About the Property
Cabin, 2 Bedrooms (MBR + Bunk Area), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)
Ski Season Rental.
In the Winter, the Cole Cabin offers authentic Vermont ski housing with a relaxed old-style character. It is a refuge from the resort, yet it is only a short seven minute drive away. The Cabin sits off a dead-end dirt road that is kept open year round by the town.
Quiet Vacation Spot in the Warmer Months.
The Cabin is located with the Cole House next to a private pond at 1700 feet on a quiet picturesque dead-end dirt road just below (one and one-half miles) the Stratton Mountain ski resort. Tennis, golf, horseback riding, and concerts at an outdoor shell are summertime features at the resort.
Rustic & Comfortable.
Warm and friendly, this is a cozy dwelling, comfortably furnished; everything is provided except sheets, pillowcases, towels and bath mats.
The one-person stand-up kitchen has a stainless steel sink, dishwasher, electric range, coffee-maker, microwave, toaster and a refrigerator. The log living room has a view of the pond and is cheered by a brick fireplace with an Avalon wood burning fireplace insert. Gas heat is available when needed. For dining, there is a locally made free form pine slab table.
There are two bathrooms in the cabin, one in the master bedroom and one in back of the fireplace with a shower big enough to hold two people. Across from the shower is a separate lavatory.
In the hallway leading from the living area to the master bedroom are two double-sized bunks. The master bedroom with a queen bed has its own bath with shower. Upstairs are games and a TV with DVD player. The Cabin has Cable TV and Wireless Internet Access.
A Private Pond.
In front of the Cabin is a patio facing the pond. The patio has a table, adirondeck chairs and a Weber Grill for barbecuing. The three quarter acre pond offers refreshing swimming and recreational (catch and return) fishing. A rowboat is provided for fun. The grassy banks of the pond provide safe and easy entry into the water and is a great place to enjoy the sun on a hot day. A lovely screened gazebo graces the far shore.
Lots to Do Nearby.
For good hike, you can take the Long Trail which winds it way through the back of Stratton Mountain. From the cabin, it is a pleasant hike or a short drive to a waterfall at Pikes Falls, a beautiful rocky place for diving, sun bathing and hiking as well as a cool dip. The water is very cold even in the late August. Within a few miles, up at the Stratton ski area or down in the valley, are good eating places, country auctions, fairs, antiques and within a half an hour's drive, concerts and summer theatre in Weston and Dorset.
The House can be rented by the week during the Spring, Summer and Fall and during the Ski Season in the Winter it rents out by the night (4 night minimum), by the week or longer.. For more info on the ski season, go to the Links page and visit the owner's website.

About the owner: I grew up in the Cole Cabin and the Cole House. Stratton was started by my mother, Malvine Cole, who was often called the Mother of Stratton Mountain, and a number of other people both local and from outside the state. I learned to ski on the hillside near the houses and at Stratton.
Why the Owner Chose Stratton, VT, USA:
The Cole Cabin offers an old style of vacation that is quiet, private and away from it all in the backwoods of Vermont, but it is also close to the Stratton Ski Area and other places of interest in Southern Vermont.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Quiet, private with old fashioned charm. Very close to the Stratton Resort, but not a part of it, so you get the convenience of being close , but do away with the noise and congestion. It takes seven minutes to drive up to the ski area. Guests often ski in the morning and then come home for lunch or drop their kids off in the morning and then come back for a leisurely day just hanging out or go snow shoeing and cross country skiing in the woods and fields nearby.
