- The Hiawassee area offers many activities, including swimming, fishing and boating in Lake Chatuge, hiking on the Appalachian Trail, cycling and horseback riding in the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains, and golfing at nearby Brasstown Valley Resort, Hiawassee is also centrally located to three major whitewater rafting sites in NC, SC and TN, including the Ocoee River, one of the 1996 Summer Olympics venues, There are many good restaurants, and great antiques shopping at several local antique stores, including the locally owned Hiawassee Antique Mall, The Georgia Mountain Fair is a local attraction with fairs in May and October, and country music performances all summer long at Anderson Music Hall, Hiawassee is within easy driving distance of several popular tourist destinations, including Franklin and Highlands, NC, Clayton and Dillard, GA, and is only a short two hour drive from the Smoky Mountains Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg are.
