House, 4 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 11)
Welcome to our beachfront home, the Bluewater Star. Our 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath home sits in the dunes on a half-acre lot only footsteps away from the beach. Decks surround three sides of the house and each bedroom opens up to a deck, giving everyone lots of elbow room and plenty of ocean views. A private walkway leads you from the back deck straight over the dunes to the beach.
The kitchen, bar and living room is the focal point of our home. A soaring ceiling and two-story wall of windows gives you views of the ocean from anywhere in the house.
The owners of the house both have a background in the hospitality industry and they know that to entertain properly one must have a great kitchen. Restaurant quality cookware, bar ware, utensils and beautiful platters, bowls and tableware make meal preparation and entertaining wonderfully easy and best of all fun.
Two of the four bedrooms are masters, each with a king bed, private bathroom and crib. One of the masters is on the main floor and the other master (along with the other two bedrooms) are upstairs. The third bedroom has 2 queen beds and the fourth bedroom has two sets of bunkbeds. The bottom bunk on one side is a double. These last two bedrooms share a bathroom. Another half bath is located on the main floor next to to the laundry room.
Across the street is a pier for crabbing, and fishing is everywhere. You can fish in the surf, in the bay, off a pier or deep sea with a charter boat. If you want someone else to catch your fish, just run over to the nearby seafood market for the catch of the day. If you don't feel like cooking, there are several wonderful one-of-a kind restaurants nearby.
Galveston, with its historic homes and local entertainment, is an easy and scenic 1/2-hour drive up the coast.
Even though summer is the most popular time of the year, the off season is a great time of year to come to the beach too. Beaches are empty, lodging is less expensive and days are typically sunny and warm enough that you can still dip your toes in the ocean. Nights may have a bit of chill in the air which is fun for bonfires on the beach. December is the time for family get-togethers and holiday celebrations and we like to celebrate too with a Christmas tree and festive holiday touches.
January and February are really the only months that are cold but even so, it's cozy inside where you can enjoy the view of the ocean from the comfort of the sofa next to a real fireplace. Relax and unwind with a good book and retreat from the world. Or bundle up and take a solitary walk on the beach where the only sounds are the waves and seagulls. Take a jog, explore the beach and work up an appetite so that when you get back you'll be ready to browse the internet or our cookbooks and learn how to make hearty dishes like cioppino, paella, stews, chilis and chowders. Recipes that take more time and patience than you usually have provide a very pleasant way to reconnect with family and friends.
Weekly rentals are 7 nights and are available year round. During the summer we only offer full week stays that go from Friday to Friday but off-season, we offer shorter stays with 3 nights being the minimum. Holidays are only offered for a full weeks stay and there is an extra charge for those stays. Prices on this site are strictly for family rental.
Weekend stays are from Thursday to Sunday or Friday to Monday. Check in is at 4 pm and checkout is 11 am. These times are sometimes flexible, depending on whether the house is rented before and after you. During peak season, weekend rentals will only be available as last minute bookings.
Well-behaved, short-haired dogs are accepted conditionally with prior approval and payment of $125 non-refundable fee per pet, two pets max. No puppies under a year of age please.

About Barbara Haney
In 2006, my husband and I were nearing completion of construction on our beach home when we discovered that our beautiful baby boy, by then almost two, was autistic. Our savings and extra income intended for the beach house mortgage vaporized as we began intensive therapies for our little one. We had decided to put the house up for sale when we stumbled across the vrbo website and an idea was born. What if we could open up our home to other families who enjoy the beach as much as we do? So, overnight my husband and I became managers of our beachhome-turned-resort rental property. And what a fantastic experience getting to know so many really terrific families. We've really enjoyed having the privilege to provide a place for other families to create their own memories while allowing us to create our own beach memories too. Bobby, now 12, is doing great. All these years of therapy have given us a child who can interact and talk and he can now tell us that his favorite place on this earth is our beach house. We give a heartfelt thanks to all the families who have stayed at our home and extend a warm Texas hello to all the families we have yet to meet. Cheers! Bluewater Star family Barbara and Mike Haney and sons Bobby and Jack

Why Barbara Haney chose Surfside Beach
Going to Surfside is like stepping back in time. There's only one road into town and one road out and not a single skyscraper or hotel chain. Restaurants are family owned and convenience stores close down in the off season. And it's been that way since I was a child coming here with my parents who would rent a beach house in Surfside for one fun-filled fantastic week every summer. Family from out of town would join us and we'd spend our days fishing, crabbing, swimming and eating delicious things. It instilled a life-long desire to carry on the tradition with my children. When we go down to the house, we invite all our loved ones to join us. Our caravan of cars pulls into the driveway and everyone scatters in different directions - little ones with their mamas scoot off to the beach with shovels and pails, the older kids go crabbing or swimming, dads go fishing and those who just want to relax head off to the deck with a book for a little relaxation. Hours later everyone congregates around the dinner table to tackle platters of fresh fried fish, steamed Gulf Coast crabs and chilled shrimp. Evenings are spent on the deck, listening to the surf and watching the night sky for shooting stars while fire flies blink in the dunes and the moonlight reflects off the water. At some point before bed, we'll rouse ourselves and head down to the beach, lanterns in hand, to build a bonfire in the dark. The kids love to toast marshmallows for sandy smores and once they've had their fill, we all head back to the house exhausted and happy and ready to do it all again the next day.
What makes this House unique
We understand that when you rent a beach house you are planning on spending most of your time either enjoying the waves or enjoying the home and we have done everything we can to make this the most comfortable and well stocked beach house you have ever been in bar none. A comment I hear frequently from my guests is that they are so happy to see such a wonderfully stocked kitchen. My husband and I are life-long foodies and our background is the hospitality industry. We met working at a restaurant in college, and we love to cook. The last thing we want to do when we're getting ready to come to the beach house is pack every single thing we need to cook a good meal, so it's imperative that our kitchen have everything that we might need. We think that you will like this too.

