Why they chose this property
Oak Cottage's location is a real bonus as so often properties listed as 'Stratford Upon Avon' would need a car to get within reach of the main town where parking can be a real challenge. The fact that the house is located on a quiet residential street (Hathaway Lane) - just a stone's throw from Ann Hathaway's cottage - visitors feel able to relax in a home from home rather than the more formal offerings of B&B's or hotels. The walk into town and all the main attractions is via Shottery fields; an expanse of grass where the only people you're likely to encounter are those making their way from town with a map in hand (in search of Ann Hathaway's cottage).
What makes this property unique
Other than the excellent location, the character and scale of the house make it a compelling proposition for large groups.
Oak Cottage is a traditional black and white Tudor house with authentic beams and a wood burning stove, an AGA in the kitchen (only lit during the winter time otherwise you are stiflingly hot!). It has roses around the front door, fairy lights on trees outside and a thatched roof on the adjoining garage. The main family room opens onto lovely lawns and a separate patio for outdoor dining. I don't present Oak Cottage as a 'show piece'; it is a family home to be lived in and enjoyed both inside and out. Friends and people who visit love it for its cosiness and warmth with all the hallmarks of a home lived in by a family that has grown (indeed the office still has the children's height pencil marks recorded year on year). There are games and books and toys and TV's of all shapes, sizes and formats. I like to think of Oak Cottage as a welcoming haven where people can come to relax, socialise, spend time together or just as easily apart (there are 15 rooms in total).... a welcome break from the usual day to day demands of most peoples' increasingly busy lives.
Other unique benefits are probably the scale and space for groups to be together but also apart to suit..... there is enough space for people to disperse or to gather in any of the main rooms as the occasion requires. Bedrooms are well equipped and comfortable with a mix of doubles and singles to accommodate most parties.
