Overview

About the property

Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 1-4)

Just outside Abiquiu, in the lush Canones canyon, close to an old Hispanic Village, sits a great cabin with a large peaceful porch and inspiring views. A great weekend and vacation get-away!

There are unique ancient Indian ruins on top of a nearby mesa. The tranquil canyon leads to one of America's largest preserves, the Santa Fe National Forest. Following the Canones Creek upstream you can enter a mountainous wilderness stretching from Cuba to Los Alamos with the magnificent Valle Grande in between.

In driving out this canyon there are awe inspiring views of Abiquiu Lake, the Piedra Lumbre, and the Cerro Pedernal, often painted by Georgia O'Keeffe who had her studio at Ghost Ranch, on the other side of the lake.

The O'Keeffe House in Abiquiu is open for tours from late March through November.

The Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, Taos, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs, all make great day trips. Chama with the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, Chaco Canyon Culture National Historic Park, Ghost Ranch. It is all 'just around the corner'.

This comfortable cabin has a full kitchen, a shower, a loft bedroom with a queen-size bed and a sleeper sofa (queen) downstairs in the living area for additional guests.

Wonderful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed staying in this cabin, it had everything we needed and more. The surroundings were peaceful, the views beautiful and the hummingbirds provided plenty of entertainment! The owners were friendly and helpful, they even provided us directions to hike the ruins, which was amazing! We will definitely put this place on our "visit again" list!

Beautiful peaceful cabin.

  • 4 of 5

Cabin was beautiful and mostly secluded. The lake and river are right down the road. Definitely bring food. They had nothing but salt and pepper. They did have all the basic cooking utensils.

There is a cute small grocery store but very expensive.

A little hide away

  • 5 of 5

I love coming back to this cabin. And this time I've brought a friend from east coast, she too had a hard time leaving. :) Cabin is well appointed, everything you need. Peaceful, beautiful location. Grace and Felix are absolutely lovely people! I will be back, again and again.

Canones Cabin is Paradise.

  • 5 of 5

We've done this lovely cabin twice for nearly a month each time over two years. It is our favorite "other" in the world. Comfortable, well made, lovely in look and scent (ponderosa pine logs and vigas!), and the porch is perfect for grilling, chilling, and watching the magic hour light on the valley mesas. Hummingbirds are constant visitors to many flowers and feeder. The views, from the porch, walks up the canyon, or from the little hills around the cabin are magnificent- including many breathtaking sunrise and sunset treks. Sure, the beautiful green "bowl" of the Village of Canones seems out-of-the-way, but that's the price of Heaven! Not far are Georgia O'Keeffe's Ghost Ranch and Abiquiu home, Bode's store, great hikes up painted hoodoo cliffs, into box canyons, along the gorgeous Rio Chama, and 30 minutes to Espanola; an hour from Santa Fe. Grace and Felix Valdez are great hosts, always ready to help, and are such caring, smart people- we felt like family. But, mostly, it's the Silence of the valley- the Peace of Canones Creek (and acequia) flowing by, the everchanging cloud display, and the lucid stream of the Milky Way over your head at night (so clear!) that keep you company- and heal all ills. Great kitchen, bath/shower. Comfortable bed. We had no trouble with the beautiful wooden, spiral staircase up to the bedroom, but some may need to use caution (not for kids)... that's the only cautionary. Otherwise it is stunning, peaceful and an incredible bargain. Very, very highly recommended!
