Sneak away to a quiet lake cottage retreat that feels like it's way up north, but is only an hour from Milwaukee, Madison or Oshkosh. Lake Sinnissippi is a 3000 acre full rec lake with several areas bouyed off as no wake zones to protect wildlife, like the pelicans that summer in our bay.
Pelican Cottage has one large dormer with two double beds and three twin beds. A separate bunkhouse sleeps two with a twin trundle bed. There is a futon on the first floor that could sleep one or two more. The cottage is light and airy, with wide plank wood floors and retro decor that will make you feel like you stepped back to a simpler time.
Bring your own canoe or kayak or use ours for a flatwater excursion from the cottage up the Rock River into the famous Horicon Marsh for excellent bird watching. Watch spring come alive in the Marsh. A two person kayak, a single person kayak, and a child's kayak are all included in the rental. We also have a 4 person paddle boat available. There are life vests available, but you might want to bring your own.
If a motorboat or pontoon are what you are looking for to have the perfect lake vacation, nearby Oxbo Marine has rentals available.
Beach towels, bed linens and pillows are included in your rental. The kitchen is tiny so if you are dreaming of spending your vacation cooking, this might not be the place for you. There is a smoker and a small gas grill, so please grill out! There are three separate patios plus a fire pit - plenty of room for outdoor relaxation and entertaining.
While we'd like to see you have fun and disconnect, we've made it possible to stay in the real world with wi-fi and Dish TV.
There are plenty of games stocked at the cottage. For outdoor fun, there's a croquet set and a bean bag toss game. Indoors there's a host of games stored on a unique pulley system. You have to see it to believe it. Classic games like cribbage and dominos are there, plus Cards Agains Humanity, Wits and Wagers and others.
When you come to Pelican Cottage you should keep your eye out for a wide variety of wildlife. Besides pelicans watch for eagles, cranes, turkeys, and deer. The gravel road you take to get to Pelican Cottage crosses through a farm - watch for goats, a pony and a flock of guinea hens.
Lake Sinnissippi is shallow, but free of weeds and blue-green algae. No diving from the pier, but the lake bottom in front of the cottage is fine gravel, and further out a soft clay-like bottom.
