Property description

NEW! We just opened up two weeks in July 2016 that had been reserved for my family. They can't come this year, which means you can! And a repeat renter must go Out West to a family reunion this year, which means two more weeks are also available in August! Lucky you!

BEACHSIDE Cottage is your vacation home - not a condo, not on a busy street, and no roads between the cottage and Lake Michigan! Located dead center on Sleeping Bear Bay beach, the cottage came through the big August 2 storm unscathed, although we have trees down on the very back of the lot, which you can't see from the cottage! Beachside Cottage looks directly out at the two beautiful blue and white Manitou Islands. On the map, it is off of - not on - M-109, between Glen Arbor and Glen Haven in Leelanau County, Michigan. Approximately 35 miles from the Cherry Capital Airport, 5 miles from Camps Leelanau and Kohahna, 3 miles from the Homestead and minutes from the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.

4 1/2 hours from the Detroit area, and 6 hours from Chicago. Day Drives include Petoskey, Harbor Springs, and Mackinac Island are to the North. Beulah, Frankfort and Benzonia are to the South. More information on things to do and see in the area is available upon request.

This quaint cottage has two floors, with a 3/4 bath and two bedrooms above, having a full bed in one and a two twins in the other and a Stall shower. There are steep 10 inch stairs, 8 inch is standard. There is a rollaway on the screened-in, furnished front porch. Carpeted office and laundry room can house your port-o-crib for Baby or the porch bed.

Other features include walk half a mile down the wooded highway and treat yourself to an ice cream cone, as you watch the band on the outdoor deck at Boonedocks Restaurant. Rent a canoe for half a day and float down the Crystal River, just minutes from the cottage. Shop till you drop at the many gift shops and galleries in the area.

Climb the magnificent sand dunes at the hill climb, just 3 miles away. Take a sunset drive on the Park's scenic drive overlooking Lake Michigan from on high. Park yourself on the beach and watch the waves roll in. Build a sandcastle. Swim in the clear blue water. Evenings, put jigsaw puzzles together on the porch, or play board with your family at the kitchen table. Rent a movie in Glen Arbor and watch it at the cottage. Build a bonfire after dinner and roast marshmallows for s'mores as the sun sets.

Our renters are repeaters. That says it all.

ADDITIONAL RENTAL INFORMATION:
*Intergenerational sharing is welcome, however, multiple family sharing for the week is not.

Keywords: Beachfront Cottage on Lake Michigan

Summer, Weekly Sunday-to-Sunday rentals only in July and August. Minimum 3 nights otherwise. Sorry, I cannot respond to summer inquiries for less than a one week stay. Due to repeat renters, I only have a few summer weeks available each year. Now booking July-August 2016.

Owner info

Year Purchased: 1956

About the owner: I am a retired teacher, author, artist and composer. This was my grandparents' summer cottage. We had the one next door. As the family grew, they built a new one, we moved into this one, and my cousin's family moved in next door. Long story, but in 1999, I inherited the place, completely refurbished and winterized it for year round living. I have lived there ever since. Summers, I stay with my mother in Auburn Hills. I love my home. I think you will, too.

Why the Owner Chose Glen Arbor, MI, USA:
The location and the charm. The knotty pine interior I kept because it's so unique and old fashioned. The location - spot-on looking dead center out to the two beautiful blue and white Manitou Islands with the yellow sand dunes to the left and Pyramid point to the right just can't be beat. The beach is sugar sand, with some small semi-precious right along the shoreline--perhaps a foot or less. Sometimes they are more numerous than others--depends on the winter and the latest storm. The storms, suffice it to say, are magnificent. And the water...well. It can't be beat for summertime swimming. The new bike and hike trail is so close, you can walk to it from the cottage and it will take you five miles to the dunes and along the bottom of the dunes. Fab - u - lous.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
This is one of the very few homes for rent on Lake Michigan's Sleeping Bear Bay. Condos--yes, but not private homes. It's the location that makes this place special. That, plus the cozy charm of this place built by the owner's grandfather. Updated in 2004, but we kept the charm.
