About John and Kathy

We are married and in our youthful 60's :-) We love to explore Western North Carolina, drive the Blue Ridge Parkway, hike the trails, try new restaurants or return to our favorites ... we love this place!

John grew up in Florida, is a Vietnam war veteran, has traveled extensively, and is a retired federal officer. Kathy grew up in Colorado and is a licensed minister, director of a thriving Community Services ministry, and the church administrator at Foster SDA Church in Asheville.

Both Serenity House and Paradise Cottage are on the same property. We live next door in the basement apartment of Paradise Cottage (the upstairs is a 2 bedroom 1 bath vacation rental), and frequently access storage in the walk-out basement of Serenity House.

You will enjoy your privacy in Serenity House. However, should you need us, we are readily available by phone or text.

John and Kathy purchased this house in 2009

Why John and Kathy chose Leicester

Asheville is one of the prettiest, most unique and interesting cities in America and the mountains around here are absolutely gorgeous. It would be difficult to find an all around better place to live or visit.

When we found this property we were impressed by how remote and peaceful and epic the setting is for only being a 15-20 minute drive to Asheville. The only part about this property is we don't like to leave because it's just so nice up here!

What makes this house unique

It really is a million dollar view. Sometimes when we are out on the porch or in the field and the sun is setting I wonder how we got to be so lucky to live in such a place. It reminds us of some iconic Japanese mountain retreat or a vale in the Swiss Alps.

We hope you will enjoy it too!

Awesome Autumn Abode !

  • 5 of 5

Our family enjoyed every aspect of this gorgeous mountain getaway! The owners of Serenity Mountain make a special effort to ensure that their guests will have a wonderful experience. They meticulously maintain this fantastic home and beautifully landscaped grounds.

The views from the front porch are of the wooded mountain ridge that lines this beautiful serene valley. We felt that we were in the midst of the western North Carolina mountains but yet were only a short 20-minute drive from downtown Ashville.

The interior decor and color scheme was stunning, as well as warm & inviting. Windows on all sides allowed you to enjoy the beautiful landscape even from the inside. The open floor plan provided plenty of gathering areas for dining, playing games or relaxing. All 4 bedrooms, as well as the loft sleeping spaces were very comfortable.

The exterior grounds were stunning with blooming roses, hydrangea and other fall flowers. Outdoor pool, gazebo, fire pit and hot tub were a few steps from the lovely interior spaces. Our small grandchildren loved the tree swing and exploring the yard as well as plenty of toys & games in the loft and child's bedroom.

If other potential guests are searching for the perfect blend of mountain scenery and easy access to all that downtown Ashville has to offer, then they don't need to search any

further - Serenity Mountain is perfect! Our family will definitely plan future visits to Serenity Mountain!

Incredible Weekend Away - Serenity Mountain Had Everything We Needed

  • 5 of 5

Serenity Mountain proved to be one of the best rental experience I've had. We very comfortably slept 12 and never ran out of bath towels, pool towels or paper products. The hot tub was clean and in great condition and the instructions on checking-in and checking-out were concise and very helpful. We hope to book it for another weekend in the future.

Beautiful Home

We thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend stay at this lovely home. Leicester is located within a 20-minute drive to downtown Asheville. The home is extremely clean with everything you could need. Our kids loved the outdoor area, swings, and hot tub. We would definitely stay here again!

Perfect Weekend

Wonderful weekend with 12 people. Everything was wonderful other than some spotty internet service which was fixed halfway through the weekend.

Beautiful House! Perfect locations for a weekend getaway with the girls!

  • 5 of 5

I planned this trip for a friend’s Bacherloette party & it was the perfect stay for us! We cooked meals at the house and the house had everything we needed as far as kitchen appliances, tools, etc. The owners were awesome to work with. We all want to go back sometime in the summer when the pool is open! Highly suggest this place for families and big parties!

The property is beautifully located with lovely views of the surrounding mountains and valley.

Our family of 12 stayed here for the Thanksgiving weekend. The house is spacious and has a well equipped kitchen. The only downside was that there is no bathroom on the second floor. This made it a little inconvenient for the family and a few grandchildren who slept upstairs. The location allows for a 20 minute drive into Asheville and we enjoyed hiking in the Biltmore Forest. Kathy was very responsive to an issue we had with the microwave not working and we got the problem resolved. The house provided a nice getaway for a family get together and I would recommend it to others.
