Lily's Cottage, secluded, Sea View Villa with private pool and amazing Garden

Lily's Cottage has been in the Rental market for 9 year. Our guests are mostly repeaters who have loved this cozy, comfortable farmhouse which belong to our Family for many many years. Initially there was nothing but an Olive Grove which kindly, had been offered its excellent oil to the family. Later on, a very simple, based, farm house was build. It was there, where the whole Family used to gather , in order to celebrate Christhmas, Easter, or just to have fun.
In 2016, I (Lily) made a decision which changed my whole life. I resigned from the Bank I was working for 24 years and I fully renovated the farmhouse. I was feeling insecure as i had to invest all my money into this project but finally it hasn't let me down.
Lily's Cottage is not just a farmhouse or a villa. It has its own soul and energy which our guests are able to feel the very first moment they enter the green, iron-made gate and walk the passing which leads to the house.
Ancient Olive trees, loquat trees, apricot trees along with amazing flowers combine a fantastic scenery which attract our guests to stay at the outside area even in Winters.
Great consideration has given to the mattresses, pillows and linen which are of the best quality.
Last but, definitely, not least is the Location of the property which was one of the main reason I made my decision to convert our farmhouse to a Cottage-to-rent. Just 7 kl of the Town of Rethymnon (6-7 min drive ), 1 kl from the nearest Sandy beach and walking distance to tavernas, super markets, cafes...
The noumerous of the excellent reviews prove the correctness of this decision.

Wonderful

Absolutely loved Lilys cottage. We have just got back from 2 lovely weeks in Crete. The cottage was fantastic. Very peaceful and we found it hard to drag ourselves away. Lily and George are perfect hosts. Always on hand if we needed them and the welcoming food was just the job. Highly recommended

…. Tina Turner Lily’s Cottage is “ Simply The Best” !! We absolutely loved everything about the cottage, the facilities, the location and the attentive but unobtrusive help and care from the best host in Crete- the lovely Lily! We just didn’t want to leave after our 16 nights and, yes, we will return. Rethymno is only 20 minutes by car and is a classy town with nice shops and some really good fine dining restaurants. Ask Lily she knows all the best places. Having said that the Cottage is well equipped for self catering and we enjoyed many meals in the attractive and tranquil garden with its fabulous sea view.

Wundervolles Plätzchen mit Privatssphäre und Blick auf s Meer

Zur Begrüßung gab es selbst gemachtes Moussaka, Wein, Wasser und einen Kuchen. Dies hat uns natürlich sehr gefreut, da wir erst gegen 21h ankamen und hungrig waren. Besonders gefallen hat uns der schöne Garten mit Pool, und dass man beim Frühstücken auf s Meer blicken konnte. Da es keine Nachbarn gibt, hat man dieses schöne Fleckchen ganz für sich. Es gab jederzeit auf Wunsch frische Handtücher. Alle Zimmer sind sowohl mit Klimaanlage, als auch mit guten Mückengittern ausgestattet. Auf den Betten lag es sich auch gut. Man hatte je ein weiches und ein härteres Kissen zur Auswahl. Kurzum: wir waren hellauf begeistert und kommen sicher wieder! :-)

Ein kleines Paradies

Aufenthalt 28.9. bis 19.10.2020 Inge und Uwe aus Stuttgart Wir verbrachten wunderschöne 3 Wochen in dieser Wohlfühloase.Die Lage ist sehr reizvoll.Das Haus ist freistehend und garantiert absolute Privatsphäre,unweit von Geschäften,Gastronomie und Meer. Lily sagt,das cottage ist ihr Baby,der Pool braucht Pflege wie ein Haustier.Das merkt man gleich.Alles ist sehr gepflegt und äußerst sauber.Regelmäßig wurde geputzt,die Handtücher gewechselt und der Pool gereinigt. Nach jedem "schweißtreibenden" Ausflug freuten wir uns auf die Abkühlung im Pool und die Entspannung im Garten. Lily verwöhnte uns mit kretischer Küche und Kuchen. Bei Ankunft begrüßte uns Lily mit einer Moussaka,Kuchen und der Kühlschrank war mit allem gefüllt,was man für's Erste braucht.Eine tolle Gastgeberin! Aber auch ohne Lily's Kochkünste würde unsere Bewertung so ausfallen! Eigentlich wollten wir noch nicht nach Hause.

