About Debra Malone
Born and raised near Galena, I moved to Chicago, but then rediscovered the beauty of Galena later in life. Eventually I made my permanent home there. I love outdoor sports and found a gem of a playground for outdoor sports in the greater Galena area. Because of its beautiful rolling terrain and the river that runs through it, Galena is a great destination to bike, paddle, run, ski and hike. I own the outdoor rental shop, right next door to my vacation rental. Therefore, I'm able to conveniently share my knowledge, maps of the area, resources & equipment, as well my own outdoor experiences with others. I hope you will enjoy outdoors in Galena as much as I do.

Why Debra Malone chose Galena
Newly remodeled and close walk to downtown shops, bike path, boat landing. The bonus is gorgeous river view, as the river is located just across the street.

Good location, Clean and Well Kept
The price was reasonable and the location was great (and if that's key for you, this is your spot), it was - on balance - just average. What did we like? The beds were comfortable; ample and comfortable linens, etc. The place was very clean and appeared very well kept. The internet connection worked great. Also, the owner was pretty responsive when we needed questions answered. (But we were never able to figure out how to use the satellite TV for some sporting events we were hoping to watch and didn't want to keep bothering the owner -- Recommend they put better TV instructions in the unite).
What we didn't care for: parking is available only on the street and you can't keep cars on street all night every night of the week (so depends when you're going to be there ... but check that). The kitchen was really too small for a group our size (we had 8 women). Not much counter space (although there is an island). We didn't do much cooking, but if we had planned to do so, that kitchen could have been a real challenge! The downstairs bathroom is nice, but the upstairs bathroom is small (consistent with the age of the house). Because the house is older, some of the doors tend to be really creaky at night. But the biggest issue for us was that the "family room" just didn't have enough seating for a group our size -- one couch and two chairs (while comfy) just weren't enough. If the weather had been nice, we may have been able to enjoy the outdoor space, which seemed really nice, but it was too cold/rainy for us to enjoy anything outdoors. In addition to not having much room in the family room, there was no common dining area or large table for us all to sit around together at once. That might have been nice to have had a large table where we could all be seated.
So, in conclusion, so great things to like about this ... and a few that we found not as great! But can't beat the location if you want to be close to downtown Galena.
Located very near the Galena boat landing and Galena river trail for access to kayaking and biking. It is also nearby several hiking trails.
