Paradise in Port St. Joe
I can't say enough about how much my husband and I LOVE this cottage! The bay view from the house is stunning. The location on a quiet street makes this place special. There was more traffic of people riding bikes than actual vehicles. We loved that we could pull our car around back into the carport. We were thankful for the beach chairs and umbrella. That saved us some money. The house was stocked with plenty of soft, fresh smelling towels. Little things like that impress me. We cooked breakfast each day, and had plenty of cookware, bowls, glasses, etc. The private boardwalk was nice. The beach was VERY private. We saw only 2 families during our stay. They were at least 100 yards away. If you want a quiet, peaceful, convenient beach experience, you have found your place. We will definitely book again.
Bob and I are ecstatic that y’all enjoyed your greatly-deserved getaway...thank you for sharing your happy experiences!
During these challenging times, it is wonderful to have an escape, and we are so thankful that the cottage and beach provided some peaceful and quiet days for you. Again, thank you for taking the time to offer your dear review—Bob and I cannot wait to welcome you back!!
We very much enjoyed this cottage for our honeymoon. It was quiet, the area was great, and the owners provided everything we could ever need. We will be back!
Thank you, Hannah!
Bob and I send congratulations and best wishes for much happiness. Y’all were a joy to work with, and we cannot wait to welcome you back again!!
Thank you, Ricky. Bob and I and I are so happy to hear that your getaway was a success—we deeply appreciate your feedback!!
Perfect For Two
This is an excellent location. The area is quiet with lots of walkers and bicyclists making up the traffic going by the house as the street is a dead end and on a walking trail. It was so nice to be able to walk to the beach and to be the only ones on it - especially since the public beach areas were closed. The house itself had all of the amenities we needed. Port St. Joe has a nice downtown without any high rise developments unlike a lot of the Florida Panhandle. Would recommend this spot for those who like to sit on a screened porch and watch the sunsets and for those who enjoy a relaxing vacation.
Bob and I are so pleased that you had a wonderful stay at Alsobrook Cottage, and that you were able to have your getaway before Florida essentially closed its doors.
Thank you for your wonderful review—you
described all of the aspects of the cottage and its location that Bob and I were immediately attracted to, when we were cottage hunting.
We send prayers and well wishes to you and your family in these uncertain times—take care,
This is a charming, well-equipped cottage with an excellent location and attentive owners. The 4 for cleanliness was because the floors seemed pretty dusty under chairs etc - not a very big deal really. The weather could have co-operated a little better but it was a wonderful step up from northern Illinois.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review—Bob and I are very grateful for all of your observations and comments!
The floors should never be dusty, and we have addressed this with our property manager and his cleaning crew. The cottage has been “deep cleaned” again, and the rugs and upholstery steam-cleaned, as well. We are so sorry about your experience, and hope that we will be able to welcome you back in the future.
Mary and Bob Herdegen have family in the area and have been vacationing in nearby Mexico Beach for over 25 years. While this property is new to them, they purchased it from a family who had it in their family since 1938. The new owners hope to honor and maintain the tradition established the family and provide the same wonderful experience for their guests as did the previous owner.

Why Owner chose Port St. Joe
When people visit Port St. Joe, they seem to leave a part of their heart is, quite simply, a very special part of the world. Maybe it is the authenticity of the town. Maybe the Southern hospitality. Maybe the amazing shrimp, oysters, and fresh-caught fish. The historic Cape San Blas Lighthouse was "rescued" from imminent loss along the Gulf and now stands proud and protected in the City limits along St. Joe Bay. A full-moon climb will never be forgotten.
What makes this House unique
Some favorite things to do are to walk the beach, which takes an entirely different feel at different times of the day. At night, take a flashlight on the beach and see thousands or thousands of "ghost" crabs scurrying around the sand; it looks like a far-away planet! Sit on the porch and watch the dolphins swim by. The seafood is amazing, and you can buy shrimp and oysters that were taken out of the water the night before. If you think you do not like oysters, you have never tried an Apalachicola oyster! Sleep with the windows open to hear the din of insect noises and to watch the fireflies from the bedroom window. The board walk to WindMark Beach Village Center is beautifully landscaped, and the Village Center has some amenities worth exploring. If you are inclined to pursue other outdoor adventures, less than 30 minutes away you can enjoy Off the Map Expeditions kayak tour of the Dead Lakes in Wewahitchka and the Estuary Tour of the Apalachicola River. Both are a must-see!
