About this property

Charming Barn Conversion with Forest & Sea Views

Experience a blend of Yorkshire hospitality & beautiful countryside in this charming cottage. Just steps away from peaceful footpaths leading to woodland walks. Just a short drive to the bustling towns of Whitby & Scarborough with numerous activities, bars and restaurants. Sea views & unrivalled stargazing (situated in one of only 19 Dark Sky Reserves in the world) it really is a special place. Wether you want to relax & escape or prefer an active holiday, this could be the perfect place for you!

Woodpeckers Cottage is a modern barn conversion that sits within the boundaries of Silpho Brow Cottage, part of an old farmstead which dates back to the 1700’s. The cottage has views of the sea, open countryside and forest. It offers near level access with ample parking space. There is immediate access to a bridleway from the private drive and this leads to many other footpaths and forest tracks. From the cottage windows you can see an abundance of birds that have been fed from the garden for many years. Deer, badgers, hares, rabbits, foxes and bats are often seen on the approach to the cottage. Birds visiting the garden are varied and include Spotted Woodpeckers ( there are currently 3!) Chaffinch, Bullfinch, Robins, Yellow Hammers, Magpies, Jays, Pheasants, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Long Tailed Tit, Dunnock, Wrens, Collared Doves, Hawks, Buzzards, Sparrows, Barn Owl and, at some times of the year there are the talented Starlings who perform wonderful murmurations. There is very little light pollution at the cottage which allows guests to watch the most amazing Moonrise’s and star filled skies.

More than excellent
As hosts David and Jackie are tremendous in their efforts in every detail. Welcomed as if we had been friends for years (we will be) all information given without overload, so keen to pass on their wealth of knowledge of the local area for which they care so much. Oh and the accommodation was superb! The local walks are sublime for adults and a real doggy heaven

Beautiful and Relaxing
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Woodpeckers Cottage. Jacqui and Dave are friendly and made us feel very welcome. The cottage and its surroundings are beautiful and the local woods and walks make it perfect for a stay with a dog. Its location also makes it ideal for visits to Scarborough and Whitby. We hope to be back in future.

Small but perfectly formed
Lovely little barn conversion. Very well equipped. The barn sits in a wonderful location with fabulous views out to sea. Jacqui & David are fabulous hosts. The homemade cake was a delight and lovely touch. We’d only change 2 small things.: a bigger bed (double feels awfully small!) and a later check out (10:00 was too early for us!) otherwise wonderful stay and hope to return.

True country lovers, we have lived in our little cottage near Scarborough for 20 years with our dogs, cat and horses. We walk and ride the different footpaths and bridleways everyday and know Scarborough town and it’s surrounding countryside and beaches very well. Whilst staying at Woodpeckers we will happily point you in the right direction for wonderful coastal, countryside or forest walks in and you are welcome to borrow an ordnance survey map to keep you on the right track. I love baking, bread making and also make jams with wild bilberries, wild raspberries and blackberries too. I always bake a welcome gift for guests at Woodpeckers Cottage. We feel very privileged that we can share these beautiful and special surroundings with our guests. From our reviews it seems our guests enjoy it too!
