Overview

About the property

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 1.5 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

If you are looking for an authentic Plum Island beach house experience, this is the cottage for you. Relax on one of the rocking chairs on the 4 season enclosed porch and enjoy ocean breezes and the quiet buzz of island life. 'The West Wind' is a very cute, very clean, totally renovated vintage cottage with many charming features retained, but with all the conveniences for today's living. It is 60 seconds' walk from a choice of beautiful beaches including one which is great for younger children, at the more peaceful lighthouse end of the Island on Northern Boulevard. The cottage will suit families or small groups of mature adults. Sleeps 4-6. Living room, dining room, completely new kitchen with new appliances and brand new shower room, laundry/half bath. 3 bedrooms - very comfortable white iron queen bed in first, twin beds in second and full bed in third - all on second floor. Original, refinished heart of pine wood floors throughout. Newer central air conditioning (not window conditioners), new windows, central heating and new insulation will keep you comfortable. Nice partial ocean and partial basin views from upper floor. A well behaved and supervised dog or two are welcome!

About Lesley and Michael Bielby

We are a family of 5 who live in nearby Newbury.

Lesley and Michael Bielby purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Lesley and Michael Bielby chose Plum Island

We fell in love with the light on Plum Island. it is quite unique and one of the last coastal towns in the area that is still relatively authentic. We wanted an original house with character to capture the true essence of PI and we found it with the West Wind. We renovated it this winter - all new shingles, windows and roof as well as a new kitchen, shower room and wc/laundry!

What makes this cottage unique

The porch is a key benefit. It has also been completely renovated with many windows with screens, for nice ocean breezes. You can either relax on the wider part with friends or while away the time on a rocking chair at the front section. The house is also one of the last remaining original cottages. It is almost 100 years old and we have restored it to retain much of it's character while making it suitable for modern day living.

Cozy and comfortable cottage with amazing porch!

  • 4 of 5

This was a great place to vacation with 3 adults, 2 small children and 1 large dog! The beaches are wonderful and a short walk away from the house. The house was neat and clean and had everything we needed. The kitchen is well equipped though if you plan on cooking lobsters bring your own stock pot. Although the bedrooms are small the beds are comfortable and we were able to fit a pack and play with some minimal shifting of furniture. The porch is a wonderful place to enjoy the sea breeze with lots of windows. We spent a lot of time relaxing on the porch while the kids took advantage of having a large play space. The only one thing we were really missing was an outdoor seating area. There is no patio or deck and only a small table that fits four people in the back of the yard on beach grass. We ended up enjoying most of our meals sitting on the porch. Overall we would recommend the cottage and had a great week thanks to wonderful hosts!

Easy Peasy!!

  • 5 of 5

We are pretty easy going, self sufficient folks, this owner took care of every need, was in good contact when needed, made for a very stress-less time on the beach. Lovely clean accommodations, will likely contact him again for the next trip in the area. THANKS SO MUCH!

great cottage

  • 5 of 5

We (couple and 2 dogs) stayed at this cottage for a week in August and were pleased with the condition and comfort of the house and accessibility to the beaches (the river beach is very close, the Atlantic beach about 10 min. walk). The porch is really nice because the rocking chairs are comfortable, there's a great breeze, and the screens keep the bugs out.

One great thing about the house was there are really great windows. I know this sounds crazy but it's really important to me that I could either open the windows for a breeze or we could turn on the A/C. This made us very comfortable; it' so nice to have that choice.

Everything in the house was easy to keep clean; the owners obviously put some thought into how to keep the house looking nice

The owners are very professional and very nice.

Plum Island is very quiet and we really enjoyed that. There are not a lot of restaurants or anything like that - - you drive to Newburyport, mostly, or cook in. We were glad the kitchen and dining room set up made it easy to just stay in and cook a nice meal. We appreciated the new dishwasher and washer/dryer.

As for tips for nearby activities, restaurants: Mad Martha's hands down the best meal (Th night, only) and greatest breakfast place around. We had a blast on the whale watch out of Newburyport. The Market Basket is about 10 minutes away - good place to stock up on groceries and they will steam your lobsters for you so you don't get the smell/mess in the house.

Great Vacation Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here with our two young kids, ages 3 and 1. The house is very nice. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. It has a beautiful porch which was great for the kids to play on and equally nice for sitting out in the evening. The home has air conditioning, which was a must because it was so hot during our stay. The home is a short walk to the beach and a light house!

I think we'll be returning there for another vacation.

Plum Island is a barrier island on the North Shore close to the NH and ME borders. The nearest town is minutes away - stunningly beautiful Newburyport - which is on the Merrimac River. It has a wealth of shops, restaurants and historic sites to visit and is close to Water Parks, zoos and farms to visit for fruit picking etc. Plum Island is a peaceful place with all the necessary amenities and lovely white sandy beaches, and a protected wildlife sanctuary.
