Glacier View Cottage is conveniently located only 1/2 mile off of Highway 2 and a short 4 minute drive north from the Port of Peigan/Carway border crossing. This is a great location to take advantage of both Waterton and Glacier National parks. We are located on a working ranch with incredible views of the Rocky Mountains, especially Chief Mountain. Our ranch has been featured on multiple Wildlife documentary films. ( Wild Canada, Striking Balance, Sharing the Range) Our family friendly cottage is a peaceful retreat, a short distance away from the more crowded park areas, yet still close enough for easy access to the tourist attractions on both sides of the border.
Our cottage is a cozy 1960s farmhouse, which we are continually updating. The main floor has 3 bedrooms, a bathroom with a tub and handheld shower, a well stocked kitchen and a cozy light filled living room. Perfect for relaxing after a long day of hiking or sightseeing. The basement has a vintage inspired play room, with lots of space for kids to play, as well as a bedroom with a double and single bed, a bathroom with a shower and laundry facilities. We have a peaceful treed yard to relax and play. Our brand new natural gas BBQ will allow you to enjoy fresh air meals, while enjoying the views and getting a glimpse of ranch life. A playground area is available in a shared space with the host family, with monkey bars, sand box and trampoline. These are to be used at your own risk. We also have a hammock to relax in and a fire pit area which can be used when weather conditions are ideal. Because this is a working ranch, with life stock and machinery, we ask that you stay in the yard area for your safety unless directed by owners. We do have an Old Highway trail that you can use for bike rides and walks with owner's permission.
While the appeal of this location is the outdoors and simple living, we do have satellite TV and access to basic internet. The area has great Rogers and roaming cell service. Be aware, however that the cell service for some providers is not available.
Interaction with Guests
My husband Jeff and I, our 5 children, and a very active border collie live across the yard in a newly built, almost completed house, and are frequently available to answer questions and help with any local knowledge you might need. We love this area and enjoy sharing our favorite tips for a memorable vacation.
Places to See
Remember to bring your passports to fully enjoy the area. We are centrally located for easy travel to enjoy both Northwestern Montana, and Southwestern Alberta. Some of our favorite places, of course are in the majestic Glacier and Waterton Peace Parks. We love the hikes in Many Glacier and the Going-to-the-Sun road. There are many hidden treasures like the Babb Cattle Baron Supper Club, Johnson's restaurant in St. Mary with it's unique décor and family meals, Thronson's General store with a fun antique store beside it.
Waterton has fantastic hikes as well as quaint shops and restaurants. We love Bears Hump, Red Rock Canyon, camp fires at Pass Creek and an Ice Cream stop at the Big Scoop. We also love the Twin Butte Mexican Restaurant 15 minutes from Waterton.
The scenic town of Cardston, Alberta is a short 15 minute drive north, where you can see the biggest Carriage museum in North America, the historic Cardston Alberta Mormon Temple Visitor Centre and enjoy great summer theatre at the Carriage House Theatre. There are 2 well appointed stores - Extra Foods and Family Foods. Cardston has several fast food chain restaurants, , as well as locally owned Little Mexico - an Authentic Mexican restaurant, Dave's Drive-In, and ice cream and any candy you can imagine at the Cardston Sweet Shop. The St. Mary River is close to us and we can help arrange a rafting trip down the river with Incept Adventure Company. There is also a newly renovated public swimming pool with a brand new playground and Lee Creek trail next to it.
Our Ranch is home to many forms of wild life, as well as our cows, 3 horses, dog and multiple barn cats. It is great for bird watching, we often see bald and golden eagles, whooping cranes, hawks, deer, the occasional grizzly bear and many others.
