In typical New Orleans style, The Happiness Haven is made for entertaining and spending quality time with family and friends. In short, The Happiness Haven offers a lot of flexibility all in a beautiful setting that is designed for total comfort and togetherness with plenty of room for everyone to find their very own happy place. The main house was renovated in 2014 and this 1st floor in-law apartment was just completed in the spring of 2017. The house is in the city's historic landmark district.
Free parking waiting for 1-3 guest cars just steps from your front door!
Note: This is a 1st floor apartment with low ceilings. Surprisingly, the overall brightness of the space and open floor plan make the ceiling height a subtle aspect of the Haven's overall coziness.
The 7th Ward is a historic Creole New Orleans' neighborhood. Many of the rich traditions of New Orleans' culture were born in the 7th Ward. Our home was owned by one of the most prominent Creole families in the city making it part of a long history of family and community of which we feel honored to take part. This area of the 7th Ward is known as Esplanade Ridge because of its proximity to Esplanade Ave and its ridge elevation. It is truly an urban neighborhood - a stone's throw to all the happenings but still with a quiet though friendly local community feel. New Orleans continues to change quickly right before our eyes so our neighborhood is quite mixed with families who have been here for generations and many newcomers to the city. This is also a popular neighborhood for short-term rentals so you will often see other visitors heading your way.
Walk 10 blocks (20 minutes) or take a $6-$8 Uber (approx.) to get to the French Quarter or Frenchmen St. Or, if it is Jazz Fest time, walk, bike, Uber/taxi 12 blocks in the opposite direction to get to the Fair Grounds. Walk three blocks to the picturesque Esplanade Ave. and take the bus or Uber/Lyft to City Park where you can check out the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Sculpture Garden, the Botanical Garden, and so much more!

About Aminata Brown
I’ve spent most of my adult life traveling internationally after catching the travel bug as a high school exchange student in France. Africa became my calling during undergrad and after living in Senegal for nearly a year, I went on to complete a year of studies in Ghana and later made Ghana home for five years. During that time I started an African women’s social enterprise and eventually a non-profit to support girls’ education which I still run today. Living abroad for so long and always at the grace of so many kind generous people shaped my outlook on life and what’s really important. After being spoiled by such a different way of being, I was not certain that I could live in the United States long-term but my longing to be near family again made me give it a try. When I came to New Orleans for the first time in 2007, I knew that this was the city for me. So much of what I loved about the people and lifestyle of West Africa is exactly what makes New Orleans the special place that it is. I moved to New Orleans in 2008 and I have been deeply in love with the city ever since. I know that it is no accident that I now have a beautiful home to host others in a city that calls people from all over the world. I welcome the opportunity to pay forward all of the goodness and hospitality that has been such a fortune for me. I truly believe that this is what makes the world go round and there is no greater joy than sharing the city that makes me so happy with others.

Why Aminata Brown chose Esplanade Ridge
The first time that I saw this house, I fell in love with its grandeur and graceful architectural beauty. As I have learned more about its history, I feel even more honored to call it my home. The house was originally built and owned by one of the most prominent Creole families in New Orleans, true culture-bearers in our city. The Creole people are known for their tremendous contributions to the richness of New Orleans', and this neighborhood retains the uniqueness that has made the 7th Ward one of our most famous communities. Properties in this area are publicly recognized for their historic value as they are protected by the New Orleans' Historic Landmark Commission. We relish in being located at the heart of the city's best attractions, while still being anchored in a truly historic New Orleans neighborhood. The authentic southern warmth of our neighbors amidst the colorful sampling of New Orleans' architecture give the Happiness Haven an old world charm, set in the comfort of the most modern amenities.

Perfect place to stay
My group of 7 had an amazing time staying here! It was a great size and felt like a home away from home. Very close to the French Quarter, Superdome, and Smoothie King Center, and I can't mention enough how super friendly and accommodating Aminata was!
This property was beyond amazing, and the owners were more than accommodating and went out of their way to make our stay a great one. We found the handguide she created to be perfect for helping us narrow down food options, and every place she recommended had amazing food. The beds are comfortable and the two full bathrooms a huge plus. I would recommend this place highly to anyone looking to stay in New Orleans:)
Christine, I'm so glad that you and your friends had an amazing stay! New Orleans has so much to enjoy, it makes it extra special when you can also really enjoy the accommodations and being together. That's what the Happiness Haven is all about! Please know that you all are welcome to come back to visit again anytime.
This place was everything we needed and more. We came in for a weekend stay (Fri-Monday) and it had all the essentials so we didn't have to buy anything! It was great and it was only a $10 uber ride from the French Quarter! Amanita as very gracious and friendly. Would definitely recommend this place or will stay here next time!
Nicole, I'm so glad to hear that you and your friends were all so comfortable and had everything that you needed to create a great stay! That's exactly how I want all of my guests to feel. I do hope that you all will come back again. You're always welcome!
A great value, lots of space and nicely remodeled.
We were within walking distance of many attractions, not so many eating places close by, but a great kitchen. A couple of streets nearby were a little sketchy, but we found different routes and never felt unsafe. Uber was very reasonable.
Aminata put a lot of planning and love on her
James, so glad that you enjoyed your stay in the Haven but sorry you missed some of my favorite eating spots (Lil' Dizzy's, Buffas, Adolfo's, etc) on your walk into the French Quarter! I do wish that you'd seen them listed in the Welcome binder. Your comment about some streets nearby looking "sketchy" made me laugh. That pretty much describes our entire city! We New Orleanians are quick to own up to the fact that our city is one big gumbo pot with everything mixed in together. The scenery (and the vibe) changes completely from block to block and that's why we love it. Also, while many homes have been renovated and/or well-maintained, we recognize that many of our oldest legacy homeowners were not so fortunate to have the policies that they needed to restore their homes after Katrina. So, we live with daily reminders of the random fortunes and misfortunes of life. I love living in an area with so much living history, rich culture, and beautiful architecture. And, while I would love to see every home in pristine condition, I am forced to recognize that life is not always as tidy as we might like. I'm thankful to have such wonderful neighbors who welcome visitors with friendly greetings and heartfelt hopes that you will love your time in our city as much as we do. I'm so glad that you were able to look past those things that may not have looked quite right and still let the good times roll! From our perspective, that's what it's all about. Hope you and your wife come visit again. I'm sure that when you do, you'll also be amazed at how quickly the city continues to be revitalized! Thanks again for coming and for taking the time to leave a review.
Very Happy Haven
We had such a great time in New Orleans and staying at Happy Haven made our time even better. It was very comfortable and having a quiet place to go back to after a long day and evening in the French Quarter was delightful. The 2 king suites made it the perfect place to stay for 2 couples. Everything that we needed was there and Aminata was very gracious and took care of a minor issue right away. We will definitely stay here again when we visit New Orleans.
Karen, I'm so delighted that you all felt fully accommodated and comfortable during your stay in the Happiness Haven. I know that when I've traveled with another couple, it can be awkward when the bedrooms are vastly unequal. I'm thrilled that you all enjoyed having the two king suites - that was exactly my intention! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review. I do hope that you will visit again!
Aminata, was great from the hospitality and her warm personality. She welcome my family and friends with open arms and treated us well. The house is beautiful it really makes you feel like you're at home but away from home. I will definitely be renting from her again. And to top if off the location of the house is in the heart of everything. Such as Bourbon, French Quarter etc...You will enjoy your stay trust me😘😘
Thanks for coming - I'm so glad that you all enjoyed your visit!
