Beautifully presented, peaceful holiday cottage in the Cotswolds -Primrose Cottage, Blockley

Primrose Cottage is an end of terrace Cotswold stone property which sleeps four guests, in two beautifully appointed bedrooms, with a large bathroom. Dating back to the 1800s, this wonderful home away from home is laid out across three floors and has been sympathetically styled, combining stunning original features, including stone mullion windows and an inglenook fireplace, with modern facilities. Blockley Brook flows through the picturesque garden, an ideal spot to while away a sunny afternoon.

Accommodation
This two bedroom holiday cottage in the charming village of Blockley is perfectly suited for two couples, or a family with older children, looking to explore the countryside and many attractions the North Cotswolds has to offer. The accommodation is laid out as follows:

Full of character with an exposed Cotswold stone wall, original beams, inglenook fireplace with wood burner, Smart TV with on demand services only (guests to use their own logins), DVD player, Bluetooth speaker, two-seater sofa, two armchairs and selection of board games

Stable door opening onto the garden, electric cooker, gas hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, toaster, kettle, cafetière, washing machine/tumble dryer, and table with four chairs

Double bed, wardrobe and views of the lane and brook below

Bath with handheld shower attachment, loo and basin

A door on the first floor landing conceals a staircase which leads up directly into the master bedroom

Dual aspect, wrought iron king size bed, clothes hanging rail, armchair, mirror and hairdryer

Outside
Pretty patio with table and four chairs, and lawn garden which leads to a gate, beyond which is a second garden area with countryside views and gate giving access to local walks. The flowing brook runs along the full length of the garden and there is a charcoal BBQ during the summer months.

The maximum occupancy for this property is 4 guests. Please take consideration whilst booking as the layout, furnishings, and features of Primrose Cottage, Blockley are best suited to guests over the age of 8 (some features could pose safety risks for infants and very young children)

Free on street parking is available close to the cottage (the walk from the end of the road, where luggage can be unloaded, to Primrose Cottage is approximately 75 yards, on a flat footpath alongside the brook)

A once beautiful cottage with the wonderful babbling brook alongside.This is the most my sister and I have paid for a cottage in the UK and sadly, this cottage was faded and tired. Curtains hanging off. Dust and cobwebs in alot of areas. No mattress covers despite info saying we had to strip beds and leave protectors on!Mugs all tea stained, all oven ware had old hard grease stains and oven not at all clean. Had to burn off old grease burnt smells before using. and not quite everything in the kitchen for self catering. This years drought left most gardens undergrown but this one was very overgrown and not much sunlight could find it's way in. Sorry, I have not had to complain about a holiday cottage before, but my sister and I thought we needed to make these points as does not look like VRBO or Staycottages has checked this one in a while.We always enjoy our annual trip away , so we could overlook some of this. But feel a partial refund due to us.

Lovely relaxing weekend away by a babbling brook

Both my friends and I had a wonderfully, relaxing long weekend away @ Primrose Cottage mid January . The cottage is very welcoming and comfortable, warm with the addition of a log burner should you wish to use it. A well stocked kitchen utensil wise and such comfortable beds! Totally enjoyed our stay and really do hope to return another time.

A wonderful cottage.

The location is perfect in the beautiful Blockley. The cottage is warm and inviting and the kitchen provided everything we needed. We would happily stay here again.

Oh my!

Delightful and delighted! What a magical place to stay! Such a wonderful fairytale setting in a very precious little house. Surrounded by the sounds of birdsong and babbling brook, water shimmering, leafy trees making patterns of dappled shade, fresh country air blowing gently through open windows, we were in heaven. The cottage is clean, cosy, well equipped and fantastically situated . Whilst it's a little tricky to get luggage along the river path, that is also a huge part of its charm, to be greeted by it's beauty, settled in it's little space as you round the corner. Idyllic. We are in love . Desperately want to return. Excellent communication, information and contact throughout the booking period. Absolutely nothing to fault. Thank you so very much for allowing us to be custodians for just a little while. The memories will last forever.

