Information about Douglas Lake
Set against the backdrop of the foothills of the Smoky Mountain, Douglas Lake is a popular recreation for all types of vacationers. The dam that controls the reservoir was built in 1942, stretches 202 feet high and 1,705 feet across the French Broad River. Douglas Lake provides 513 miles of shoreline and 28,420 acres of water surface for recreation activities. In a year with normal rainfall, the water level in Douglas Reservoir varies about 44 feet from summer to winter. Although most of the shoreline along the 43 mile-long lake is private. Amenities include restrooms with showers, picnic areas with tables, a boat ramp and a swimming beach.
Birdwatching: From late July to early October, birdwatchers will witness the fall migration of shore birds, wading birds, and other waterfowl that flock to Douglas Lake. The birds rest and feed on the muddy shoreline and in areas of shallow water exposed as the level of the reservoir is lowered to winter flood control levels.
Fishing: Nourished by three rivers, Douglas Lake has become the premier crappie lake in East Tennessee. Other good fishing includes: white bass, sauger, black crappie, striped bass, spotted bass, walleye, blue cat, flat head catfish, channel catfish, red horse, red breast sunfish and bluegill. Fishing is a year round sport at Douglas although spring and fall are the preferred seasons. From November to May, the wide shallow embayment, fertile creek hollows and stump beds, attract the crappie in huge numbers during the spring spawning season making crappie fishing excellent! Spring is the best time for bass fishing but you’ll find there’s good stock year-round.
Trails: If you want to add a hiking adventure to your time at the lake, the trailhead to the Trotter Bluff Small Wild Area is adjacent to the Douglas Dam Headwater Campground. Hike the almost 2 miles of trail that winds through 30 acres of hardwood forest and limestone sinkholes to an overlook of the lake’s tailwaters. Springtime hikes are enhanced with colorful wildflowers that dot the landscape. The Dandridge Partnership Trail is a 1.2 mile out-and back that winds through wooded terrain.
**Douglas Lake is a seasonal lake regulated by the TVA. There will always be water in the main channel however, during certain times of the year there will not be a lot of water at our shoreline. The TVA starts to fill the lake over Memorial Day and it is usually full by the end of May.. The TVA then starts to empty the lake after Labor Day and by the end of September, there is not a lot of water at our shoreline but there is still water in the main channel and you can drop your boat at one of the marinas on the main channel.

We had a great time and we would recommend this place to anybody Thanks for allowing us to stay here
Mountain Memories was a great cabin it was clean and cozy, it had a pool table, foosball table and a air hockey table my kids enjoyed it so much. There was plenty of places to sleep and extra covers I would recommend this cabin to anybody there was 7 of us and we had a great experience! Thanks for having us in your cabin and we wanted to let you know we loved it and hope to visit again next year!! The Vaughn's
Home away from home
It's the perfect place to get away from it all yet close enough to visit the nearby attractions. The separate bedrooms and bathrooms made it easy for our family of four to get ready in the mornings for the fun filled days while returning to the cabin away from it all. The game room upstairs is a nice addition. We did not use the kitchen but it is fully stocked including a Keurig coffee maker for hot chocolates at night and coffee in the mornings. The rustic decor makes this place feel warm and cozy although I would suggest a dresser in each bedroom for extra clothing storage. We will definitely be back. Thank you for the memories
Less then impressed
Let me just start by saying yes it’s clean BUT You have to bring your own towels FYI we were not told till after we booked the cabin. If you plug in the air hockey table it will flip a breaker so then you have to call the maintenance man who will tell you that it might just be a breaker but could not tell us where the box was but that’s fine we found it. The reason we knew it flipped the breaker is because our bathrooms had no power. Oh and the maintenance man stated he/they was over an hour away. Then the master toilet stopped working and they could not find someone to come out and fix it so we only had one toilet!!!
Thank you for the review, there are a few things i feel the need to discuss, we were never notified that the game system was tripping the breaker by you. The only call we got from you was about the toilet and I called you back and explained it to you that this was on a Sunday and I had left messages with two different plumbers and was waiting on a call back and with it being on Sunday not sure if anyone would call back. I also explained to you that the water pressure was low in that bathroom and just to hold the handle down until it flushed. That was the issue because plumber went there on Monday and that was the issue. We will check the air hockey and see if it is flipping the breaker and try to resolve it, we have had guests since your visit and there have been no comments about the breaker or the toilet..
We do not advertise that we supply towels or wash cloths, in fact under bathroom details it is advised that guests provide them on this site and, we have that in our rental agreement just in case a guests didn't see that when they reserved the cabin. we do find that most of the time guests over look this and we don't want them to arrive and not have those items.
Weekend Getaway with the family
Mountain Memories is an awesome cabin. Beautifully decorated, clean and a true mountain cabin experience. Grandsons(and Nana) enjoyed pool table, air hockey table and foos ball table. Had a rainy day or two but still had plenty to stay entertained at the cabin. We hope to stay again in the future.
Beautiful place and very clean!!
