Holly Cottage - Beautiful Country Cottage Sitting at the Foot of the Ochil Hills

A family friendly cottage for a relaxing and peaceful holiday. Holly Cottage has an open plan living area with the kitchen, dining and sitting room which all flow into one another. The living area has two large windows which look out onto the fields which are home to our Highland cows and sheep. The master bedroom with shower en-suite is located on the ground floor with views up to the Ochil Hills. The upstairs floor comprises of a main bathroom with bathtub and a triple bedroom. There is also a lovely wee nook at the top of the stairs where you can sit and read a book or just take in the views of the hills behind. You might even see a Roe deer.

The best vacation rental we have stayed in. It was close to Stirling and within walking distance to shops, parks, and hikes. We enjoyed the sheep and coos. So clean, comfortable and quiet.

Wonderful Stay

Very well equipped cottage. Beautiful setting, peaceful and a great location. Stirling and The Wallace Monument close by. A good number of markets close by. Our host Laura was a gem, quick responses to questions.Lots of room and quite comfortable.

We had a really very nice stay. The cottage is very clean and equipped with everything you need. A big thank you for the welcome greeting from Laura. She was always available and communicative for any questions. The location is rural but very well situated for making excursions and going shopping. We would love to come back.

Stay at the Holly Cottage, Alva Scotland

As this was our first trip to Scotland my wife and I were uncertain what to expect from a rental property. We reviewed several properties online that were located in the general area we were planning to visit and selected the Holly Cottage near Alva based on the cottage description on VRBO and previous reviews given. I am very pleased to advise that the cottage was everything we were hoping for and we enjoyed our 8 night stay there very much. The description posted of the property was completely accurate and Host Laura was wonderful and did everything possible to insure we were comfortable and our needs were met. We highly recommend the Holly Cottage to anyone looking for a quiet relaxing vacation property in this beautiful area of Scotland.

Wonderful cottage in a perfect location

We loved our stay at Holly Cottage. The space was perfect for us (2 adults and 2 children) and the location was great. We loved sitting at the dining table and admiring the view of the Highland cows in the field. It was a great spot to easily get into Stirling and easy to get to Edinburgh (we took the train) and Glasgow. Laura was a fabulous host and gave some great recommendations for places to eat. We loved our stay so much we’ve already booked to stay again.

Nettes Haus, aber kalt/Nice House but cold

Das Haus bot den Komfort, den wir erwartet hatten, mit Ausnahme der Heizung. Die funktionierte leider nicht, so dass das Haus am Morgen kalt und ungemütlich war. Eine Anfrage an die Vermieterin wurde leider nicht beantwortet. Mit einer funktionierenden Heizung kann ich das Haus jedoch empfehlen. The house offered the comfort we had expected, except for the heating. Unfortunately, it didn't work, so the house was cold and uncomfortable in the morning. Unfortunately, a request to the landlord was not answered. However, with a working heating system, I can recommend the house.

Der ideale Ausgangspunkt für Golf + Whisky

Laura + Familie sind ein sehr angenehmer Gastgeber. Wir haben den Aufenthalt im Holly Cottage genossen. Es ist alles sehr sauber und ordentlich, es ist von allem ausreichend vorhanden und wenn man etwas benötigt, wird sehr schnell geholfen oder man kann alles in Alva und Umgebung kaufen. Die Schotten sind ein sehr angenehmes, lustiges und entspanntes Volk, es macht immer wieder Spaß hier zu sein und man wird sofort in die Gemeinschaft aufgenommen. Durch die Ruhe war es für uns 4 ein sehr entspannter Urlaub, den wir sehr oft zum Golf spielen genutzt haben, da es hier Top Golfplätze zu sehr moderatem Greenfee in der näheren Umgebung gibt. Wir können das Holly Cottage, Laura + Family und den Ort + Umgebung wärmstens empfehlen. Wir kommen bestimmt wieder.

Perfect

The cottage was a perfect fit for our family. We had plenty of room for my wife, myself and our three daughters. The location was so perfect. We stayed for two weeks and never had to drive more than an hour to all our destinations. Laura had everything ready for us and is just up the road if we needed anything.

Better than excellent

This place is exceptional. Very clean, cute, roomy, comfortable. Nice little patio in front. She left milk, tea, coffee, and cookies. The location is very close to Stirling and a half hour from a park and ride to go into Edinburgh. Plus, there are stark hills in the back, Highland cattle in the front, lanes to walk on and beautiful views. One of our favorite rentals ever. We wish we would have stayed longer.

This place was a real delight. Comfortable, quiet, well appointed. Decent food and grocery options nearby, and quick access to Edinburg via the trains. The Scottish highlands literally start at the cottage's back door. We would definitely stay again.

My name is Laura and I stay on the family farm with my husband and kids. I run the cottages as well as helping out my husband with his hunting shop and looking after our brood of Labradors and Cocker Spaniels. Our daughter & son help out with everything too as being on a farm isn't just a job but a way of life. My Mum & Dad live on the farm too so there is plenty of us around should you require anything.

Derfor valgte værten dette overnatningssted

The farm is a working arable farm which we took over in 1983. We have a small herd of Highland cows which you will be able to see grazing in the fields in front of the cottage. The family has lived in the Hillfoots for four generations and I feel lucky that my children have had plenty fresh air and freedom growing up in the countryside.

Derfor er dette overnatningssted unikt

Living at the bottom of the Ochil Hills is fantastic as you can walk out your door and head up the hill for a hike. The views from the top are amazing and on a clear day you can see for miles. We are also well located for taking a trip to Glasgow or Edinburgh which are around 45/50 minutes drive. However its nice to come home from the city to a relaxing and peaceful wee cottage.