Excellent property, exceptional host.

We have just returned from spending eight days at Lily’s cottage close to Rethymnon. I will begin by saying that I’ve been renting holiday properties for over thirty years and during that time a handful of the owners stand out as having been very kind and considerate people. On top of that very select group of people is Lily, the kindest, most generous and thoughtful host I have ever met. She is exceptional. From starting the booking process there were polite and friendly messages at every stage with helpful directions to meet her on the day of our arrival and the person who turned up was no surprise, she was an absolute delight to meet. More surprises awaited us on arrival at the cottage where we were greeted with a lot more than we expected including a selection of local foods to taste and the most delicious spinach pie she had made. The house was exactly as we expected it to be but the things the pictures can’t tell you are things like how very comfortable the beds were made with top quality linens and that sitting room and garden furniture too was extremely comfortable. The views from the windows of the coast and sea which was turquoise in colour for most of the time we were there were superb and better still from the roof terrace. The garden is a peaceful spot with lots of pleasant places to position a chair to make the most of the sun or the shade (under an olive tree) whichever is your preference. Lily’s generosity didn’t end with a spinach pie but also went on to include the most delicious moussaka so in addition to being an excellent host, she’s an excellent cook going way beyond expectations in her kindness and generosity. I recommend hiring a car because while the house is in a quiet spot, a five-minute drive takes you to main roads and you can be in a lot of interesting places very quickly. Rethymnon itself is a beautiful town with many excellent restaurants and interesting shops and out of season it was pleasant without being crowded. You can be in many places in a seventy-minute drive. There are plenty of grocery stores close by too from independent shops to Greek chains and of course Lidl. It was our first trip to Crete and we thoroughly enjoyed everything about the island and the many people we met, I know it won’t be an only or last trip and I do hope Lily keeps her house available because if it is, I wouldn’t look to stay anywhere else.

Awesome Property with Exceptional Host

Our stay at Lily’s was amazing! The house is so well cared for, with all the comforts of home. Lily is an exceptional host. Not only did we greatly appreciate being welcomed with home baking and other thoughtful touches, but many other little details were included: comfortable beds, amazing sheets, local fruit and cheeses provided. Needless to say, we loved our time at Lily’s and would highly recommend her cottage. We have rented many places over the years, and we have never met a host as gracious and welcoming as Lily. Thank you so much for everything!

Heel gezellig goed huis met alles erop en eraan.

Locatie top, huis top, grote tuin met een hoop fruit- en olijfbomen.Jammer dat het Kersttijd was en geen weer om te zwemmen in het zwembad maar we hebben genoten van de openhaard 's avonds. De eigenaresse had alles speciaal voor ons in Kerstsfeer gebracht binnen, heel bijzonder,er was ook eten en drinken in voorraad dus hoefden bij aankomst niet eerst te gaan shoppen.Super plek ook voor uitstapjes zomer en winter. Kortom we hebben een fantastische tijd gehad in een heerlijke woning!

Wonderful cottage with nicest host

We spent ten wonderful days in Lily's cottage in October with our two children. The cottage is very cozy, clean and perfect equiped. As well as the pool and the garden. Its located perfectly only 10 minutes from Rethymno and not far to other sightseeing locations. And Lily is the best host I ever met, also her cheese pie and moussaka are very delicious!!:-) She was always available, when we needed an advice or recommendation and our communication was very easy:-)

Tolles Haus und eine wunderbare Gastgeberin

Von unserem Urlaub im letzten Jahr waren wir so begeistert, dass wir es dieses Jahr wieder gebucht haben. Lily hat in ihrem tollen Cottage renoviert und alle Fenster und Türen ausgetauscht und mit Fliegengittern versehen. Da hat man seine Ruhe vor Insekten aller Art. Sie ist eine wunderbare Gastgeberin und versorgt uns mit leckern Speisen und vielen Tipps. Lily hat uns zu einer Weinprobe auf einem excellenten Weingut mitgenommen. Ein ganz besonderer Moment in unserem Urlaub. Die mitgenommen Weine haben wir dann auf der sehr schönen Dachterasse bei Sonnenuntergang genossen. Wir fühlten uns innerhalb und außerhalb ihres Cottage gleichermaßen wohl. Der Pool war für September nicht zu warm und stets gut von Lily‘s Sohn gepflegt. Im Haus hat Elli viermal in den zwei Wochen alles sehr sauber gehalten. Wir können uns nur bedanken und werden natürlich wiederkommen. Auf Kreta gibt es noch soviel zu entdecken.

