About Nikki Kendall

Nikki Horgan, owner and manager of NamiNori House.

Nikki Kendall purchased this house in 2004

Why Nikki Kendall chose North Shore

I designed and built this home (with the help of many many people of course). I love it and really put attention to details and comfort into it. We own the home directly behind it as well otherwise I would live in it myself! Enjoy.

What makes this house unique

The location and value is unparalleled here. You can walk to the beach, to town, to the river for kayaking. I have made every effort to make it your home, not just a vacation spot. We have bikes, surf and boogie boards, loads of amenities for kids, linens, towels, ping pong, everything you need for the beach, you name it. I am a full time resident of Kauai and am here to help out with whatever you need to make your stay memorable and comfortable. Aloha.

Magical Memories for our Family

  • 5 of 5

We visited Naminori House in the spring and had one of those "once in a family lifetime" stays. The house is well-equipped, comfortable, and so perfectly located to everything we wanted to experience. We did SUP up the Hanalei River and stopped at the Hanalei Dolphin for sunset happy hour, kids jumped off the pier, had some of the best fish tacos I can remember, went to town for shopping and groceries, and walked the bay every morning (and some evenings) on one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. And all without getting in our rental car once! It is busy at sunset at the beach park (I read lots of the reviews) but this was a plus to my crew who are 11, 13 and 9. The yard is massive and private and there is even a tiki bar. IF we wanted to be a part of the beach park fun we went there and if we didn't we hung out in the huge compound. We talked quite seriously about trying to buy this little slice of heaven. My only hesitation to return (again and again) would be how could we have that great of a time again!! A wonderful spot.

Want to give it a 5 star but....

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for a week May 2016. The layout was perfect for our family of 5.5. We were able to have our adult children in the main house with their baby while we enjoyed the separate master suite. The bathroom in the master was really small. The toilet paper holder had no where to go but in the middle of the room. And there was really no space to put toiletries - I had to keep it all on the shelves in the bedroom, just inconvenient. We kept the windows open and the breeze kept us comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked - nothing missing that we needed. And super clean also. There was a great supply of beach towels. The furniture in the living room was icky, but I have since been told it was replaced. The locations was perfect for access to the beach/pier. Sunsets were spectacular. I though parking might be an issue but it was not. Loved being so close to town and appreciated the bikes. Do not miss Tahiti Nui in town. We made use of the surf board using it as a paddle board on the river. We also used the cooler and some other toys so it was great to have those. The yard is huge with a really funky tiki bar. The lanai is awesome! We could sit and people watch all day. The seating was bolted to the ground so you could not move any of it and it was for 4 only which I found odd for a house that rented for 6.The location was terrible for noise. I expected traffic because of the parking lot and lots of people visiting the pier. But it was unbelievable! It wasn't the expected traffic, it was the constant burning out of the parking lot all night. We were jolted out of sleep at 2:00 am, 3:00 am, 4:00 am, 5:00 am - by beach goes who needed to let the world know they were leaving. We watched one evening, and the same truck came and went at least 4 times, fishtailing and showering gravel from the parking lot to the street for at least a hundred feet each time. We noticed the police there quite a few times. So sad but a result of the popularity of the area. The service we received regarding the booking and subsequent questions was outstanding. Immediate reply to all of my emails. Overall, the experience was excellent. Knowing the noise level now, I am not sure we would stay again unless the area was monitored better at night. It was just noise, we never felt unsafe. This issue is out of their control and not a reflection of the management of the house and it is the only reason I could not give it 5 stars.

Owner's Response: We enjoyed Debbie's family and are a bit sad to see this review as all items she mentions were dealt with immediately and we got an entire new living room set quite literally the day after they left (it was shipped in and arrived then). I discussed with Debbie and so it's sad to see the furniture mentioned here when she knew we had new ones! The older furniture was imported Italian leather. Expensive and custom. Kauai is a very weather rich place and sadly it takes its toll! But the moment we felt it needed replacing we did. was Hanalei has become much more popular over the years. Our spot is prime to the pier and beach. We always recommend if people want a more remote Kauai experience they go to Haena. Our location is central--10 seconds to the beach and pier and even on the movie tour. Everything is walking distance whereas Haena you must drive to town and restaurant and stores. We want everyone to enjoy their stay! And hope to please everyone. Any and all comments and suggestions are helpful as answered or done as soon as possible.

Way too short stay!

  • 5 of 5

It was a pleasure staying at NamiNori House. The location is SUPERB! The Kitchen is well equipped for anything we wanted to prepare. The layout of the house works well for 1-2 families or up to three couples. And the little extras Surf and Paddle boards, bikes, beach towels, umbrella, beach chairs, cooler, etc... Added to our enjoyment of our way too short stay.

I could and will go on.

Another review suggested parking the car and leaving it. One could do that, as the house is walking distance to the best shopping and dining in Hanalei. Even better is the proximity to the best of Kauai north shore, beaches, hiking, gardens...

Great spot great memories

  • 5 of 5

Had such a great time at NamiNori House. It's a great spot with young kids--right across from the beach so we could come home for showers and lunch and naps. The yard is enormous wiht a great little tiki bar. Kids had a ball. Wish we had had more time and hope to go back for a longer trip down the road.

Hanalei was wonderful, but the house didn't meet our expectations

  • 3 of 5

Hanalei is a wonderful spot! That being said, we were initially very excited to stay at this house because of the previous great reviews. We were expecting alot more for the price we paid. The house required maintenance (old furniture, burnt out bulbs, not very well stocked, etc) and the noise level we experienced was overwhelming. Yes, it was the busiest time of the year...many people and vehicles going in/out of the beach parking lot. Next time we visit Hanalei we will stay a few houses down the street to avoid the congestion that comes along with being right across from Hanalei pier parking lot.

Owner's Response: Very sad to read this review. We strive to make everyone's stay wonderful! And our ten solid years of returning and very happy guests lets us know that's the case. It simply isn't for everyone much as we hope to make that so! These folks booked on a discounted rate (our rates are the lowest on Weke Road for beach proximity and as such we remain booked for nearly 90% of the year). They subsequently added 2 people which we found out in corresponding emails with them (going over our maximum 6 people) and I attempted to cancel their reservation because we are specifically only set up for 6 people. There was much dialogue over almost two weeks explaining they would be more comfortable with 8 people in a bigger house. After they appealed to us to please let them come with their additional guests we agreed. I had more than 11 calls/emails/texts/requests from them in the first 24 hours (more than any other guests in a decade) and accommodated all their requests--even paying for expedited shipping for large salad bowls, whisk and rubber scraper (in fact I purchased and fed exed an entire new collection of kitchen utensils within 24 hours). We sent people down to bring extra fans, change lightbulbs (twice in one day on Christmas Eve) and I even accommodated a late checkout when they asked. Every request was met despite it being Christmas and even our neighbors went down to help them change lightbulbs that were provided. The only thing we didn't provide was their request for "shot glasses a martini shaker and a juicer." Our location is arguably the most popular spot on the island and as such is front and center to Hanalei Bay. This is discussed with all our guests prior to booking. Our guests love the convenience of being a stone's throw to Hanalei Pier, being able to walk across the street with kids and having access to the river and all the fun of the beach park within a moment's walk. I *always* encourage people looking for more privacy to go farther North toward Haena or south to Aliomanu areas if they are looking for a less active, central experience. We hope they are happy in their next house! Sometimes, when guests want a more concierge-type experience, a hotel is the best option.
