Overview

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms (MBR + Bunk Area), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Quiet Vacation Spot in the Warmer Months.

The Cabin is located with the Cole House next to a private pond at 1700 feet on a quiet picturesque dead-end dirt road just below (one and one-half miles) the Stratton Mountain ski resort. Tennis, golf, horseback riding, and concerts at an outdoor shell are summertime features at the resort.

Rustic & Comfortable.

Warm and friendly, this is a cozy dwelling, comfortably furnished.

The one-person stand-up kitchen has a stainless steel sink, dishwasher, electric range, coffee-maker, microwave, toaster and a refrigerator. The log living room has a view of the pond and is cheered by a brick fireplace with an Avalon wood burning fireplace insert. Gas heat is available when needed. For dining, there is a locally made free form pine slab table.

There are two bathrooms in the cabin, one in the master bedroom and one in back of the fireplace with a shower big enough to hold two people. Across from the shower is a separate lavatory.

In the hallway leading from the living area to the master bedroom are two double-sized bunks. The master bedroom with a queen bed has its own bath with shower. Upstairs are games and a TV with DVD player. The Cabin has Cable TV and Wireless Internet Access.

A Private Pond.

In front of the Cabin is a patio facing the pond. The patio has a table, adirondack chairs and a Weber Grill for barbecuing. The three quarter acre pond offers refreshing swimming. A rowboat is provided for fun. The grassy banks of the pond provide safe and easy entry into the water and is a great place to enjoy the sun on a hot day. A lovely screened gazebo graces the far shore.

Lots to Do Nearby.

For a good hike, you can take the Long Trail which winds it way through the back of Stratton Mountain. From the cabin, it is a pleasant hike or a short drive to a waterfall at Pikes Falls, a beautiful rocky place for diving, sun bathing and hiking as well as a cool dip. The water is very cold even in the late August. Within a few miles, up at the Stratton ski area or down in the valley, are good eating places, country auctions, fairs, antiques and within a half an hour's drive, concerts and summer theatre in Weston and Dorset.

Rental Seasons

The House can be rented by the week or by the night (min 3 nights) during the Spring, Summer and Fall. During the Winter, the Cole Cabin can be rented by the ski season.

About Jeremy Cole

I grew up in the Cole Cabin and the Cole House. Stratton was started by my mother, Malvine Cole, who was often called the Mother of Stratton Mountain, and a number of other people both local and from outside the state. I learned to ski on the hillside near the houses and at Stratton.

Why Jeremy Cole chose Stratton Mountain Area

The Cole Cabin offers an old style of vacation that is quiet, private and away from it all in the backwoods of Vermont, but it is also close to the Stratton Ski Area and other places of interest in Southern Vermont.

What makes this cabin unique

Quiet, private with old fashioned charm.

A 3/4 acre pond that has been recently restored with its own rowboat and access is a special part of the Cole Cabin experience. Young children are especially attracted to the pond with its many water creatures (frogs, salamanders, fish).

A brook flows on the back of the property.

If you like to hike, you can drive to the other side of Stratton and get access to the Long Trails's trail head as well as a trail that leads to the Stratton fire tower.

The Stratton Resort is very close, but you are not a part of it, so you get the convenience of being close, but do away with the noise and congestion. It takes seven minutes to drive up to the ski area.

Pikes Falls is two miles down the road, which means you can take a leisurely walk to it or be there in minutes if you drive down to it.

Manchester is 20 minutes away, the Vermont Country Store is another 20 minute drive. Brattleboro is 45 minutes away.

Cole Cabin

  • 4 of 5

Very well equipped cabin in a lovely part of Vermont. We enjoyed our stay very much.

For nature lovers, this is a wonderful cabin--and surprisingly, it has everything (in small spaces)!

2 bdrms, 2 baths, oven, microwave, internet, comfortable beds, outdoor grill, etc. Quite comfortable.

I would have loved a view of the mountains, but with that exception, the cabin was great!

We enjoyed Stratton mountain area hikes (very nearby), the golf course and practice range (very nearby), and restaurants in Manchester (1/2 hour drive), biking from Manchester around the valley (hilly, but terrific). Lots to do within a 1/2 hour radius.

I would recommend this to people who love nature, love Vermont, have a car, and would like a truly rustic log-cabin!

Great Stay!

  • 5 of 5

The property was just as described! Very rustic yet super cozy, on a nice quiet, country road minutes from Stratton. A highlight was waking up to a mom and baby deer running past the front yard our first morning there. The cabin is very dark inside and does not get a lot of natural light, however there are plenty of windows to gaze out of, which makes up for it. The owner is great and super attentive. Pet friendly is a HUGE bonus! This place made my weekend getaway possible as I was able to take the dogs with me and not worry about a pet sitter.