I read the reviews before deciding to rent Primrose Cottage. I heard about the dirty furniture, floor, windows etc...but I thought they fixed that...the next customer said nothing about it. Well...it's true. The house is old, lots of charm...but there's a breakdown between customers complaining and management listening.What I did about it after traveling 4,607 miles was I bought cleaning supplies and washed windows, kitchen floor, and counters. I swept the tree debris from the patio and opened all the windows to ventilate. All deco pillows were piled on the patio table to air. When I was done...I thought 'why didn't they do this before I came?'So if you don't mind some elbow grease and extra cash for cleaning supplies...this is your cottage....Oh, and why didn't I call the management that manages this property to complain? Because management were the ones in charge in the first place. They would have probably sent over the team that didn't clean...AGAIN!

Just perfect

Primrose Cottage is just perfect is you are looking for a peaceful stay in the Cotswolds. Situated in beautiful Blockley, it is accessed on foot from the high street. The stream (brook) runs 70m through the garden, sometimes trout can be seen. The cottage is well equipped and very comfortable. We cannot wait to return.

Beautiful Location in Blockley

We had a wonderful experience at Primrose Cottage. This is a truly unique and amazing location right on the bubbling brook. May be challenging for anyone with mobility issues, as it is a bit of a walk down a short hill to get to the property from the road, but totally worth it if not problematic for you. Listening to the brook was so calming. The town of Blockley is quaint and not too busy. This is truly a gem of a location. Would definitely go back!

A peaceful, pretty Cottage

My wife and I had a wonderful time in the Cotswolds, and the Cottage played a big part in that. It was cosy and had most of what we needed. However, strangely it did not come with any shampoo or body soap, there was no tissue paper, and the phone for local calls was not working. If those small areas could be looked at, it would have been a perfect stay.

Beautiful but tired

The location was convenient and quiet. The cottage was quaint and tastefully decorated. The stream running beside the property created a unique and serene atmosphere. However, the cottage needs a deep clean. Carpets were dirty, living room furniture badly soiled and bathroom shade splattered. Amenities such as bath soap, shampoo and toilet tissue were lacking.

Nice house, but it needs a thorough cleaning

The house was beautiful and set in an almost magical location. Unfortunately we found the kitchen with a lot of dirt on furniture, oven and hob. We asked for a solution, but this was not possible, the reason given was that we did not report the problem within 24 hours, when our stay was for 1 week. Also the TV remote did not work and the carpet in the living room smelled unpleasantly of pet pee. Nice house, but it needs a thorough cleaning and the management of the real estate agency was not up to the task.

Cottage by the babbling brooke

The cottage was exactly as presented in the pictures. Clean, well appointed, private. You can occasionally hear sheep bleating in the neighboring pasture. Easy entry instructions. We had a nice dinner in the back porch beside the Brooke. Walking distance to the quaint little village, bar and cafe/restaurant. They happened to be filming Father Brown while we were there in July. If you have bad knees, you should know there are 11 stairs to the bathroom and 10 more to the third floor bedroom. Beds are very comfy. The shower is a tub shower and the tub is about three feet high with a slim lip just in case that is a problem for you. You'll have to park on high Street which is very narrow with cars parked on both sides. Neighbors are friendly.

A spoilt holiday.

Primrose Cottage is full of character situated in a delightful location. However our stay was spoilt by poor cleanliness and maintenance of the property. Parts of the cottage had clearly not been dusted for months. Water was dripping from the bathroom into the lounge on our arrival, although this did stop before the plumber arrived on our first morning. The cottage windows could not be shut properly, even allowing for the age of the property. The standard lamp in the lounge was dangerously broken, as was a picture hanging in the bathroom. The fridge door shelf broke due a cracked support bracket causing a full bottle of wine to smash on the kitchen tiles. The TV remote did not work so no TV. We have stayed in many cottages and this is the first that did not have a visitor book for comments! Stay Cotswold Cottages were helpful when contacted regarding the leak and fridge, but overall our stay should not have been so stressful. I hope this review is shown to perhaps encourage the owner to clean and maintain this cottage to a higher standard.

