About Janine

We live in Pioche and purchased this home specifically to renovate as a vacation rental for guests to enjoy our community. We did most the renovations ourselves, beginning in November of 2015 and finally getting it ready for guests in February of 2017. Darrin is a Police Officer for Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, and was raised in Lincoln County. Janine is a Professional Photographer.

Janine purchased this house in 2015

Why Janine chose Pioche

After searching and waiting for the right property to become available, we were able to purchase this 1932 home from the Granddaughter of the original owner/builder. It's perfect size and location were what we desired.

What makes this house unique

Pioche Highland Hideaway is located just steps away from where the town's Labor Day festivities take place. During most months of the year, you will have deer right in your back yard. They love to eat the peaches an apricots from the trees. The town of Pioche has many old western historic qualities. Just 175 miles (3 hours) drive from Las Vegas, 90 miles from Cedar City, Utah and 110 miles from St George, Utah.

The house was beautiful and so very clean.

Like, I stated the house was beautiful and everything we need was there. If it wasn't a single call to the owner and it was delivered. The added bonus was the wildlife in the back yard. I would give this rental Five Stars in my book. We enjoyed our stay. Bob Johnston and the gang.

What a great find in Pioche! So charming, inviting, immaculately clean, and well stocked with kitchen essentials and linens. We were completely comfortable and very much enjoyed our stay. We will definitely stay here if we're back in the area and highly recommend it.

Come stay in Pioche!!!

  • 5 of 5

Why Pioche? Because there is so much to do...if you like getting outside and having what my husband and I call " No Money Fun" . If you like driving on dirt roads the Mount Wilson Backcountry Scenic Byway starts right there in Pioche . You can stop at Spring Valley SP take a stroll around the lake then continue on to absorb scenery and solitude for the next 62 miles. Next day scoot down the road to Cathedral Gorge SP. walk up the wash to Miller point after exploring some pretty tight slot canyons. Kids paradise. South of Caliente is Kershaw Ryan SP. This is a true desert oasis. There is a very large spring fed "wading pool" for any age, person that wants to cool off or just sit under huge shade trees and enjoy the breeze. Echo Canyon SP has fishing and a hike that I will never forget...Ash Canyon it. This is our 22nd VRBO stay. This house won my heart when I saw on the web site they had luggage racks in each bedroom. A true cooks kitchen awaits you.Sadly wasted on me but they had brand new Kenmore microwave. Beautifully yet comfortably decorated home where every item is top of the line and quality. Every afternoon at dusk I would go outsid and gaze over to those mountains and count my blessings that I get to travel and see lesser know areas of these United States. Oh I forgot ...across street from house is a beautiful park and pool.yes there were towels to take to the pool....playground for kids large grassy area and picnic area. The best feature of this home is Janine and Darrin. They are available and local and there for you for and any info about the area . Our experience renting properties have always been meaningful if the owner is nearby. Feels like a soft security blanket. This couple are custodians of the earth because they take items that some may see as not useful and their ability to repurpose them is amazing...gets you thinking...Thanks yall for a memorable stay and y'all have a happy life and we hope to return...sooner than later.

Clean, cute, and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a three-night stay at the Highland Hideaway in Pioche, Nevada—we loved staying there and will make every effort to stay there again whenever we are going to be in Lincoln County (this was our second time in the area). My husband, our two daughters, and I were quite comfortable in terms of space, furnishings, and supplies. Janine, the owner, is very responsive and has thought of just about everything one could need while staying away from home. We wanted for nothing because the house is so well-supplied. We only ate out twice during our three-night stay and had everything we needed to make good meals (except for groceries, of course!).

Janine and her husband did a fantastic job restoring this old home—it really feels like a high-quality, modern home, and I raved about Janine's decorating abilities all weekend. They repurposed lots of the original material from the home and used it to make art that now brightens up the home (along with several gorgeous photos that I believe Janine has taken). The home is immaculate--very bright and clean. Because our cell phones didn't get good coverage in the area, we were very grateful to have good wifi at the house! The neighbors have a few dogs that barked when we arrived late the first night, and we worried that they might keep us up, but they quieted down after we settled in, and we didn't hear much from them for the rest of our time there. Not an issue at all.

We enjoyed the surrounding area as well--Pioche is a fun little town to explore with interesting old buildings, mining structures, a museum, and boot hill. There are many state parks within easy driving distance, but Cathedral Gorge was easily our favorite with many slot canyons to explore. We are already talking about the next time we will be heading down to the Highland Hideaway!
