Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a very nice stay at Russel's house. My wife and I got married the weekend prior, and stayed here as a weekend mountain getaway prior to our full honeymoon in the fall. It was exactly what we needed. A rustic getaway in a quiet setting surrounded by wildnerness. While staying there, we took a long hike in nearby Linn Run State park and found a bunch of wild leaks, which we used to make Potato Leek soup in the fully equipped kitchen. It certainly made us want to have our own mountain getaway.

Great Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Really enjoyed our stay. Appreciated having linens, wood, etc available for us. Came on a freezing cold night and had issue with pipes freezing and owners responded quickly and actually upgraded us to a nearby cabin. Loved time in hot tub on cold night. Very good communication and dealt with situation beyond our expectations. Thanks! Would definitely rent again.

Adequate but badly in need of maintenance, repairs, and cleaning

  • 2 of 5

We stayed at this cabin over a rainy weekend in September, and were immediately struck by the bad odor throughout the house - the smell was of stale cigarette smoke and likely multiple other odors that had mingled during some period of time that the house had been vacant and shut. Though the facilities were adequate and relatively clean, the hot tub functioning, and the area spacious (3 rooms and 4 queen beds), the house appeared poorly maintained, carpets worn and stained, furniture including beds appearing old and cheap, and the bed comforters, linens, and towels frayed and very worn. The water supply is heavily mineralized, leaving rust stains and and an iron/sulfuric odor to everything. For the money we were charged, this was not a good value. We highly recommend for guests looking to stay in this cabin that they are aware that smokers do also stay there, the tap water undrinkable, and that guests are expected to sweep and vacuum prior to check out. Given that we had to air the cabin out and disinfect counters and furniture in order to stay the night in light of a family member with asthma who is extremely sensitive to cigarette smoke, our family will definitely not be booking this cabin again. This is unfortunate given the beautiful surroundings of the Laurel Highlands and the picturesque woods in which the cabin is situated.

This was a perfect spot for a quiet getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This little cottage was well appointed and very clean. It was not hard to get to and was far enough from the "crowd" to be a perfect relaxation spot. The first impression was small and cozy, but there was actually more space inside than the first glimpse revealed. There was an inviting living/ kitchen area with a wonderful fireplace, and three bedrooms, but the two decks and fire pit area were the topper for us. We were able to sit on a comfortable chair and enjoy the birds and wildlife from a great vantage point. It was a cooler couple of days when we were there, and the roomy hot tub on the deck was very nice to look at, but was unfortunately in a state of disrepair when we arrived. I called Mr. Reed and left a message about it, and there was a man there the next evening to start repairs on it. I hope that the next guests were able to enjoy that amenity. We chose to eat at the nearby restaurants while there (Oakhurst Tea Room had a buffet that was tasty and very reasonably priced and only about 12 minutes travel time) and did not use any of the available appliances. There were also several televisions with DVD players and even some DVDs! We would definitely stay there again, as it is an easy drive and a nice getaway for us. We plan to make arrangements again for the fall. I would definitely recommend this rental to anyone who wants to break away from the hustle and bustle to sit back and hear the birds sing.

We really enjoyed the cabin. Everything was there and we didn't have to bring much which was nice. It was close to the ski resort which was also convenient. The only

thing that was an issue was a mouse sighting in the middle bedroom.

We would most likely return again in the future.
