About the host
Hosted by John Zapantis
At the heart of Firostefani’s historic Catholic quarter, stands D’ Aniel Mansion—a villa that carries within its walls the elegance and heritage of Santorini island.
The history of the house begins long before its present form. Originally built in the beginning of the 18th century, the property has been carefully restored by its owners, the Delenda family.
Inspired by the noble architecture of the Catholic quarter, with characteristic arches and warm hues of red and golden ochre, the house serves as a gentle reminder of its unique heritage.
More than an architectural gem, D’ Aniel Mansion is a place rich in family history, where every corner holds a story shaped by treasured memories, meaningful travels, and a love for art
The Delenda family, of Spanish-Catalan origin, settled in Santorini in the 16th century. As prominent people within the Catholic community, members of the family served as representatives of several European countries, such as Great Britain, Austria, France and Germany, while also hosting royalty, diplomats, archaeologists, and scholars. Among their distinguished guests were Wilhelm II, the Crown Prince of Prussia and Emperor of Germany; Baron Hiller von Gaertringen, the first excavator of Ancient Thera; and King Otto of Greece with Queen Amalia, who visited in 1853.
In recent years, the mansion has been rebuilt by Ieronymos and Lia Delenda, embracing modern aesthetics, while remaining deeply rooted in its cultural legacy. A reflection of that heritage is captured in the name of the mansion itself, D’ Aniel: a union of initials from the names of its current members: D’ (Delenda), A (Alexandra), N (Nikos), I (Ioulia), and EL (Ellie).
Today, D’ Aniel Mansion welcomes its guests into a world of quiet luxury, where panoramic views meet thoughtful hospitality.
