"After spending 11+ years in hotels in the area when visiting family during the summer, our family spent a week here this past August and felt truly blessed. One is never sure what to expect until one actually sees a property in person and I am here to tell you that it is just as beautiful as in the pictures! We began each morning out on the deck drinking coffee and looking out over the lake and ended our days out on the deck watching the beautiful sunsets. I have to say that we did not want to leave when the week was over. It was truly a sanctuary for us. We are already contacting the owner (who truly is wonderful to work with) in order to plan next year's trip. We are thinking this will be a new tradition for our family."

"I rented this home for a week with my sister-in-law. We stayed here with our six boys below the age of 8 and my mother. We all LOVED our week in Hawks Nest and wished we could have stayed there for the whole month. This house is the perfect summer cottage - right on the water, easy to keep clean and live in with both older people and a lot of little kids, the great picnic table dining area overlooking the water provided a space for relaxing meals and fun board game competitions, the beds were very comfortable and the sound of the waves outside the windows was divine. The house had all the utensils we needed for making delicious summer meals.
The Hawks Nest community is friendly, welcoming and fun. We met many other families who were also there for the week and everyone had a great time playing together, sharing stories and exploring the beach. The little country store across the street from this home provides daily activities for kids organized by a local college student. The college student who organized the activities the week we were there was GREAT with our kids. She took the kids crabbing and then organized crab races on the beach, organized a morning of making tie-dye t-shirts, taught the kids how to make bubble wands out of pipe cleaners, set up shell painting and arranged for a scientist from Mystic to come teach the kids about ocean life. The scientist brought about 10 different marine animals with him which the kids got to touch. There is also a beach movie night on Thursdays. None of the activities needed to be signed up for in advance so everything was very relaxing. We could just show up when/if we wanted to join the activities and all of the activities were free, so it was like having a summer camp without the hassle of planning and paying huge fees. At the end of the week, the college student organized a talent show for the kids. This was a HUGE highlight for the kids and comical for the parents to watch.
The street is a dead end street. Our kids rode their bikes all around the neighborhood without having to worry about cars.
The beach is rocky so some people might prefer to have water shoes for swimming or wading out into the water. We played in our bare feet and our kids did not use water shoes but I noticed a lot of other people wore water shoes.
Thank you for a wonderful week in Old Lyme!"

"Missy and her husband are wonderful. It was very easy to get ahold of them, they were lovely to talk to, and they were more than accommodating. I highly recommend working with them, they made everything extremely easy. Very cute and cozy house in a quiet and lovely location. Outdoor patio is a really great added bonus."

"Our family of 5 plus doggie spent a glorious week here. What an amazing piece of property, and an equally amazing house. Everything was spotless. The kitchen was a delight, so much room. The house itself is very large, there are plenty of places to spread out and relax. The log cabin feel and décor makes you feel instantly welcome. The grounds are park-like, your own private oasis. The owners were very helpful, kind and relaxed people. We took advantage of all Granite Lodge had to offer - from the fire pit [s'mores!], grilling, hot tub and pool. What a pool it was! We have young kids, the pool at the shallowest is 18", and 12 feet at the deepest. Something for everyone. My kids lived in that pool. We even went fishing at the little pond at the entrance. While a bit precarious for little kids, we gave it a try anyway - and we caught some fish! There's a beast of a turtle that lives in the pond too, he came up to say hello. The kids were thrilled. There is space to run around, although we never used the soccer ball we brought with us, the pool was just too big of a temptation. We felt like we were far and away from civilization, but Branford and Guilford are just minutes away. We explored a little bit, there's peach picking, a winery, a fabulous playground at Jacob's Beach. Tried the Chowder Pot based on another's guest's review, it was dynamite and quite reasonable. If you brought all supplies with you, you wouldn't find a reason to leave. But there is a supermarket close by, plus loads of farmers' stands dotted along Route 1. What a beautiful area of Connecticut, we're so delighted we discovered it. Can't wait to come back. Thanks Barbara and Joe!"