The house was really awesome

The house was nice and clean, the garden was hughe with plenty of space to relax and the highlight of the property was the pool, which always was held at a constant, cooling Temperature and was clean. With the house also came a young cat that was pretty friendly. Lily’s advices are great and always recommendable. Our stay was a great pleasure and Lily one of the nicest persons we ever met.

Amazing place to enjoy a great vacation

A little paradise near Rethymnon! If you are looking for a charming place with all comfort in a calm environment close to the beach and city ... do not look any further because this is the place to be! Lily's cottage is a fully renovated and decorated with great taste. It is located in an olive grove and surrounded by a green garden with shadowing trees and flowers. It has a beautiful swimming pool (privacy guaranteed) and the parking is easy in front of the house (private country road). From the terraces and garden you see the sea. The cottage is ideally situated at 5 minutes by car (15 minutes walking) from restaurants, pizzeria, bakery, shops, supermarket, ATM, highway, etc. The nearest beach is at 5 minutes by car and Rethymnon (which is a wonderful little city) is at 15 min. From the cottage you can reach Heraklion, Chania, the south coast's beaches and the white mountains in less than 1 hour. On top of this you will not regret to meet Lily, the wonderful owner, and to enjoy her friendly services! Spotless experience, we will return for sure!

Fantastic villa and host

The first impression you get when arriving at Lily’s Cottage is from Lily herself. Being greeted with a warm welcome and broad smile instantly put us in a relaxed holiday mood. Lily met us at the supermarket in the town which is just a two minute drive away from the cottage but far enough to feel secluded and tucked away. The photos on the website do not do justice to how beautiful and well loved this property is. As well as the great swimming pool, there are plenty of places to sit around in the garden and soak in the Cretan sun. Under olive trees, the parasol, the table on the terrace, the choices go on and on. The villa accommodation is great as well with full air conditioning which is much needed when the average day temperature is 30* plus! We ventured out a few times into the town to eat and also to Rethymon for the day which is lovely also. However you can easily spend the day relaxing at the house with a good book and glass of wine. Lily is the perfect host and left us fresh oranges, cherries, raki, wine, a big cake, pastries and a lovely cheese pie on arrival. She then followed this up with a delicious mousakka which she brought to us midway through the week when the linen was changed and house cleaned. If we could give 100 stars we would and have no hesitation recommending Lily and Lily’s Cottage to others to enjoy also.

Une villa au calme ,confortable dans un jardin d'oliviers . Excellent séjour dans le "lilly cottage

Super accueil de Lily qui dés notre arrivée (tardive) a su nous mettre à l'aise avec la préparation d'un premier dîner Crétois succulent. la villa est certe petite mais très fonctionnelle . Ayant eu une météo avec 32° chaque jour ..... nous avons pu profiter de l’extérieur en pleine nature et pourtant à 5 mn des commerces . L’extérieur est vraiment super avec des espaces pour l’apéro,le repos les dîners et .....la baignade avec la piscine . Lily tout le long du séjour nous a guidé vers les bonnes adresses de restaurants ,les bonnes plages et les bonnes routes . je recommande sans hésitation le " Lily cottage"

Eine perfekte Woche in Lily´s Cottage

Wir wurden sehr herzlich von Lily empfangen und auch gleich mit köstlichen griechischen Spezialitäten bewirtet. Das Haus hat eine gute Lage und einen liebevoll gepflegten Garten mit Blick auf das Meer. Das Cottage ist geschmackvoll eingerichtet und bestens ausgestattet. Die Betten sind komfortabel. Es gibt einen sehr schönen Pool. Ein wunderschöner Platz zum Entspannen. Wir haben uns dort sehr wohl gefühlt.