We are pleased to read that you found the cottage to be full of character and situated in a delightful location, but are sorry to read that your experience did not meet expectations. We have passed your feedback onto the property owner who has discussed this with the property manager. He has informed us that the leak was caused through user error, and after the owner had arranged for a plumber to urgently visit, you refused them access to the property to assess the situation. Also, the fridge shelf was not previously broken, you initially contacted the property manager with a different cause of the breakage and to state you would not pay for a replacement. The owners are pragmatic and accept accidental breakages occasionally occur as part of the use of the property, irrespective of any blame a minor issue such as this would not have been a problem. The TV and remote have been checked since your departure and they are in full working order, again you were given instructions over the phone and the property manager offered to assist in person, but again you refused this assistance. The cottage windows are very old with some in better condition than others, but being a listed building they are not easily allowed to be replaced. The property owner accepts that they do not operate like modern windows, but they are all functional, they also hope that guests can appreciate they are an integral part of the character of the building. The property manager has confirmed that there are no broken lamps, the pictures are hung normally and there is a property information book available to all guests at the property. The housekeeping team have been notified to review and address any cleanliness issues. We are sorry that you felt your holiday was spoilt and we really do take feedback seriously, however, it is disappointing to receive such a review when upon inspection the property owner found most of the issues were inaccurate. The property owner and his management team will aim to resolve any issues you experience during your stay, if they are given access to the property. Unfortunately, during your booking you refused the property managers request to visit the property, and any other assistance which was offered by the team.

Cute cottage that needs a good clean

To be honest I only booked a stay at Primrose Cottage because of the stream running through the garden, it looked so sweet and charming and I could not resist! Booking was simple and straightforward. The cottage is quite lovely, however I was taken aback by the lack of cleanliness. I realise in the English climate, and with a fireplace too, it must be difficult to keep carpet clean, but the carpet here looks like it hasn’t been deep cleaned in years. The sofa and armchair were so grubby I wasn’t even comfortable sitting on them. I only used the ‘leather’ armchair because it at least looked clean. The rubbish bin in the top bedroom had not been emptied prior to my stay, not pleasant to have to deal with another guests dirty tissues when I arrived. I had to scrub a coffee mug clean before it was fit for use. I did not need to cook during my stay, which I’m glad of, because all the cupboards and their contents were grubby. I only made use of the toaster and kettle. I did have to use the iron, the handbook said it was stored I the cupboard under the stairs. I opened the cupboard to find a dusty, tangled mess of all sorts. The worst was probably when my phone slipped off the bedside table and I pulled the table out. Yuk. Not cleaned for years by the look of it. Whoever vacuums the place does not move anything out of the way obviously. The Iightswitch on the landing was bizarrely taped off. And for goodness sake, spend a few bucks on a new lampshade! …… but the stream and garden were lovely!!

Good Location - Property Needs Improvement

Stayed at Primrose Cottage for a week at the beginning of June. The cottage is a Listed Building with the character and quirks of many such properties (beware of the beams in the main bedroom!). It is situated in a charming location, with a stream running along the property boundary and is accessed via two pathways, with Brook Lane the best option for unloading luggage etc. The property has no parking space, with on-street parking available on the High Street, which can become a little congested on occasions. Blockley is a quiet, attractive village with friendly residents and provides a good base for exploring the Cotswolds more widely. All in all the property provides the basic amenities expected of this type of accommodation, with the beds proving particularly comfortable. However, as has been referenced in some other reviews of this property, there were some issues that detracted from the experience. The main living area had a tired and worn feel which would benefit from a refresh. The kitchen floor and mat appeared ‘grubby’, but most concerning was the condition of the oven which was not clean and as a consequence we refrained from cooking any meals during our stay. On inspection, all the bin storage and recycling area (located behind the garden shed), was full and appeared not to have been collected for some little time. A telephone call to the management company was met initially with an expectation that we were to deal with this situation, but advised we were not willing to sort out the amount of accumulated rubbish. As a consequence, a person arrived promptly and removed four large plastic sacks of rubbish and left a box of materials for recycling for collection by the local council. It should be noted that no detailed information on the collection of rubbish/recycled materials is included in the information folder provided in the cottage. On departing the cottage, we left only a relatively small amount of rubbish and took all materials capable of being recycled home with us for disposal. Finally, the windows of the cottage were dirty and did not appear to have been cleaned for some considerable time. In conclusion, Primrose Cottage has a lot going for it in terms of its character and location, but aspects of its maintenance could be significantly improved.
