Town: The town of Burnham-on-Sea is conveniently situated just minutes from the M5; it's an ideal touring base from which to explore the beautiful Somerset countryside and its famous attractions. It has something for everyone, including seven miles of unspoilt sandy beaches, sailing, fishing and donkey rides, a theatre, cinema, swimming pool and sports academy, gardens, bi-annual food and drink festival, live music, Guy Fawkes carnival, and a 36 hole championship golf course. The famous Cheddar Caves and Gorge, with amazing clifftop walks, are within easy reach, as are historic Wells, England's smallest city with its beautiful cathedral, Glastonbury, with its mystical connections to King Arthur is central to the Avalon marshes, one of the largest lowland wetlands in the UK, a complex landscape teeming with wildlife. In winter the star attractions are the massive murmurations of starlings and huge flocks of wildfowl. Beautiful scenery and a rich human history make this a must-visit area. Also close by of interest to nature lovers are the Steart Marshes, which is managed by the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT). The traditional seaside town of Weston-super-Mare offers sandy beaches, donkeys, watersports, restaurants and shops, as well as the Playhouse Theatre and Winter Gardens.