Simply perfect!

In more than 40+ years of travel, I have rented almost 100 properties so I know excellence when I find it and I found it at Lilu’s Cottage. You could not find a more beautiful spot nor a more comfortable and immaculate home. The gardens, full of flowers and fruit orchards, are lush and lovingly tended by Lili and her son, George. The views are expansive and breathtaking. There is a short walk to a grocery, bakery, butcher and several little tavernas should you prefer to eat out although I often cooked in the well supplied kitchen. But I have saved the best for last and that is Lili, herself. She is the perfect host. She loves this place deeply and knows its glorious history and is full of great recommendations. You will have to meet her yourself and experience her warm hospitality, vivacious personality and generosity of spirit to see how it is that I came to love her so quickly. I have made a lifelong friend and can’t wait to return. You can rent Lili’s Cottage with complete confidence.

A Great Get Away!!!

Lily's cottage was just what we needed for a relaxing getaway week prior to a tour of the middle east. The cottage is lovingly appointed with art, furnishings, marble tile floors and area carpets. It's just off the beaten path so it's quiet at night but with water views and still close enough to easily get to Rhethymno for nice restaurants and shopping. Lily's welcome casserole in the oven and later in the week made us feel right at home. We loved it!

Stunning cottage with perfect hospitality!

Lily's Cottage is one of those rare gems... you get so much more than just a house, you get to stay in a beautiful home and experience wonderful Cretan hospitality courtesy of Lily. The cottage itself is stunning spotlessly clean, tastefully furnished and newly renovated. Lily has focused on the things that really matter, like high quality mattresses, comfortable furniture and a well-equipped kitchen. Whatever we needed it was there. Pictures don't do the location justice: nestled in the hillside, the cottage is private with lush gardens and beautiful flowers. Perfect for relaxing poolside! It's also just a short walk or drive to the nearby shops and restaurants, and just minutes from the main highway with quick connections to Rethymno. What sets this property apart from others though is Lily's superb hospitality! We arrived to fresh home baking (with cakes and pastries to last our entire stay) and extra home cooked food during the week. Also we were in touch with Lily by text daily to ask about which beaches, sites and restaurants to visit. Her advice was fantastic and helped us to discover a different side of Crete. We were so grateful we asked Lily to join us out for dinner towards the end of our stay because she had been the perfect host. Private rentals can sometimes be a bit of a gamble but with Lily's Cottage it's a safe bet for a truly memorable experience.

Lovely villa and gardens

We have just arrived home from a fabulous two week stay at Lily's cottage. The villa was lovely and clean and had everything you could want. Our 5 year in particular loved the pool and when he wasn't in there he was either in the garden playing football or chilling out inside watching the Disney channel!! There are a couple of nice tavernas just a short walk and we managed this easily even with the pushchair (with our 10 month old) back up the drive. Nothing seemed too much for Lily she truly took care of us spoiling us with all the treats and her Mousaka and the Dakos we had was the best in our two week stay. We had a lovely holiday and if we came back to Crete we would definitely stay here again. Thank you so much Lily.

Relaxing holiday

This was our second time in Lily's cottage and we were glad to have come back. The cottage was as beautiful and as clean as our first time. The pool is extremely pleasant for adults as well for kids. Lily takes special care of her guests and their needs . She is an extraordinary host. We felt that we were on holidays at freinds instead of a Holiday rental. If you are planning a holiday in this part of Crete,, we highly recommend Lily's cottage.

Beautiful villa

We loved our stay in this beautiful villa. The gardens and pool in particular are lovely. Lily was a fantastic hostess - extremely helpful and welcoming. The location of the villa is also great; a short walk to the local tavernas and shops.

Excellent villa, peaceful location, beautiful garden

Such a lovely week and lots to do if you can drag yourself away from the beautiful garden. The Cretan sea is the most amazing deep blue, perfect for swimming. Lily is a perfect host, thank you Lily for the lovely Greek cooking!

Fantastic!!!

