The thatched cottage was cozy and warm even in an unusual rainy January week. I loved having use of the two coal/peat burning stoves - having a fire in the kitchen was a lovely way to start and end the day. There was plenty of room around the kitchen table for meals and games and lots of room to spread out on times when we all needed some space. Mom and I had the place to ourselves for the first five days and appreciated the luxury of the two bedrooms and two bathrooms. When the rest of the family joined us there was plenty of sleeping space for six adults (two of the sofas pullout into full sized beds). The upstairs loft is lovely; you have to be fairly spry to reach it via the ladder-like stairs, I thoroughly enjoyed the view through the skylights and privacy of the space. Martin and his family were amazingly helpful with random questions including finding a local company to replace a tyre on the rental car. He was very responsive to all of my questions prior to arriving. Arriving after delayed flights it was wonderful to find the fridge and breadbox stocked. Martin greeted us with delicious soup and sandwiches and made us feel right at home. It was easy to get to Shannon, Limerick, Adaire, and Newcastle West and several points of interest from the cottage. I'm looking forward to my next visit!

This cottage was ideal for our driving tour of Southwestern Ireland. We made easy day-trips to The Cliffs of Moher, Bunratty Castle, Dingle Peninsula, Blarney and Cork, Limerick's King John's Castle, Rock of Cashell, and Cahir Castle. The towns of Newcastle West, Adare, and city of Limerick were all close by for restaurants and supplies. Best of all, the cottage was exactly as indicated on VRBO, maybe better. I use a walker, and found that the two short steps to enter the house were easy to naneuver, with the kitchen counter available for support. The entire house was clean, comfortable, and excellently furnished. There were two bedrooms with plenty of closet space, two bathrooms with showers and heated towel racks, a living room and sitting area in the kitchen. The kitchen had under-the-counter, well-stocked refrigerator and separate freeezer, dishwaser, and washer. With the small appliances, fully equipped kitchen, and the groceries our host had provided, we prepared a few meals at 'home'. Martin even greeted us with an Irish chicken stew upon arrival, quickly followed by apple pie a la mode! We loved meeting his family, just like neighbors, who were very helpful with advice on the local attractions and services. My husband really enjoyed talking with him about the power and water sources, somewhat different from those in Texas. My husband even climbed the ladders into the two loft areas behind each fireplace. He said it would be great for kids. The cottage had lots of CD's of a wide variety of music styles, and a television in each room. The rain didn't bother us too much because we could drive right up to the back door and walk right into the warm, dry, cozy home. We stayed five nights, and would love to have stayed longer, had time allowed. We would recommend this house to anyone who wants to visit the Southwestern area without having to change hotels every night. If you have mobility issues, this may be the place for you. The only thing I would say in warning, is to rent a smaller car because, like most areas we drove in Ireland, the roads are narrow! Thank you for a great vacation expewrience.

My wife, 6 month old daughter, parents and I stayed here for three nights on the start of our family vacation before heading to Dublin, Scotland, and London. We can honestly say that Martin and his family made the first part of our trip the best because of his cottage! The location was so great while being close to Shannon airport, Dingle, Doolin, Limerick and so much more. We had a easy cab ride from Shannon airport and hired a driver for two days to take us to all the beautiful locations that Ireland has to offer. Everything was no more than 30 to 90 minutes away from the cottage. Martin and his wife made us feel right at home during our stay by being so thoughtful, friendly and accommodating. They even gave us a crib, car seat and bath for our 6 month old daughter which made her trip and ours even more enjoyable. If we make our way back to Ireland we will be staying here again!

Martin and his wife were very warm and friendly and were great hosts while we stayed at the cottage. We were suprised to see the fridged stocked with essentials and a bottle of wine on the table after our drive up from Cork. My wife and I have two young girls and the cottage was a comfortable stay for all of us. We plan to be back to the Ballingarry area in the future (I have family in the area) so we will definately stay here again.

Such a sweet find past the small town of Knockaderry. Quiet streets, waking up to the sound of cows lowing quietly, good water pressure in the showers. Perfect size for family of four with add'l adult. Lofts are super cool for the kids. Owner nearby if needed and accessible. Very welcoming and kind. Our dinner was provided and it was a delicious chicken stew. Sandwich fixin's were made available upon arrival. A few more spiders than we preferred, but they added to the charm and weren't too scary looking. Highly recommend based on space in the house, bathroom niceness, location (central to tourist sites), friendliness of owner, price, full kitchen and Irish charm. Thank you!

Nice central point to our many travels (~1 hour to our various goals in many directions.). Martin and Katrina are very nice and welcoming. Martin's homemade, warm, and waiting Irish Stew was a nice thing to come to on checking in after a long day out. A bit of stocked groceries was also a nice touch as we arrived a bit flat footed on that score. My son especially liked the towel warmers which he would cuddle up to when on. I'd say more, but we're still there and I'm sure to find more things of comfort. Maybe tutoring on the game of hurling. . .

Our family of 5 had a terrific time at this quant Irish cottage. The pictures provided in the property listing description were completely accurate of the nature of this cottage. The location was nice to access the region we experienced with the Cliffs of Mohr, Cashel and the Dingle area. Martin, Katrina and their new baby Emma were super friendly, helpful and perfect host. We really felt welcomed and appreciated that. We really enjoyed a special gourmet meal prepared by Martin for our sons birthday and the time in the yard with the hurling mallets. We would definitely recommend this cottage and family for anyone traveling into this region of Ireland. Our only regret is that we did not spend more time. Someday we hope to return.

Traditional Irish stew awaited us when we arrived after challenging travel from Dublin. We were first time Ireland drivers! Martin was gracious and helpful with directions and ideas for places to visit. House was very cozy and inviting. Nice place for a family retreat! Just one issue with the drainage in one of the bathrooms, they assured me would be addressed. What a wonderful place to visit! Everyone was so friendly and the landscape is amazing. Just be prepared with a good map and take good notes on directions!

Just returned from a week in Ireland during which we spent 5 nights at Martin's 'thatched roof' cottage. We could not be more pleased. The cottage was everything that was described. A traditional 19th century look outside, with all the modern conveniences you could want inside. The kitchen is well equipped for those interested in 'cooking in' rather than dining out. Martin had a supply of essential groceries ready for us when we arrived along with a prepared meal that was not only most welcome, but delicious as well. The cottage is located in a prime spot for touring the southwest of Ireland. In a quiet rural setting between Ballingarry and Knockaderry the cottage is a single unit with a small front yard and a bigger back yard for young children to roam. Plenty of parking in the rear of the house. Anywhere from Waterville to Galway is a convenient day-trip away. The Ring of Kerry, Cliffs of Moher, Dingle Pennisula, etc. are all an easy drive. If you're a golfer some of the best links courses in Ireland are within easy reach: Lahinch, Doonbeg, Ballybunion, Tralee, Waterville to name a few. And of course it's less than an hour drive to the airport at Shannon, making the cottage very convenient for arrival or departure. But all this is secondary to the host himself. You can search the whole of western Ireland and I don't think you'll find a more gracious and accomodating host than Martin. He went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable with the house and it's features, as well as providing any needed directions and recommendations concerning our daily trips. He was always available if we needed any type of assistance. Martin's wife baked us a delicious dessert for one of the evenings we stayed in the cottage to eat. Great house, superb location, and most of all wonderful folks to deal with. Very reasonable priced, I have no problem recommending this 'traditional thatched roof cottage' to anyone.
