Location: Florence, Central Coast, Oregon, USA (Heceta Beach, north of Florence - 65 miles west of Eugene) View Map
Accommodations: House, 2 Bedrooms + Loft, 1 Bath (Sleeps 6)
Keywords: House
A delightful beach retreat - perfect as a base for the many nearby activities or as a place to "snuggle in" and enjoy the views from the charming interior and perfectly-situated deck. Located on a quiet dead-end street overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the home is nonetheless close to restaurants and commercial services.
Beachcombing guests take a short path (2 minutes or so) to the beach where, heading south, they can enjoy the tidepools of the North Jetty. A stroll to the north highlights the Heceta Head lighthouse, at the very tip of the point forming this expansive beach.
The enchanting home is small - just over 1000 square feet - - but is arranged in a way that affords privacy to its visitors. While The Hut can accommodate up to 6 guests, it is most enjoyable for a couple or a young family. Four adults or more will fit, but they had better really like each other!
The common area on the main floor consists of an open living room, dining area and well-equipped kitchen, all tastefully appointed and inviting. The bathroom and a bedroom are also located on the main floor, the bedroom furnished with twin beds.
Upstairs, the master bedroom, with king-size bed, overlooks the vast ocean and is a delight at night as the ocean twinkles with the lights from fishing boats or moonbeams on a clear night.
The morning is equally exhilarating, as the rising sun casts its pink rays on the silvery ocean. A loft, adjacent to the master, although separated by a door, is a wonderful sleeping area with its two twin beds.
The home, while near other homes, is very private, both inside and outside. The owner has opted to present it as a "home away from home" for the guests, who are free to enjoy the many games, books and magazines, most of which are sources of history and information about the Central Oregon Coast and the nearby attractions. A new washer and dryer are on site for guest use.
Many guests end up just "hanging out" at the house, visiting the beach, doing puzzles or reading and playing games. Nearby activities, however, abound. From the quaint shops of Old Town in Florence to the exciting hikes and Interpretive Center at Cape Perpetua just 25 miles to the north, the area will satisfy just about all entertainment needs. And, for the guest seeking riskier experiences, riding the sand dunes south of The Bridge or visiting the Three Rivers Casino offer even more possibilities. This is an ideal vacation retreat for a couple, an individual, two couples or a small family. It is not large, but it is a true treasure.
Out of respect for the neighbors on this quiet street, no RV's or campers. And, for the comfort of future guests, please respect this property as a Smoke-Free environment.

Why the Owner Chose Florence
Ah, let me count the ways/reasons! Probably the most important motivator was the proximity of The Hut to Eugene, where I lived at the time of my purchase. In an hour I could be there, taking deep breaths of the ocean air and and hurrying down Heceta Road to my treasured retreat. I would fling open the front door and go instantly to the back deck to gaze at the ocean and feel the freshness of the air (regardless of the weather!). And that was the end of the "hurrying mode!" Nothing beats lying in the master bed at night, with the glittering ocean and starry sky seeming almost within reach. And the mornings - - ah! The pinkness of the dawn, the changing silhouettes of the shadowed homes on the ridge as the sun rises..... unbeatable! And, this haven of privacy is just minutes from the charming Old Town of Florence. If driving is not your style, Jerry's, a tavern reknowned by locals for its burgers, fries and more, is within easy walking distance up the road and the restaurant at Driftwood shores is just down the beach a short walk. I have such happy memories of oceanside breakfasts there after earning the treat by completing the leisurely beach walk to its doors!
The Unique Benefits at this House
Too many, way too many to list!
Owner's Map of Florence
I am a native Oregonian, having recently moved to New England to be with two of my three (grown) children and to watch my three granddaughters, now ages 2 to 10, grow and flourish. I miss the Oregon coast and my little Hut, which I lavished with love and enjoyed more than I can describe! I cannot bear to think of it empty, cold and vacant and have resumed renting it to caring guests after a year-long absence from vrbo. I look forward to welcoming my many past guests and forming bonds through the Hut with future occupants.

