Town: Lligwy is a peaceful rural hamlet resting on the north‑east coast of Anglesey, close to Moelfre and Benllech. The area is best known for its open farmland, far‑reaching sea views and layered archaeological landscape, and offers a distinctive selection of attractions including Traeth Lligwy, a wide sandy beach edged by dunes and limestone outcrops, alongside the remarkable Lligwy archaeological sites, where Neolithic, Roman and medieval remains sit within a compact area of countryside. Dining options are just a short drive away at The Boathouse and The Ship Inn in Red Wharf Bay, both set along the shoreline with far‑reaching coastal views; The Boathouse is known for its seafood‑led menus and locally sourced produce, while The Ship Inn offers classic pub dining with popular seafood dishes alongside Welsh favourites. For everyday essentials, you can visit Co‑op Food in Benllech, the Mill Garage petrol station, or Penysarn General Store and Post Office. History and heritage are central to the character of Lligwy. Din Lligwy, one of the best‑preserved Romano‑British settlements in Wales, offers a fascinating glimpse into life on Anglesey nearly two thousand years ago, while nearby Capel Lligwy, a roofless 12th‑century chapel, sits quietly within rolling fields, its weathered stonework lending a strong sense of continuity with the past. Completing the trio is the Lligwy Burial Chamber, a striking Neolithic monument crowned by a vast capstone, making this small corner of the island unusually rich in ancient sites spanning several millennia. The surrounding landscape is ideal for unhurried outdoor exploration, with footpaths threading through farmland and leading towards the coast, where they link into the Anglesey Coastal Path. Walks here take in wide skies, grazing pastures and expansive views across the Irish Sea, while Traeth Lligwy provides ample space for beach walks, rock‑pooling and invigorating sea air, all within easy reach of the hamlet. A short drive away is Moelfre, home to the RNLI Seawatch Centre and Moelfre Beach, where its maritime heritage, dramatic shipwreck history and scenic coastal paths make it a compelling place to explore. Also within easy reach is Beaumaris, with its UNESCO‑listed Beaumaris Castle and historic seafront, a characterful town that combines impressive medieval architecture with boat trips, independent shops and relaxed waterside walks, making it well worth a visit.
