Villas Escaleras offer a vacation experience combining comfort and luxury, nestled in lush rainforest, high above the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. The properties share a 4.5 acre site, verdant with native trees and plants and, while connected by a paved walking path, are visually separated by dense jungle. Each property features a wraparound veranda, overlooking its own swimming pool, a huge jungle valley teeming with wildlife and the Pacific Ocean, with its stunning sunsets, just beyond.
Both verandas are furnished with plenty of hammocks, bamboo lounges and hammock chairs so everyone in your group can relax and watch the languid daily activity of the tropics, toucans and other colorful birds gliding by, troops of howler and white-faced monkeys swinging in the trees, coati mundis and javelinas foraging for food below and the occasional sloth just hanging around. If the season is right, you may see a pod of humpbacked or pilot whales, sounding, broaching and spouting water as they make their way down the coast to their breeding grounds in nearby Drake Bay. All the while, the soothing sounds of the surf on the beach, water rushing in nearby streams, birds and tree frogs calling and cicadas humming, will fill your ears with the sound of the tropics.
If your idea of a vacation calls for more action, use the Villas as your base to make forays, usually of 10 minutes or less, to any of a dozen or so area beaches for swimming, surfing, fishing, kayaking, shelling or just exploring, to visit the nearby Hacienda Baru or Rancho Merced wildlife refuges for nature tours, afoot or by horseback, zipline and canopy tours and birdwatching, to arrange for a horseback ride to a nearby waterfall, a sport fishing excursion, both inshore and in deep water, a day of exploration by kayak in the mangroves or along a part of the coast which is laced with caves and caverns or snorkeling, SCUBA diving or whale watching in Uvita's Marina Ballena national park or more distant Cano Island National Preserve. Shopping, banking (including ATMs), fine and budget dining and night life are available in Dominical and Uvita, both within a 10 minute drive from the Villas.
The Villa's three interior levels include four spacious bedroom suites, each with a full bath, large, fully-equipped kitchen with custom cabinetry and new, General Electric appliances and a Great Room with vaulted ceiling, large (12 person) dining table, custom bar and media alcove. The Casa includes a living room and sleeping mezzanine with 18'ceilings, galley kitchen and full bath. Both feature rare and beautiful tropical hardwood appointments and Spanish tile floors throughout, tasteful custom furnishings in the traditional Central American style, incorporating natural fabrics from Guatemala and Peru. Walls are decorated with Latin American art as well as prints, paintings and photos by commercial artists and photographers who have stayed with us in the past.
Guests may access an extensive library of books and CDs, satellite TV, DVD players, ipod-accessible stereo CD and tape players, telephone, desktop computer with high speed Internet access through a wireless network and full laundry facilities. Linens and towels, including pool/beach towels, are provided. Smoker/barbecue, pool toys, spotting scope, binoculars, walkie-talkies, field guides for animal and bird recognition, are also available for guest use.
