The Gate House
Summary:
Located in the picturesque village of Apethorpe, The Gate House is a characterful 2-bedroom home offering a seamless blend of comfort and charm. Tucked away behind private gates with an enclosed garden and off-road parking, this thoughtfully designed home invites slow mornings, scenic strolls and peaceful evenings. With elegant interiors, modern amenities and historic surroundings, The Gate House is your perfect rural retreat.
The Space:
The Gate House welcomes you with warmth and quiet charm. A private driveway with space for three cars winds to the front, where a pathway leads to the entrance and a peaceful, enclosed garden — a sun-drenched spot perfect for morning coffee or relaxing afternoons.
Step inside to a light-filled lounge where soft textiles and a neutral palette create a soothing atmosphere. A wood-burning stove anchors the space, inviting cosy evenings after countryside walks.
Just off the living area, the serene master bedroom features a super-king-sized bed and a sleek en-suite shower room — offering privacy and comfort in equal measure. Further along the hall, a second double bedroom is styled with gentle tones and thoughtful detail, while the main bathroom includes a contemporary walk-in shower, both elegant and practical.
At the far end of the home, a bright kitchen-diner with garden views and space to gather provides a welcoming setting for shared meals and quiet moments alike. Fully equipped for your stay — including a Nespresso coffee machine for slow mornings — the kitchen blends style with functionality. Whether you're preparing breakfast before a day of exploring or enjoying wine and conversation into the evening, this space invites connection and ease.
Enhance your stay with our bespoke guest concierge service, offering thoughtfully curated experiences from private dining and unique local adventures to beautiful flowers, celebratory balloons and indulgent hampers. Please contact the We Stay team for more information.
The Neighborhood:
The village of Apethorpe is a small, beautiful conservation village, designated to protect its historic and architectural character. Many of its honey-hued limestone cottages and houses are Grade II Listed, while the medieval church holds a prestigious Grade I listing. Surrounded by winding lanes and rolling farmland, the village is threaded with inviting footpaths. Just a short stroll from the Gate House lies the charming King’s Head pub, offering a warm welcome and delicious seasonal dishes.
Nearby activities include scenic walking and cycling routes, water sports, bird-watching, off-road and mountain biking, a dry ski slope, and clay pigeon shooting. It’s also a favourite spot for cyclists, with peaceful country lanes and scenic routes right on the doorstep.
For day trips, the exquisite market town of Stamford and the grand Burghley House lie just 10 miles away, while the breathtaking Rutland Water — a haven for wildlife, walking, cycling, and water sports — is only 11 miles from the village. Fineshade Wood, perfect for woodland walks and nature trails, is also close by.
