighbors who keep a close eye on the property and guests. Because I leave wood in the cabin's woodbox for my renters, this is the first time I've had anyone use wood from my stock which is out of the way next to my garage. Fully seasoned wood, stacked and delivered is $400/cord. And there was a substantial amount of wood missing, at least 1/3 cord. Two different neighbors let me know the fire in the firepit was going non-stop during their stay and there was wood being taken from my woodpile. In fact there was not even enough split wood left to fill my next renter's wood box for their stay. I truly believe $50 charge was very reasonable. Interestingly enough, this is only the second time I've ever had to charge a guest for ANYTHING, the first being a broken art piece which the guest kindly offered to take care of after calling me immediately when it happened.

Loved starting the day with the sunrise, morning silence, fresh air and view out over the water. The sun-drenched porch/deck was the perfect spot to sip our coffee and plan the day ahead. Evenings, we ate outside and, before bedtime, watched the moon rise, big and golden, to the east. We were mostly out and about during the day, but cooked great meals in the well-equipped kitchen (bring a coffee grinder if you're a whole bean lover) and cured up with books in the cozy living room at night. Master bedroom was very comfortable...good bed, spacious and full of light. Our dog loved lounging on the porch, but was a bit frustrated not being able to get into the water. We opted not to let her swim in the cove because of the oyster beds and need to avoid trespassing on the neighbor's property/beach. (We drove up to Cushman Lake and wore her out swimming in the clear, deep water there.) The only other drawback for us was the sound of traffic on the highway above. However, early morning and at night, it was wonderfully silent.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers.

I love this little cabin!!! I wish I was the one that owns it. My husband had asked be to reserve the place already for next year before we even left. We brought our kayaks and we kayaked our hearts out on hood canal. The beach was easy so easy to launch from. And filled with oysters. We brought our crab pots too and caught about 8. So we had a seafood feast on the deck that is shaded by a beautiful tree. I would definitely reserve this place again. If you love the water, shellfish and peace. This place is perfect.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1999
About the owner: I love to hike, fish, swim and play near the water. Having grown up in a small town, living in the city can be quite a challenge for me. Spending time at the cabin is a great way for me to relax and unwind with my daughter and my two little pups.
Why the Owner Chose Lilliwaup:
We purchased our vacation home in 1999 and have loved every minute we have spent there. It is one of the rare waterfront canal homes that is located off the main highway so it is quiet and peaceful. Now that our daughter is a teenager, we are finding it hard to spend as much time as we'd like there. So we are taking this opportunity to share the beauty and charm of our little cabin with others.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Shep's Castle is a rare find on the canal. Located off Highway 101, it's a peaceful and quiet setting to relax, unwind, walk the dogs or play like crazy while crabbing, shrimping, fishing, swimming, etc. This place has it ALL!!
