Summered and lived in this pretty historic village since I was a boy. It's one of the most beautiful places I know of.
Wendyl purchased this House in 1968
Why Wendyl chose Somesville
Can't beat the location! Million dollar view of the mountains of Acadia National Park. Backyard deck and dock. The kayaking is great!
What makes this House unique
Photograph bald eagles, ospreys and other wildlife right from the dock. Library and gallery next door. Island Explorer pick up streetside in front of the house.

Serenity on Somes Sound
What a wonderful place! The house is charming and clean, and everything you need is there. Wendyl was a wonderful host, providing great suggestions and tips for our visit. The location is perfect - peaceful, with amazing views of the sound and close proximity to Acadia and Bar Harbor. We sat every morning, drinking our coffee, watching eagles, cormorants and seals from the kitchen window. Using the kayaks was the best - we had dolphins and seals swimming near us, eagles overhead. Truly an excellent experience!
Enjoyed our stay very much
Just book it - you will enjoy
Ideal location and stay
Wendyl’s home is in the most perfect location for exploring MDI and Acadia. Central, close to Bar Harbor and the other towns, peaceful, and the view of Somes Sound is breathtaking. We enjoyed our stay at this cozy home. The kitchen is very good, which you cannot quite tell from the pictures. Plenty of space for all and very comfy. The stairs to the bedrooms might be a bit of a challenge for someone who has true mobility issues, but I was able to manage them even with my bad knees, and it is very nice to have that separation of living areas from bedrooms and showers, etc. Having the large half bathroom on the main floor is a bonus.
Thank you for sharing your charming home Wendyl.
Beautiful water view, private with great Acadia access.
We spent 7 nights in this home, finding the sunrises spectacular and the birds interesting to watch as the tide changed. The binoculars provided were appreciated. I had some concern about how well we would be able to see the shorefront from inside the house; the view is great! We did not use the kayaks, TV or the grill. The wifi worked very well. We found the kitchen with convection oven and the washer dryer appliances to be excellent, even had a clothesline and hangers. We prepared lunches and cooked fresh seafood some nights. I recommend the Trenton market IGA. There is a filtered water tap on the sink and the freezer makes ice automatically. The coffee maker was great. It was nice to be so close to the Atlantic Brewing Company tasting room with all their brews available by bottle. The house is very convenient to everything, if you have a car. The island explorer bus stops 1/2 mile away and could be used but timing must be carefully considered as some places require several bus changes to reach. The gallery and library on each side were not busy. The road is very busy, day and night, making left turns from the house impossible at times, and generating traffic noise which became background sound after a day or 2. If you have 2 cars, you cannot turn around in the parking area and will need to chose a safe time to back out into traffic. I recommend very early morning or late evening. Homes on MDI generally do not have AC and we did not find that a problem in late September with the breezes moving nicely through the house. There are portable fans in every room but we did not need them. The bedrooms had plenty of space and each has a full bathroom, being across from each other at the top of the very steep stairs. There is even an office with a desk which my husband used with his laptop. The half bath on the main floor is very convenient. Somesville has a sidewalk to enjoy looking at the houses. Take the road into the cemetary to see the historic tombstones, lovely fish weirs and Somes Pond.
We were very comfortable and extremely well served with the location, the supplies, the house layout, the view, and the communication from our host. I recommend this rental home highly!
Mostley great place
Only complaint about this property is that it is so close to a very busy road and it needs a source of outdoor warmth on cool Maine nights. Fire pit, gas fire pit, Hot tub...
Perfect house on on the water with 2 kayaks and a small rowboat. 2 bedroom upstairs with their own full bathrooms and a half bath downstairs. Enjoyed watching the high and low tides. Washer and dryer in the basement. Fully stocked kitchen. 20 min from downtown bar harbor. We loved our stay in this house. If you are thinking of staying here you should book because it probably won’t be available for long. Enjoyed sitting out on the dock in the evenings. Great house and great location created outstanding memories.
