House, 4 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 8)
Our custom built home is located in Killington on an acre of land, on a paved town road with other vacation homes. A second story has been added to make it bigger and even better.
The house now has a large kitchen-dining area on the first floor with a 24' cathedral ceiling and a large new Vermont Castings wood stove. Also on the first floor are 3 BRs, 1 &1/2 baths, an indoor sauna, and a shower room for two. A 'sun burst' pattern of antique skis and bamboo poles is displayed on one wall, with more antique skis and snowshoes displayed on other walls.
The new second floor has a bedroom, full bath, a living area which extends the length of the house (40') and includes a sleeping alcove with a Murphy bed. There are three sofas , several chairs and a recliner as well. The living area affords a winter view of the Green Mountains beyond the trees. A sliding glass door exits onto a large deck which descends to another deck facing the woods. The living area extends 17' into the house to a balcony overlooking the first floor dining area. The outdoor hot tub seats 4-5 comfortably, and is located on the upper deck.
The house is a five minute drive from the most popular lift areas, restaurants and night spots at Killington.
Summers are wonderful at Killington. Hike the Long Trail, take the lift up to the top of Killington with your mountain bike and ride the trails down, golf, swim, play tennis, or sit on the deck of the The Foundry, a great restaurant on the access road, and watch the sun set. If you're really feeling lazy, just sit on our deck, and listen to the breeze stir the leaves in the trees. In the evening, light a fire in the chiminea on the deck, and sit back and watch the flames, or look up and count shooting stars.

About Thano Schoppel
I am a retired New York City teacher, and my wife is a retired nurse.
Thano Schoppel purchased this House in 1980
Why Thano Schoppel chose Killington
We bought the property when we started skiing at Killington in 1968, and built our house in 1979-80. We added the second floor in 2003 to make room for our growing family.
What makes this House unique
When we were thinking about what kind of vacation house we wanted, we made the decision to make the living areas as large as possible. The location of our house makes it possible to get to the slopes and area nightlife in a matter of minutes, and yet allows for the kind of peace and quiet that a condo can't compete with.

Great House - Great Location
I booked this house with a group of friends for a long weekend in early February and then again with my family in March and had a great stay both times. The house is comfortable with plenty of room to spread out and is a short drive to the Killington Road restaurants and the Ramshead and K1 base areas. Also, the hot tub and sauna deserve mentioning--both were great for unwinding after a day on the slopes! Thano was quick to respond to questions. I would definitely recommend staying here and plan to book again in the future.
We are always happy that our renters enjoy our Killington house as much as we do.
Great location, big house, fun weekend
The house was everything that we expected. The pictures are very accurate, and the only thing that I would say is misleading is that the house is actually much bigger than it seems. The pictures of the living room don't do it justice, it is very big and spacious.
It was tough for me to decipher the layout of the house from the images so here is a breakdown:
The entire house is essentially an open floor plan. The downstairs has a dining area, a seating area around a nice fire place, and a kitchen, as well as 3 bedrooms, 1 with a bathroom, and 1 bathroom in the hallway. The ceilings are vaulted and the 1st and 2nd floors are just one open area. Upstairs is the living room, which has 1 bedroom of of it and 1 bathroom. The jacuzzi is located on the second floor second.
The house is definitely older and shows signs of use, but that is to be expected. The couches are not extremely comfy, so I would recommend bringing an air mattress instead of relying on the couch to sleep. Also, one of the twin beds was very uncomfortable and the person had to put down extra blankets and sheets to not feel the springs.
The walkways were poorly shoveled and the outside deck was completely frozen over with several inches of ice.
This might sound like complaints, but for us it was fine. We were a group of 22-24 year olds using the house for a ski weekend. I wouldn't come here with my parents, but I would recommend it to anyone who is just looking for a big fun house to stay in that is super close to the mountain.
I'm glad had an overall good time at our house. in response to his review, we have replaced both twin mattresses with memory foam mattresses. We have a plowing and shoveling service, but it has many customers, and can't always get to our place first. We now have a container of sand in our entry room for our renters to use if things get icy.
Great home, well furnished and everything went as expected.
Just be careful of the driveway when it's icy. Cars may have a hard time getting out.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely house. The owner, Thano, responded in a very timely manner when we had questions. We had a nice snowfall while we were there. I would suggest leaving the cars, as we did, in the upper parking area when a large snowfall is predicted so the driveway can be completely plowed. We were able to dig the cars out in the upper parking area but there was a sheet of ice under the new snow. We waited until the plow came and spread dirt for traction. We bought two containers of calcium chloride at the local store for the steps and upper part of the driveway for the ice. It really wasn't sufficient. Perhaps, next time, Thano could provide a large bag of calcium chloride to handle the ice. We would definitely consider staying at this house again.
Vermont winters! Snow and ice. There is now a large can of sand in our entry room for our renters to use if the plow and shoveling service doesn't get there first thing.
Great house, great location.
Close to the mountain
It was spacious & had lots of natural light but the cabin was not very clean (bedrooms were dusty with cobwebs too). We were especially pleased with how close we were to the mountain and the owner was responsive and sent all the detailed information prior to our trip. We enjoyed spring skiing with warm temps in February, this ski season was too short this year!
