Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2005

My husband Marc and I bought Tuck's Landing in 2005. It was built in 2001, and was in great condition although it needed some TLC in the decor and furnishings.
We replaced the all of the furniture - except for the kitchen table, painted the walls, and decorated it, giving it a facelift to create an inviting and more welcoming atmosphere. We have our own personal website with a lot of great information, a link is here on VRBO for your convenience.
It has been a wonderful adventure and we have met some amazing people over the years that have stayed at our house.
In fact - we bought another beach front house last July that we are currently renovating and hope to have it ready for guests this summer.
Tuck's Retreat - coming soon!

Why the Owner Chose San Luis Pass

San Luis Pass is a fantastic area, so close to all Galveston has to offer yet significantly quieter and less crowded. It is a family oriented neighborhood with 24 hour on site security.
The 12 mile beach that runs between Surfside and San Luis Pass ends at our community, about 100 yards behind Tuck's Landing, which means less crowds and a more private beach to enjoy.
Thanks to Hurricane Ike we now have a beach directly in front of our house, so there are two beach areas to choose from in our neighborhood.

The Unique Benefits of this House

Beautiful sunrises on the deck, the sound of the ocean and seagulls, watching for dolphins, long walks on the beach, looking for sea shells, seeing Brown Pelican's fly overhead. Going into Galveston and sitting at The Spot and Tiki Bar on Seawall Blvd. to have a drink and people watch on the patio.

My wife and I were very pleased with Tuck's Landing! It was everything we could have hoped for on the budget we had! Very clean and well kept up property! Although not exactly on the beach, it still had some pretty awesome views from the porch. We would definately recommend this rental to anyone!

A Great Value

We're a homeschool family from Katy TX and take our vacations in October when the weather gets nice and crowds clear out of places. This was our first time to rent a beach house (we've been going to some cottages down in Rockport for a few years). I looked at a ton of listings all up and down the coast before finding this gem. It had a great rate compared to everything I was interested in. The house was well-furnished for our vacation. The view from the deck is stellar, and when we arrived our first evening the full moon was rising directly over the water. The house is located between two different beach access points, one is the 12 mile beach that stretches to Surfside which we found great for swimming (and we caught a bunch of whiting), and on the other side is the beach that leads to the pass which we found was great for birding and shelling (found 7 unbroken sand dollars on one walk). Due to the season, it was like we had the Island to ourselves. We're from the Gulf Coast, so are not strangers to the beach, but this was a great new experience to actually "live" there in a relaxed way for a few days. As my wife and I like to say to one another, this is a do-again kind of thing.

We stayed at this beach house in July and had the best time. Location was great and the house was clean. I would recommend this property to anyone looking to stay in the San Luis area. My granddaughter wrote in the guest book and it said it all. She is only 10 and wrote a very touching note. Our dogs and family will return to this property 4 sure...:)

Family Vacation

Guest: Gi Gi (Hill Country TX)
Date of Stay: 08/05/11 Review Submitted: 08/14/11

Eight members of our family enjoyed a pleasant week at Tuck's Landing. There was room for all to sleep but if two more had been able to come who knows where they would have slept (the sofa did not make into a bed and no blow-up mattress was evident). The bunk room had no storage except under the beds as the closet was locked. In general storage was an issue: no place to put toiletries for 8-10 and insufficient towel bars. I personally would have used hooks since space was at a premium. We purchased the linen option. These were fine although I yearned for thicker towels but then they would never have dried, Wish the beds had been made. We stay in condos all over the country and the world and never had to make our own beds. DIL thought they smelled a bit funky--maybe a combination of detergent used and the humidity. The queen size sheets appeared to be brand new. The others were obviously older and just dried and quickly folded. The kitchen was fine equipment-wise BUT 6 forks for 8-10 people doesn't work. Likewise the table only seated 6. I was disappointed to find the refrigerator and freezer reeking of fish. The whole floor of the freezer compartment was covered with a sheet of ice that probably contained the odor. Since I was on vacation I declined to defrost and clean it out. I did wipe it down before leaving but the ice was still there. There is no water hook-up to the icemaker or it is broken so bring your own ice as the ice trays are old and don't empty easily. The outdoor shower was much appreciated. It got hotter water than the master bath. The grill was convenient albeit rusty--Hey! its the beach and things rust. The deck was nice The beach--about 300 or so yards from the house is nice. The gkids loved swimming, building sandcastles and shelling. The 5 year old gdaughter learned to body surf and an indulgent gfather bought her a body board. Awesome! 2.5 year old gson flew his first kite after I got it up in the air. His face was luminous with wonder. The steep pet deposit kept us from bringing our dog who would have enjoyed the waves as evidenced by others pets. We would return if we had a smaller party--maybe four. But if the whole family comes we will seek bigger quarters.

We had a wonderful time and the home and location were great! The family room and kitchen were much larger than we felt the photos showed! My husband loves to wade fish in the surf so it is great for him to be able to walk out the door and fish in front of the house - easy for him and I can watch him while relaxing on the beach or on the gorgeous deck over the ocean. We will be back!

A Whitney family reunion at the beach! We had a very nice time enjoying the ocean and new baby. Who knows when we will all be together again? Our last day here we had a huge rainbow right over us - a reminder of God's promises! Thanks, the place was great!

We had a fabulous vacation in your lovely home. The size was perfect for us. And the view and beach was incredible. Our kids had a blast! We really enjoyed spending time on the deck watching the waves while sipping on cocktails. If there is anything we wished we had would be access to the garage to store our beach gear and toys. :-) Overall we were very pleased and made some wonderful memories! Thank you

Dear Tuck's Landing, You have a truly amazing place! The calming sound of the waves outside is very majestic and such a treat to fall asleep to. My husband, Phillip, and I could have found no better place to celebrate our first wedding anniversary! P.S. Many thanks for allowing pets! Our pug, S'mores, enjoyed every inch of the beach and loved the cool ocean!