What a fabulous mini-vacation we had at the 'hut'! It was exactly as we saw it in the pictures on vrbo and sooo comfortable and beachy! We had everything we needed for a romantic and relaxing stay. It was such a plus to be able to have our dogs with us, too! We all enjoyed many walks on the beach in the amazingly beautiful weather. It was even warm enough to spend an afternoon lounging on the deck in the comfortable deck chairs thoughtfully provided. We drove out to see the Heceta Head and Yaquina lighthouses-spectacular and the volunteers were fun and very informative. We had lunch in Yachats at the Drift Inn-yummy crab melt and friendly staff. We also had a memorable dinner at the Waterfront Depot in Florence. Love that place! Very busy but the staff were very attentive and the food was delicious! Can't wait to come back for another stay. Thank you!
Owner response:So good to hear that you all four enjoyed your time at The Hut and that you were able to enjoy the fabulous weather! You seem to have done many of the things I enjoy there - - Waterfront Depot, walking on the beach and exploring the lighthouses. For next time, you might add the Umpqua Lighthouse on Winchester Bay in Reedsport (just south of Florence). It is not as famous as the others, but is beautiful and also the "sister" lighthouse to the one at Heceta Head. Thanks for visiting the Hut! ~ judi

The Hut is everything and more than what the VRBO listing describes. The Hut sits in a charming Florence neighborhood on a dead end street. The wall of glass in the living room is all that separates you from the mighty Pacific Ocean and sunsets that make your heart stop. The house is thoughtfully appointed without being cluttered. The kitchen is small and extremely functional. The owner has made very good use of each space and the rooms are open and light. The Hut truly affords an ocean front Oregon experience.
Owner response:Thank you! I'm so happy that you enjoyed yourselves - - in much the same way that I do when I am fortunate enough to be there! And, thank you from both me and from my housekeeper for leaving The Hut in such a tidy condition. You are welcome back anytime! ~ judi

Great Beach House

We had a fantastic time on our quick weekend getaway to the beach. The setting is fantastic - an unobstructed ocean view on a secluded drive. The beautiful and uncrowded beach is a short walk away. The house had everything we needed: full kitchen, dining table, couches for spreading out and enjoying the view, a giant king bed, and two spare bedrooms. Setting up the rental was easy. The owner provided great information on the property (directions, lockbox, turning on the head, etc.) and the surrounding area. She even chimed in over email to let us know of some local events going on in Florence during the weekend of our stay. We plan to rent this unit again.
Owner response:Thank you, Drew! I will be delighted to welcome all of you again someday. Stay warm and dry! I hear it's going to be stormy in Portland.

Thank you so much for providing such a wonderful place for my girlfriend and I to spend a long weekend away. The house is absolutely charming and so well equipped for cozy nights spent playing the many board games. The kitchen would make Martha Stewart feel right at home with all the amenities one would need to fix a dinner of fresh seafood straight off the boats. Everything was so very clean and we loved being able to use the binoculars to watch the boats out on the sea. The little path to the beach gave us a feel of a real adventure. Having the tide table book was handy, too, as we were able to find many sea shells and six whole sand dollars! We wish we could have stayed longer but we will be back for sure as soon as we can. Thank you for providing us with such a wonderful place to stay and wonderful memories!

Guest Comment Entered By Homeowner: Arrived to this beautiful ocean view after spending the night snowed in @ Dunsmuir. So happy we have 4WD. Beachcombing at it's best!! Large shells and sand dollars. Many were broken, but managed to find a few jewels from the ocean. Dogs LOVED running on the sand dunes and beach. Came back to our nice retreat for naps. :-) BBQ dinners, wine on the patio & ddeck, down comforters on the bed, such a nice place for a vacation. The 14hur drive from Hanford, CA was well worth it. Hi Judi, Just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed ourselves at "the Fabulous Little Beach Hut"! One of our best vacations ever. Beach-walks, golf, skim boarding, more beach-walks, BBQ'd oysters(amazing little kitchen!), quads on the dunes(even ME!). Lots of staring out the windows & back deck sitting too. Great naps! A jigsaw puzzle addiction with my teen boys allowed for minimal electronic gizmo interference! It was truly joyful. Made even more poignant by the fact that our oldest is heading off to college in a few weeks. OSU! I know for certain we'll be back. So thankful to have grabbed that cancellation!
