Sobre esta propriedade
The Writers Den - A private, soulful retreat
About this space
The Writer’s Den is a historic Highland hideaway, once the original kitchen of the 18th-century main house. Full of character and vintage charm, it’s been lovingly transformed into a private, soulful retreat with a California king bed, handcrafted details, and a charming kitchen. Surrounded by nature and rich with history, it’s a perfect space for rest, reflection, and creative escape.
The space
Welcome to the Hill of the Sun
You’ve arrived at Knock Grena—from the Gaelic Cnoc Gréine, meaning “Hill of the Sun.” This land has been a place of light and quiet power for centuries, and it still is.
The Writer’s Den once served as the old kitchen for the estate’s big house, its thick stone walls holding warmth from the hearth and stories from long ago. Now transformed, it’s a space for deep rest, inspiration, and creative flow. Writers and thinkers have always sought solitude to listen to the whisper beneath the noise…and this is that kind of place.
Let the stillness guide you. Let the sun spark your ideas. Let the hill hold you while you dream.
Guest access
Step through the old stone threshold and into a world of quiet wonder.
Guests have full, private access to the Writer’s Den—a sanctuary of spaces designed to stir the senses and soothe the soul.
Wander between rooms that each hold their own magic: a whimsical kitchenette with vintage flair, perfect for crafting simple meals or midnight tea; a cozy living area where a piano waits to be played, stories to be shared, and a wood-burning stove offers flickering warmth and quiet comfort; a dining table for candlelit suppers or morning musings; and a writing room where thoughts can stretch and settle like mist over the hills.
The bedroom offers a California king bed wrapped in comfort and character, and the ensuite shower room provides everything you need for a peaceful, unhurried stay.
There is no television here—by design.
Instead, the space invites you to tune into the rustle of leaves, the crackle of the fire, the rhythm of your own thoughts. It’s a place to disconnect from screens and reconnect with yourself.
This is your retreat. Your rhythm, your haven.
Other things to note
Knock Grena is a place of age and atmosphere.
The Writers Den, with its thick stone walls and centuries-old bones, carries the subtle scent of history—a quiet reminder of the lives and stories that have passed through.
It’s part of the charm of staying in a building that has stood for generations. While we keep the space clean and cared for, the natural character of the old stone and timber may greet you with a gentle, earthy aroma—especially on damp Highland days.
If you love places with soul, you’ll feel right at home.
