The perfect country retreat

Lovely accommodation. All the mod cons yet with lovely traditional character. Very warm and cosy. The location is great, situated in the very quiet hamlet of Outhgill yet only 5 miles from Kirkby Stephen with it's array of shops & pubs. Highly recommend the Black Bull at Nateby for it's Sunday lunch. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our 5 day stay at 'The Stables'

Wonderful Dales cottage!

We really enjoyed our stay in Outhgill. The cottage was lovely, and really well equipped (with more than enough room for the four adults in our party). The cottage is situated in a beautiful location, with numerous walking trails straight from the door! It really is great spot for anyone who enjoys walking, running or cycling. The real highlights for us was visiting the many waterfalls in the area, and having red squirrels visit the garden! Would highly recommend this cottage. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Great facilities

House is very well equipped, very clean and a very pleasant place to stay. Plenty of room for 8 people. The weather was appalling for our stay so our children enjoyed working their way through the plentiful DVD selection!

Lovely Holiday

Perfect accommodation for our holiday exploring the Yorkshire dales with the family, we all loved Forbidden Corner (needs booking in advance); and the Wendslydale Creamery. We also enjoyed numerous walks recomended in the useful information pack and particularly were delighted to discover the little Edwardian rock garden in Aysgarth on the last day.

Great half term break

The old stables is a beautiful cottage set in beautiful surroundings. It was very cosy & clean & well equipped. We all loved our stay. Plenty of room for 6 adults and 2 children. Thank you for letting us stay.

All ok but we think that as a two week stay the bedding should have been changed after a week

The only downside was poor internet, and as stated in review lack of bedding change plus grass cutting.

I am a retired company director and now work part time as a consultant. I live in The Peak District and enjoy country walks and hill climbing. As a family, we love spending time at The Old Stables, enjoying the beautiful open spaces and the wildlife.

The cottage is in a truly special part of England. The Mallerstang valley has been described as England’s last wilderness, yet it is less than 30 minutes from M6. The barn conversion combines modern comforts with the charm of original features in a character cottage. The cottage was converted 20 years ago and retains features such as stone walls in the livingroom and exposed beams in a number of rooms.

Shops are a five minute drive away. The Lake District is 40 minutes and the Yorkshire Dales are 15 minutes away. Some of the best walks in the country are in Swaledale, which is the valley next to Mallerstang.

この宿泊施設の特徴

Uniquely the Mallerstang valley is close to the lakes and Dales, yet is within easy access of motorways. We regularly see red squirrels in the valley and often in our garden. The hamlet consists of some 12 houses, plus a historic church. One of the many walks from the house follows the river Eden and takes you past three ruined castles, including Pendragon Castle which was Lady Anne Clifford’s favourite. She was a seventeenth century aristocrat who travelled between her castles along Lady Anne’s way part of which is accessed half a mile down the road. In the summer you can catch a vintage bus outside the house to Hawes and return on foot on Lady Anne’s Way. The Settle Carlisle railway runs along the other side of the valley and can be joined at Kirkby Stephen. Steam trains Run on the line throughout the year. Appleby, with its annual horse fair is about fifteen miles away.
