WELCOME! Our family would like to invite you to share our special "home away from home", Spartina, named for the lowcountry marsh grass that we love so much. Spartina sits in a quiet cul-de-sac with marsh vistas at the front and back. Our screened porch affords a view of the Harbor Island beach which is an easy 7 minute stroll to Boardwalk Access #1. You can also look across the creek to nearby (less than 2 miles) Hunting Island State Park. From either porch, watch amazing sunsets while the shore birds fly over, heading to one of the various rookeries on Harbor. The beautiful, private beach on Harbor is a short walk or bike ride away. The Nautical Watch swimming pool is across the street. Or go to the community Beach and Raquet Club with its pools, playground equipment, tennis courts, fitness rooms, chipping green and bike rentals. Fish and crab from the local dock. During the summer nesting season, sea turtles may be seen depositing their eggs or watch in amazement as the baby turtles emerge from their nests and head into the ocean. And for the birdwatchers among us, Harbor Island has been named one of the TOP birding locations in the state.
We suggest that you take a look at www.harborislandoa.com for useful information about fun special events, nature talks and group exercise programs on the island. You might also enjoy www.beaufortsc.org to learn more about visiting the Beaufort area. Lots to do! Lots to learn!
Our house has an open floor plan - the living room area (with flat screen TV) and kitchen are connected by the eat-at island counter top. Or serve meals in the dining room with table and chairs for eight. In addition, the screened porch has a dining table with chairs. Our house offers four big bedrooms - two with twin beds and two with a queen size bed in each. There are two full bathrooms and an outdoor shower. An extra-large 75 gallon water heater means no one runs out of hot water! Washer and dryer. Free WiFi. There is also a huge Bonus Room upstairs that has three sets of bunk beds and a TV that is set up for playing video games. A great kids' retreat (not so comfy for adults). The enclosed area under the house provides storage for your bikes and any beach or fishing equipment that you may bring along. And, there's a ping pong table! Also, for your use we provide lots of beach toys, beach chairs and a gas grill.
*** The Harbor Island Homeowners' Association requires that each guest's vehicle have a Car Pass based on the number of nights you are staying. We provide you with one free Pass. We will need to purchase any additional passes for you, so please let us know in advance of your rental. Passes are $11.00 per night and will be available at the Gate when you arrive. We find it works best to communicate the Pass arrangements by texting or email and will be in touch with you to get this set up. ***
We do not have a golf cart. The Harbor Island HOA doesn't allow renters to have a cart, nor do they allow the owners to rent one for you. A ridiculous rule, but they're pretty strict out there. There are a few parking spots at the closest beach boardwalk (#1) or we find it convenient to drive folks and gear over there, drop them off, and then return the car to the house and walk the few minutes back to #1 access.
Beaufort, with its historic homes, shops and restaurants is a quick 30 minute drive. Grocery stores and shops on Ladys Island can be reached in about 20 minutes. Basic food supplies and essentials, as well as several eateries can be found just beyond the gate at Harbor Island - a few minutes drive or bike ride away.
We hope that you will enjoy our family's beach home as much as we do!
