Bamburgh has a splendid castle situated on a rocky outcrop overlooking the village and the sea. It was restored in the late 19th century by Lord Armstrong and is still the home of his descendants. Bamburgh was also the home of the Victorian heroine Grace Darling and there is a museum nearby dedicated to her memory. Seahouses is 3 miles, from here there are daily boat trips to the Farne Islands to view the sea birds and grey seal colonies. Holy Island is a short drive and the nature reserve of Budle Bay is approximately 1 mile. There is a magnificent sandy beach within walking distance and also an excellent golf course.
