It is situated on the lovely banks of the River Yeo and is surrounded by gorgeous, unspoiled countryside. Sherborne is a great spot for a day of touring or a peaceful afternoon stroll. It is probably best known for its lovely abbey and two majestic castles, one of which is relatively "new," only dating back to 1594 and possessing superbly planted grounds. The gorgeous Stourhead mansion and grounds and the magnificent Dorset Heritage Coast are both accessible by short drives, while the Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton in Somerset, which features breathtaking displays of historic aircraft—including Concorde—is only across the border. A great place for the whole family.
