Even though listing details are provided, questions I've been asked. YES, the caboose has a fully functional, tricked out bathroom, in the silo adjacent to it (see photos). YES, the caboose has Air Conditioning & Heat, with Heat only in silo. YES, there is Hot Water in the bathroom. YES, there's not one but TWO HD LCD televisions with full DirectTV line up of channels, along with Netflix and other streaming services. In other business - No more than 2 adults, TWO NIGHT MINIMUM, no children, no pets, no smoking, no smokers, no discounts ever given. NO exceptions ever! I WILL NOT RESPOND if you write asking for exceptions. ---- Now the good stuff: Located just one mile from fabulous Lake Burton, our 1929 vintage C&O caboose has just undergone a top-to-bottom restoration and upgrade, with shades of the luxury Pullman cars of yesteryear. No detail was ignored to allow for a truly unique getaway experience. (Figure of speech. The caboose does not actually go anywhere) Though located adjacent to our also-historic general store-turned antique store, Black Bear Creek Antiques, you will have lots of privacy and space to call your own; private entrance, dedicated parking, waterfall and mountain spring creek just 20 feet away, and easy access to great restaurants (Five of the Top 10 Chefs in GA have restaurants within 10 miles of here) and shopping in nearby Clayton, and all the natural wonders the area has to offer. There's even a working organic vegetable farm just across the road!
Neat Authentic 1929 Caboose in beautiful area!

Very clean. Plenty of privacy. Great location.
We had a great weekend. The location is perfect and is close to many beautiful sites. It was fun to stay in a different setting. The silo bathroom is really great and, even though it’s outside, is just a few steps from the caboose. Comfy and cozy for a weekend stay. Jim did a great job putting it all together with some really nice little touches. We highly recommend!
Thanks a million for your kind words, Catherine! I worked very long and tirelessly restoring the caboose, and continue to add some of those touches you mentioned after each and every guest. I just hung up a vintage Chessie System map from 1973, will soon add a stunning 1943 Pennsylvania RR calendar, and for xmas I am getting a third Adlake caboose lantern for the exterior! The fun never stops!! Glad you liked it, and please come again, and see all the improvements first hand! Jim
So happy we went!!
At first I was a little hesitant to book the caboose when my husband and I decided to spontaneously take a weekend getaway to the mountains. But my husband loves tiny houses & we both love an adventure, so his enthusiasm for sharing this new experience won me over. I’m so glad it did! It really was a unique, and cozy experience. I felt totally at home & comfortable! I was concerned about having to go outside to the bathroom, but I absolutely loved it! It added just a little bit of excitement & even more fun to the whole experience.
We can hardly remember all the hotels we’ve stayed in before, but we will never forget the caboose in the mountains!!
Thanks Jim! We will be telling all our friends about this magical experience and We shall return!
All Aboard!! ChooChoo!!
Thanks so much Zan for your visit, and for all the nice things you've said here about the experience! We both enjoyed meeting you and talking with you both. Bolstered my hopes for our country's future, to be honest. Love the idea of your teaching students in China with the caboose as your remote classroom. I made a FB post about it on the Black Bear Creek Antiques page, as well as my own timeline. If you should look at it, I accidentally misspelled your name with ji instead of ja. Tried to edit right away, but unable to for some reason??
We've had lots of very nice people stay with us in the little red caboose, and you guys were among our favorites, for sure. So happy you came!
Please do come again. And since you can work remotely, weekdays are fine, too.

Charming place to visit and stay
We loved Clayton and the caboose was beautiful. We took lots of pictures. One of a kind experience. Our host was extremely gracious as well. Make sure you check out the antique shop while you're there.
We had a great time staying at the Caboose! It truly was a unique experience....something we will not forget very soon, that is for sure! If you want a fun experience where you will feel like you have sort of stepped back into time of the days where people traveled by train, then this is for you! The little red caboose was exactly that....it is parked near an antique store and you can picnic at an outside table or hang out around the fire pit. A trip into town is worth the short drive and you can choose from numerous activities such as hanging out listening to mountain music, shopping, there is even a drive in movie theater! We went on a trail ride at nearby stables and hiked to nearby waterfalls. Like I said, this is a unique experience and I would highly recommend it! My guess is that fall foliage would be breathtaking....and if you were lucky enough to be in the Caboose during a winter snow, then you would have to consider yourself very blessed! A ticket to board the Caboose should not be passed by....If you are looking for a once in a lifetime experience, I say, "All Aboard"!!!!
Hey, Joanie! That was a nice review indeed!! Thanks for coming, and your inclusion of activities such as horseback riding and the drive-in movie will be included in my pitch to guests in the future. Thanks for everything.
Speaking of fall colors, for some reason, Nov 5-15 are still open, and that's likely to be a great time for great color. If you wanna come again, or know someone that would enjoy the place, please give it some thought!
Love this place! Great job by the owners on restoration! Would definitely recommend!
Thanks for taking the time to review my little red caboose! Hope we'll see you guys again someday!!
Absolute gem! Unique. Beautifully and lovingly curated. Wonderful hospitality.
There just aren't enough superlatives to describe this amazing place. If you're looking for a unique AND comfortable place to stay in the mountains of NE Georgia, this is your place. The level of detail that the owner has curated in every facet of the indoors and outdoors of this adorable little B&B is mind-boggling! The bathroom is a work of art! It is beautiful workmanship and totally modern. I was feeling apprehensive about what a bathroom in a silo would be like. My mind was blown! It's more modern and stylish than our bathrooms!
- The entire facility is a combination of modernity (including WiFi and cable TV) with extraordinary antiques that is tasteful and beautiful.
- AND, on top of the outstanding facility itself is the wonderful friendliness and hospitality of the owner.
Treat yourself to an outstanding experience!
(Nope - in case you're wondering, this isn't a paid advertisement. We found this place completely by accident. We'd never met the owner before. This review is 100% the gushing accolades of a couple who loved every minute of our stay.)
Thanks a million, Freya! I enjoyed having you two here on the property, and a stellar review such as this is a great bonus for me. So good to have people appreciate the work done on this little gem of a caboose, and to notice the madness in all the details. Please come and see us again. Lots more hiking and waterfalls in the area you've yet to touch on! PS I appreciate your suggestion, and I plan to implement the practice first chance I get!
No more than 2 adults, no children. No exceptions.
