We moved to Switzerland in 2001 and fell in love with Zermatt. In many ways, Zermatt is even more enjoyable in summer than in winter. The weather is great, the village charming, and the mountains beautiful. We also love the wild flowers and wildlife, It is not uncommon to see the small horned Chamoix (Gems in German) or much larger horned Ibex (Steinbock in German) or Maromots. Golden Eagles are reputed to be common in the Alps now, and are reputed in 2012 to have nested in the Zmutt valley. The Lammergeier (literally Lamb-vulture in German) also called Bartgeier (bearded vulture) is very rare - only about 500 pairs in the European range. But they are being reintroduced into the east of Switzerland, and I have photographed one (in spring 2012) between Zermatt and Zmutt - it is a huge bird - up to about 2.5m wingspan. The silhouette photo - it was very high - cannot be loaded onto this website, but I am happy to send to you if you are interested. We own our apartment as our holiday home and enjoy renting it to others to enjoy too.
Adrian. purchased this Apartment in 2004
Why Adrian. chose Zermatt City Centre
The quiet yet central location, with views of the mountainside make this a gem of an apartment. In this car age we forget how heavy a few bottles of wine and a shopping bag of food can be when one has to carry it far - and Zermatt is spread over quite and extensive area. Being able to pop around the corner for the bread or croissants for breakfast while the rest of the household is getting up is very pleasant and convenient. As is access to the transport systems to get up (or down) the mountains if you prefer not to walk up (or down). Cooking at home is enjoyable. There are also more than 50 restaurants in and around Zermatt - at all price points, and also plenty of bars. Supermarket prices are as for the rest of Switzerland. There is good shopping, a small alternative cinema (try to watch one of the charming old movies about Zermatt) and (we think public) tennis courts, become ice hockey rinks in the winter months.
What makes this Apartment unique
Around 29 of Switzerlands 36 mountains over 4000m occur around the Zermatt valley. And only Zermatt has the very photogenic (see if you can stop photographing it!) Matterhorn. First ascent by Whymper an Englishman, although that's a tragic story. The English association with Zermatt is a long one - visit the charming Zermatt museum, modern with a novel audio guide around old Zermatt - to understand more. There is even an English Church; St Peter's.

Fabulous apartment in a beautiful village
Adrian’s apartment is centrally located and is perfectly located to explore the beautiful village of Zermatt. The apartment itself is large and has all the amenities you need with three bathrooms, large bedrooms,a log burner and a long balcony overlooking the mountains. I can highly recommend this apartment and Adrian is very knowledgable about the area providing advice and tips.
Thank George, I look forward to welcoming you and your two boarding buddies next time, and hope you enjoyed the Zermatt boarding, and the Netflix in the evening to recover! Adrian
Best ski apartment in Zermatt!
Very, very nice, clean, tidy, Super location. Close to train station, grocery store, ski rental. Adrian sent info in advance that was extreamly helpful. Ski room was a great place to leave skis, boots, poles Could not do better for a ski week. We were there with our two grand daughters who each had their own room!
Thanks Alvan and family. I tried to figure out how 4 adults and two grand-kids allowed the two children to have their own rooms,in the three bedroom apartment. I imagine that one of them liked to sleep on the child bed in the little, and for a child, private corridor off the downstairs bedroom. Great, for the grandchild, and the parents! (There is just enough room there also for the baby cot.) Have a great trip back to Oklahoma! Adrian
Perfectly situated and absolutely great
We had 7 days in Adrian’s apartment and it was fantastic. Better than the photos! There were 5 of us - three teenagers included, and there was so much room for us all!
Kitchen very well set up if you want to stay in after a day of skiing. Comfortable living area and dining area was very Swiss!
So close to train station, ski hire places, ski lifts, restaurants and shops. Great supermarkets, wine stores, butchers and bakeries!
Adrian was a wonderful host. His instructions and information about Zermatt was up to date and extremely thorough.
As for Zermatt, perfection! Coming from Australia, we were blown away by the snow and length of runs. If you don’t want to ski, plenty of easy hikes which were great.
A visit to Chez Vrony is a must.
Book this place! We will be back. Thanks Adrian. The Crummy/Pentland’s
Dear Liz and family, Thank you so much for your splendid description of the charms of Zermatt and our apartment. I presume you are now en-route back to Australia and some sunshine: bon voyage! You will be welcome back to Zermatt anytime : summer or winter it is an extremely special place! best wishes, Adrian
Amazing stay and value in stunning Zermatt
If you are considering booking this property for your stay in Zermatt, please don't hesitate....as the slogan goes, "Just do it!"
Adrian's property truly feels like a home away from home and was the perfect accommodation for our week long stay in the beautiful village of Zermatt. This was not our first time visiting here, but we can say without reservation it was our best! Adrian's apartment certainly contributed mightily to this factor.
We were a party of 5, my husband and myself, our two sons and daughter in law. We were here to share the lovely village and do some (outstanding!) hiking with our family. We had previously stayed in some outstanding hotels but in all honesty they could not compare with the feeling of home that this apartment provides.