Perfect family vacation home
Two young families, one adult family of three and two retirees (grandparents) stayed for just under a week and loved it. Granddaughters first trip to the Texas coast and they loved the beach and water. Grandson's 2nd trip and loved the beach house, his own room (played in it but didn't sleep there - instead slept in Nana & Pepa's room!) and of course the sand and surf. We cooked all our meals in the furnished kitchen with rave reviews. Fun family time. This was our 2nd time to rent the house and we would do it again. A few minor comments during first stay were all addressed before our big trip including replacing a ceiling fan that made a small noise -- well above what needed to be done! Barbara was great to work with.
Beautiful! The pictures make it seem like a far walk out to the beach but it wasn't bad at all!
Everything was wonderful down to getting a phone call the day of check-in from Mrs. Haney. I really appreciated that. The private gazebo on the walkout to the beach was perfect for our needs since it was still quite cool out and no one in our group really wanted to actually get in the water. Nice touch!
My only complaint, which is very minor, was that the cleaning crew showed up at 10 am on the day of checkout which was scheduled at 11 am. We felt rushed as we were finishing the last of our packing and moving out. Only slightly annoying. Everything else was wonderful!
Hi there- so glad you all had a good time and I’m so sorry that the cleaning crew showed up an hour earlier than they should have. I’m dismayed to hear that for sure and appreciate you letting me know this happened. Hopefully you were able to take advantage of the early check to offset the frustrstion a bit. You all were delightful guests and we would love to have you stay with us again some time. Take care and happy travels wherever you go.
Great family weekend
We loved the house. It has plenty of room and the private walk over to the beach was great!
A comfy and homey retreat on the beach...
We had a wonderful time here! Two families of four: 4 adults and 4 kids (ages 9, 6, 5 and 4) with more than enough room! It was such a kid-friendly home, although there was some argument over the delightful “room under the stairs” amongst the kids 🙂. The kitchen was awesome! We were never wanting when it came to appliances, utensils, etc. Take it from two families that love cooking...
Because the beach was so accessible, the kids were able to get up, eat breakfast, and go to the beach until lunch. Then they started out there again until dinner. Plenty of amenities at the home for beach use. Oh—and we saw dolphins as well! Great time had by all. Barbara was readily available for any questions we had.
So glad you all enjoyed your stay as much as we enjoyed having you all stay at our home. Our guests are so important to my husband and I and a lot of effort goes into making sure our home is taken care of, everything works the way it's supposed to and that everything is stocked appropriately. We hope you come back and stay with us again someday, Barbara
Beautiful house with million dollar views!
Everything was wonderful! Best location by far. Walk out the door to the beach. Owners were great at putting instructions for use throughout the house and clear instructions. We are going to plan another trip again soon to this house
Hi Cindy - thanks so much for letting us know you enjoyed your stay. We very much enjoyed having you as our guests and look forward to hearing from you again. FYI, I have a facebook page called The Bluewater Star and on it I will post upcoming dates that I am discounting in an effort to get them filled. Thanks again for the lovely note, take care, Barbara
Quality, beauty, and right on the beach...terrific choice in Surfside!
Barbara's home lives up to the pictures, description, and more! If only the weather would've cooperated for our Spring break trip...
The kitchen is well stocked including many spices and water filter on fridge (w/ice-maker) and one other spigot. The slide-out pantry stands empty, waiting for your groceries.
Our kids had fun plying Alexa to play music and answer questions. Plenty of seating for meals, hanging out, and playing games invite much togetherness. Speaking of games, the downstairs master closet is loaded with them along with quite a few stacks of extra bed linens, high chair, etc.
The master jacuzzi is a great idea, but the brownish tap water does not make for an appealing bath! However, each bathroom had just about as many bath towels as cabinets could hold, as well as hand soap - a nice surprise. Three full plus the half bath was plenty.
Beds were all reported to be comfortable including the pillows. Two cribs plus the toddler bed in the closet under the stairs may come in handy for some families. Our small eight-year-old just manage to fit in the toddler bed and he absolutely loved the tiny space of his own.
Little touches such as a wealth of sand toys, a couple of boogie boards, a two-seater kayak, and a small pile of good wood for a bonfire added to the perfection. The big bottles of vinegar at the gazebo also came in handy for a couple of jellyfish stings. Outside seating was also plentiful, with some movable to the beach.
Overall, our trip was amazing, thanks in no small part to the wonderful owner! Barbara was quick to answer our questions about the electronic equipment and was extremely understanding and accommodating. We did our best to follow rules and take care of the home. She did her best to make us feel at home (and want to come back)!
I don't think you could go wrong with the Bluewater Star beach house!!
