Second bedroom has two twin beds and is adjacent to the second bathroom. Kitchen with an original Saarinen Tulip Table and tulip chairs. Full utility room. Visit the Inspiration Alcona website, a non-profit organization in Alcona County that puts on writers conferences and artist retreats at Lost Lake Woods, sponsors concerts and film events. We're also proud of the renowned Northeast Academy of Dance where local and international students study ballet, jazz & modern, with twice yearly performances. Nordic Sports in Tawas has outdoor gear and keeps the Corsair Ski trails groomed. Visit their website for local weather conditions, hiking in Huron National Forest, and their Bluegrass concert series.

About Helen Hierta

I am a writer, ceramic artist, and mother of four children.

Why Helen Hierta chose Northeast

This property has been in my family for over 30 years. It was originally run as a vacation resort "Cherokee Trails" by my stepdad, a Detroit auto designer, who purchased the property as an adult; he had great memories of vacationing here as a child. Over the years a portion of the property was sold, and the original guest cottages were combined into a single structure. When the opportunity arose to reunite the property we took advantage and, as they say, the rest is history.

What makes this house unique

The sky is always changing, the water reflects the moods of the seasons, and the shoreline goes from drama to calm within hours. It's never boring. There is a natural ecosystem on our beach. Last summer we had a kildeer nest. Deer, fox, pileated woodpeckers, heron, owls, eagles ... it's perfect here.