Plenty of space...we had the downstairs bedroom with its own bath and shower and access to the superb, large balcony. Amazing amount of storage space, fantastic water pressure. Very comfortable bed and we slept very soundly indeed! Our sons and daughter in law used the two upstairs bedrooms which share a large bathroom. In addition there is a half bath in the downstairs. Outstanding layout!
The kitchen was excellent with anything one could possibly want for cooking. I primarily fixed breakfast in and we ate dinners out, but if you prefer to eat in you will indeed find all you need in this well equipped kitchen. Three!!!! Ways to make coffee including a pod machine, drip coffee maker and a kettle! The dining area is absolutely lovely as is the large sitting area with very comfortable couches and chair. Huge furnished balcony with a view to the top of the Matterhorn!
The location is perfect, so close to the train station as well as the Coop and Migros for shopping....incredibly convenient. The building has elevator access as well, handy for luggage. Of course there are also amazing restaurants as well literally out the door to Bellevue. We appreciate the book that Adrian had put together and tried a few new spots that we hadn't tried before, with great dinners as a result.
I would like to mention that Adrian's communication throughout was simply, perfectly, amazing. You will never find better instructions and information than he provides for check in, location, etc.. In addition he was available easily if a question popped up. Super. We did not want to leave this Home away from home in Zermatt and have already recommended this spot to family and friends! Much Thanks to Adrian, we can't wait to return!
Wow, Margaret, that's a lot to live up to for future guests! I'll continue to do my best to assist everyone to enjoy Zermatt. As you know - it's an extremely special place. Thank you for staying: we look forward to next time.
Excellent accommodation with everything you need
Bellevue has everything you want for a trip to Zermatt. It is a short walk from the train station but in a quiet part of town. You have a fully equipped kitchen and the layout of the apartment is comfortable and convenient. The balcony has a distant view of the Matterhorn and close view of the valley slopes. The owner is very helpful in suggesting activities in Zermatt or responding to questions. A great place for your trip to Zermatt and highly recommended.
Thanks Roy, and again for your recommendation for the book " How the English Made the Alps" by Jim Ring: I am enjoying it greatly. Adrian
Comfortable, Cosy Appartment in a Fabulous, Central Location
If you're looking for a sleek, modern, minimal apartment, this one is not for you. However, if you want somewhere comfortable and cosy to chill-out after a great day of skiing, then I highly recommend it. The apartment is warm with good sized bedrooms and all the practical amenities you need. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking and the apartment is big enough for 6 adults to dine and relax comfortably.
It's conveniently located right in the heart of the town centre, one street back from the main street. (We noticed no street noise, despite its town-centre location.) It's a five-minute walk from the station which not only makes not arrival and departure days easy, but makes getting up onto the slopes a doddle. The ski-bus departs from right outside the Gornergrat station but we found the Gornergrat railway the quickest, most relaxing option to get up on to the mountain.
Whilst the décor may be a little dated for some tastes, we found the apartment to be charming and full of character - beautifully clean, warm and cosy. It had everything we needed. Piping hot showers and baths (with great water pressure) were appreciated by everyone after long days of skiing. We cooked, enjoyed family meals in comfort at the spacious dining table, watched films and played some of the board games provided. Very convenient for eating out too.
Adrian, the owner and host provided a wealth of useful information that was also most appreciated.
We certainly hope to return.......
Thanks Vivienne for your comments. We look forward to seeing you again.
Zermatt is THE premier resort of the Alps. The gold standard. Summer and Winter.
In summer the temperature can get up to around 30C and the mountain air, flowers and scenery are outstandingly beautiful. One can ride high, up or down, to a maximum of about12,000 ft (3800m), with three different transport systems and there are around 600km of well signposted walking routes, some away from all the lifts /underground/overground transport infrastructure.
For the more adventurous (can you walk 300m vertical in an hour, as needed, and walk for 5 hours? Do you have a 20-35 litre pack, and clothing if the weather turns bad?) the English owner, a member of the Swiss Alpine Club, can advise on making bookings at SAC mountain huts for very reasonable simple overnight accomodation, and simple meals. This is a wonderfully unique experience. Carry only your toothbrush, and bad weather gear - just in case.
For all, one can easily enjoy walking the mountains and there are plentiful places to stop for a light or not so light lunch with or without wine or beer, from simple rustic places to real gourmet.
For the less adventerous, one can get up to 3800 m (12,000 + feet) without any strenuous walking, and still enjoy many of the sightseeing benefits. June and July are best to see the mountain flowers, and by end August the nights are getting cooler - days still warmer - and winter is on the way.
May and September are rather in-between-season months (winter and summer), and the place is quieter.
October, November skiing is possible on a wider area than just the 20Km of pistes on the glaciers available in high summer.
There are no cars in Zermatt, only a few electric taxis, and a few horse drawn carriages. Helicopter tours and paragliding can be arranged. There is a creche for very young children if needed.
All visitors arrive by train, If coming by car one has to park in Taech and take the 11 minute shuttle train ride to Zermatt. If coming by train from an airport, booking your tickets before you arrive may be cheaper. The owner will assist you. From Zermatt Station it is less than a five minute walk to the apartment, and the owner provides easy to follow illustrated directions.
The apartment is very central yet faces the mountains and is quiet. All the restaurants and bars and shops are within walking distance.
