Uzès is a small but exceptional southern France town with a much larger reputation. Its wonderful Medieval and Renaissance buildings and architecture, along with its thriving cultural activities, and renowned weekly markets (Wednesdays and Saturdays) have contributed to its fame. It has won awards as one of the most welcoming towns in the world, as having one of the best markets in France, and also for having the best bread. The town has attracted many artists and artisans, as well as up and coming chefs, as the numerous excellent restaurants attests.

**Getting Around**
Numerous attractive villages are in the surroundings of Uzès, and walks or bike rides or drives through the many vineyards to these ancient villages are very appealing. The long history of the area is perhaps best exemplified by the nearby Pont du Gard, arguably the best-preserved Roman Aqueduct anywhere, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Further afield lie all of the glorious attractions of Provence and the Languedoc. The historic city of Nîmes, with its remarkable Roman Arena and the Maison Carrée Roman temple, and lovely fountain gardens, only 25 minutes away. Avignon the City of the Popes on the River Rhone is 40 minutes away. Within an hour's drive lie ancient Arles, lovely St. Remy, dramatic Les Baux, the lovely, Camargue, thriving Montpellier, while a bit further offers Aix, Cassis, Marseille, and the Luberon.
