As we made our way through the meandering lanes of the typically Galician village of Mosende and arrived at the entrance of Casa de Descanso it was hard to imagine what lay behind the high walls and hedges of its boundary. When the owner opened the gate and welcomed us in, we were therefore delighted to find ourselves in an enclosed garden with a charming pool and outdoor living area that immediately tempted us with the promise of relaxing days and an al fresco lifestyle.
Behind the thick stone walls of its traditional façade a refreshingly contemporary interior provides a smart and up-to-the-moment look for a cottage that for many years was the owner’s family home. Light coloured furnishings and crisp white walls contrast pleasingly with areas of exposed stone whilst sloping ceilings add character and charm to the first-floor rooms.

Via an inviting covered terrace of soft furnishings, this charming interior is connected to the outside area where the owner’s attention to detail has ensured that a pleasing range of facilities is available for outdoor living. Within easy reach of the barbecue is an additional kitchen, on a separate patio a table and chairs sit under a pergola for outdoor dining, and table tennis tournaments can be played in the shade of a covered terrace.

Its location in the typical village of Mosende makes Casa de Descanso an appealing option for guests wishing to experience local country life in this picturesque corner of Galicia. Within just 1.3km of the house is a restaurant serving regional dishes, the nearest supermarket is just a short distance further and for trips out to the coast the sheltered sandy beaches and pretty fishing villages that fringe the region’s southern coastline can be reached within 25 minutes.
