Region: The West of Ireland conjures up many images; thatched, whitewashed cottages, a flock of sheep on a narrow road, an emerald green field with a stone wall, or the Atlantic waves crashing into towering cliffs and rocky shores.

Town: This interesting town rests close to the coast in north County Mayo. As well as boasting a friendly atmosphere and a wide range of shops, pubs and eateries, Ballina is known for its position along the River Moy - a haven for salmon fishermen. Lough Conn is a stunning body of water close by, a fine spot for scenic walking.

We had the most wonderful stay in Katie's Cottage. We met the lovely host Caroline on arrival and we couldn't have gotten a warmer welcome. There was fresh scones with jam and butter and a bottle of wine in the fridge. The house was absolutely immaculate with loads of fresh towels and bed linen. The beds were really comfy and the kitchen was very well equipped with everything we needed. The surrounding area is stunning and the cottage was a great base to explore all of this. The cottage is within driving distance to Ballina so if you're staying you'll definitely need transport to access amenities. 5 star stay and would absolutely love to come back! Thanks so much Caroline.

Anne & Jean.