We found exactly what we were looking for at Lily's cottage! Peace and quiet in the middle of the summer holidays! Amazing views! I don't want to leave! Lily is the most wonderful host! Whose cheese pie on arrival was a lovely tasty treat only to be surpassed by her amazing musaka! She made herself available to address any of our needs,and gave us good advice and local knowledge, but gave us the privacy we desired! Thank you lily! The cottage itself is perfect, what a little gem! It has everything you need! Fabulous private pool, the garden areas are lovely, there are different areas for different parts of the day, lovely comfortable sun beds in the sun, lovely seating areas in the shade. Lots of colourful plants, obviously well cared for! The bedrooms are very comfortable with air conditioning too! A nice light and airy lounge with information on gorge walks and beaches! Washing machine/ gas BBQ! Lovely shower! Cannot fault this place! There are a couple of supermarkets within a three minute drive one of them is a Lidl, a lovely bakery and butchers too. The local restaurants are mostly reasonably priced and serve good quality food. A ten minute drive up the hill from villa is Fantastico a restaurant with the most amazing views, we had a starter for two persons a Greek taster plate which was delicious and a reasonable price. Rethymenon is a 15minute drive and parking at the harbour is easy and a couple of Euros for a couple hours.lovely old town and fort! The Gorge walk Myli was beautiful well worth a visit! As was Chania with its old town and Venetian harbour. Ive fallen in love with this part of Crete and especially Lily's cottage!

Wonderfully relaxing holiday

Thank you Lily for a wonderful stay. You work so hard to make your guests feel welcomed and looked after. Your cooking is fabulous and we looked forward to your next home cooked meal which we enjoyed with a local salad for lunch. The villa is spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The air con was most welcome during our stay. There are many excellent taverns, with Pagonas just down the road being the best. The tavernas in the hills behind the villa were fantastic (Fantastiko and Thvma being our recommendations...no mossies and wonderful sunset views). Have a car to make the most of visiting the Arkardi monestary, Margarites village for pottery and local beaches the other side of Rethymno. There are very good supermarkets locally (we avoided Lidl after 2 visits) and a wonderful bakery opposite the BP petrol station. If you are looking for a private holiday location, in a well equipped and spotlessly clean villa with a private pool then this one is hard to beat.

I was born and raised in Rethymno, a picturesque town on the north coast of Crete. At Athens University I studied ancient Greek philosophy, a fascinating subject, but which I never used in my professional life. I was employed by a leading Greek bank for twenty four years, the last six as a branch manager.
In 2016, i made the decision to leave my career as a Bank employee. It was a decision that changed my whole life. I renovated the ruined farmhouse of my Family and i begun to work in Tourism. This job was meant to be a blessing for me.
In these 10 years i've been involved in tourism, l have met people from a variety of countries and cultures. I keep in touch with many of them while with some i keep a close friendship.
As I am born and raised in the Island of Crete, i am able to give my guests all the needed recommedation for wonderful and umforgettable holidays.

I myself love travelling abroad. I have often been to many countries. Travelling is enormously educational, as it gives you the opportunity to get to know the tradition and cuisines of different countries, as well as visiting important museums and art galleries.
I also enjoy cooking. I invariably use organic products when cooking for my family.
I am a great admirer of the Greek poet Cavafy! My favourite poems are The City and the First Step!
Animals are a great weakness of mine. I have a 13-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Romeo, because of whom I became a vegetarian.
I speak English very well.

I didn't choose this area. In fact the area has chosen me. The Olive Grove where the Cottage is located, belonged to my ancestors for many many years.
It's an ideal location as it offers privacy and seclusion while in walking distance one can find tavernas, cafes, shops, supermarkets etc..
The Town of Rethymnon (30.000 permanent inhabitants) is just 7 kilometers away (8 min drive) and the closest Sandy Beach is just 1 kl away (2-3 min drive).
In addition the south Coast of the Island with its amazing beaches and the crystal clear waters is only 40 min drive.

Well, that's an easy question. Lily's Cottage (as well as Lily's villa Lemonia, my brand new villa) are unique because they are not just luxury Rental homes. They enclose my soul and my love. One can feel it the moment he enters the green, iron-made, gate.
Every single thing in the Cottage is chosen with much caring.
I won't say more.
